In today's episode, I sit down with Dr. Mila Ioussifova and Roger Kennedy to discuss the clinical and business impacts of cryopreserved amniotic membranes in practice, especially with patients with dry eye. Key Takeaways:The easiest way to bring amniotic membranes into your practice are by just doing it. Learn about application tools, patient education, billing and coding from the companies themselves and just go for it.Amniotic membranes aren't just for train wrecks. Persistent ocular surface disease, reduced corneal sensitivity, and moderate dry eye are all great cases for amniotic membrane use.Knowing the patient's deductible status ahead of time aids in the conversation. Dr. Mila presents amniotic membranes as one of hte only treatments that are covered/ billable to insurance and it's the only regenerative approach to corneal tissue and nerves. Knowing the deductible status prevents the patient from being surprised. The wow effect matters.Don't be afraid to publicly market your dry eye and amniotic membrane treatments to patients on your website and patient communication. Have a word of mouth strategy and execute it.Communicate the service and value of your products to other specialists in the area treating patients with conditions that cause dry eye. What Mila and Roger are reading:Think Again by Adam GrantShift Your Brilliance by Simon BaileyBecoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza** Don't miss out on an extra $5 rebate for all commercial VSP Eye Exams extended through December 31, 2024. Today on Tipp FM's evening news The 5.45: At this month's meeting of the Tipp-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District, Councillor Roger Kennedy brought forward a motion for a walkway on a route frequently used by Ukrainian refugees who are being housed at Dundrum House. The current pathway, he says, isn't sufficient and is potentially dangerous for those who wish to travel to Dundrum village by foot from the location. The motion was passed, and an application to the Integration Minister will be prepared for a walkway from Dundrum House to the village after being ineligible for the Community Application Grants. Jody Coffey spoke with Cllr. Kennedy in more detail after the meeting, starting by asking exactly how many Ukrainians reside at Dundrum House:
So often we hear that poor internet connection - or lack of broadband infrastructure is limiting people in the county from either improving or progressing their business, from working at home, or even just connecting with people in a personal capacity. While NBI continue to carry out their work under the National Broadband Plan, SIRO a Broadband Network Operator is also targeting areas across Tipperary to expand and bring fibre broadband to more residents. It was announced today that the company will now move into three other towns locally. This has been warmly welcomed by Tipperary County Council with the Cathaoirelach commenting that 'As the digital economy grows, we must ensure that its opportunities and benefits are felt in every town, village and outlying rural area in our county. Roger Kennedy says 'We need a digital infrastructure that supports business transformation and connects communities'. This was echoed by Joe McGrath the CEO of the local authority who feels this can secure sustainable economic growth and prosperity into the future for Tipp. To get more information and an idea of the numbers to be connected Sheila Naughton spoke to Siro's Director of Corporate Affairs Amanda Glancy:
"I feel as a psychoanalyst one has to respond to the world. We can't just simply remain in our consulting rooms although that has always been vitally important for my identity and thinking. We can't turn a blind eye to what is going on in the world. There are a lot of awful things going on - a lot of genocides, a lot of similar kinds of processes that were seen in the Holocaust, that were seen in slavery, and they are continuing. We need to stand up, we need to say what's going on, we need to tell people ‘Look, these are the elements.' In America they came close to disaster with what happened with the capitol riots. We came close with populous movements here, but luckily our democratic structures have been fairly resilient. We have been able to stand up, with all this skepticism one may have, to some of these destructive forces. But other places are not so able to. It was a sense of I can't simply keep quiet.” Episode Description: We begin with Roger's definition of evil, which references the destruction of the subjectivity of the 'other'. We consider the mutual influences of individual psychology and group forces that permit and encourage the degradation and annihilation of the scapegoated. The two examples that he addresses in his book are the Holocaust and British-American Slavery, acknowledging the similarities and differences between them. Roger considers the capacity to provide a "home for otherness" as a vital alternative to evil. We discuss the town of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon in France as an example of those who collectively provided such a home for Jews in World War II. We conclude with his sharing his personal and family story with the Holocaust, which informs his life's work as well as the origin of his last name. Our Guest: Dr. Roger Kennedy is a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist and an adult psychoanalyst. He was an NHS consultant in charge of the Family Unit at the Cassel Hospital for nearly thirty years before going into private practice twelve years ago. He was chair of the Child and Family Practice in Bloomsbury and is still a director there. His work includes being a training analyst and seeing adults for analysis and therapy, as well as children, families, and parents at his clinic. He is a past president of the British Psychoanalytical Society and is a frequent expert witness in the family courts. He has written fourteen books published on psychoanalysis, interdisciplinary studies, and child, family, and court work, as well as many papers. We headed to Hanalei and met with owner Roger Kennedy at Tropical Taco. This popular restaurant started in a 1964 Chevy step van parked at Pine Trees at Hanalei Bay in 1978. The first owner, Gary Zerilla, started with his grandmother's recipes for beans and salsa. Mike Williams (now riding that endless wave above) and Roger Kennedy bought the business for $5,000 and took on the legacy of this restaurant, keeping the name, the recipes and the famous Chevy van. Forty-four years and counting, they continue to attract tourists and locals with some of the freshest fish tacos I have ever tasted. All of Tropical Taco's ingredients are prepared fresh each day. All fish is caught by local North Shore fisherman. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOLLOW US ON Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wherehawaiieats/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wherehawaiieats/ #hanalei #kauai #taco #mexicanfood
A number of Councillors have been accused of being two faced hypocrites at the recent meeting of the Tipperary Cahir and Cashel municipal districts this week. The row centred on a vote around the maintaining of the 10% on the local property tax. Councillors Roger Kennedy and Tony Black spoke to Fran on Tipp Today this morning.
“There is a musicality at the core of our emotional or affective life. It really goes back to early mother-infant communications or innate musicality, or what’s called ‘communicative musicality’ – the to-and-fro of the dynamic between mother and baby as really the core, the scaffolding of our emotional life.” Description: Dr.Harvey Schwartz welcomes Dr. Roger Kennedy to today’s episode. Dr. Kennedy is a training and supervising analyst and past President of the British Psychoanalytical Society. He is also a child and adolescent psychiatrist and is now the Medical Director of the Child and Family Practice in London, which is a private multidisciplinary clinic where he and his staff work with children, families, and parents, specializing in children with complex needs. Dr. Kennedy has written 14 books and today the focus is on his latest, which is called The Power of Music: Psychoanalytic Explorations. Dr. Kennedy’s breadth of interests is remarkable. He has written on psychoanalysis and history, on tolerating strangers in intolerant times, short stories based on his work with analysands, and he has also written on psychotherapists as expert witnesses in working with people with a history of childhood abuse. In today’s conversation, Dr. Kennedy elaborates the similarities and differences in listening to music and listening to analytic material. He provides a clinical example where he enabled a patient to hear the way she sounded which became a vital part of her growing self-awareness and with that, she accessed the freedom to sound different and to tune in to more authentic aspects of herself. Key takeaways: [8:34] Dr. Kennedy explains how the musical and the psychoanalytic world inform each other. [10:45] Is listening to music a narcissistic experience for the listener? [12:57] Dr. Kennedy dives deep into the meaning of the listening experience. [14:45] When you hear what the patient has to say, you can hear the rhythms, and what lays between the lines. [16:37] Sounds bring people together. [18:14] Dr. Kennedy shares the reason why he often closes his eyes while listening to patients. [18:52] Dr. Kennedy’s listening style has changed over the years. [20:01] Dr. Kennedy describes the art of improvisation. [21:22] Dr. Kennedy shares a clinical example. [26:09] Dr. Kennedy talks about how he developed a passion for music. [31:36] The unique experience of treating musicians. [33:45] The delicate balance between destructiveness and creativeness. [34:55] Dr. Schwartz shares a paragraph from Dr. Kennedy’s writings. Greenways, blue ways, walkways, trails and tracks are popping up all over the county, presenting a great distraction to people over the lockdowns. With all things that become popular however, some issues arise, particularly when it comes to parking. The High King's loop in Cashel is no exception. Roger Kennedy, Cashel Councillor spoke to Fran on Tipp Today this week about the recent issues.
Today I discussed why music so powerful in eliciting emotions with Roger Kennedy, the author of The Power of Music: Psychoanalytic Explorations (Phoenix Publishing House, 2020) Now at The Child and Family Practice in London, Kennedy is a training analyst and past President of the British Psychoanalytical Society. This is his fourteenth book. Topics covered in this episode include: The ability of music to reward close listening because of qualities like movement and the web of interactions involved. How music can draw on and has parallels to a range of situations, like “baby talk” sounds shared by mother and child, and the sounds animals make (especially in mating rituals). Discussion of parallels between music and entering a dream state, rich with free association as opposed to a concrete, logically coherent “narrative” Dan Hill, PhD, is the author of eight books and leads Sensory Logic, Inc.
