The Argentine's comeback was reduced to a minor sub-plot by an epic game which brought five goals, a further five which were disallowed, two red cards, and a slew of VAR decisions in one of the Premier League's most frenetic ever encounters. Spurs started brilliantly and deservedly went ahead when Dejan Kulusevski's sixth minute shot deflected in off Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, before Son Heung-min had an effort narrowly ruled out for offside as the home side looked to capitalise on their early dominance. In a fevered atmosphere Chelsea had two goals of their own disallowed, one each from Raheem Sterling and Moises Caicedo ruled out for handball and offside respectively. But the latter situation still led to a Chelsea goal as a penalty was awarded for a crude challenge by Romero on compatriot Enzo Fernandez, and the Spurs defender was deservedly sent off in the aftermath. Summer signing Cole Palmer scored the resulting spot-kick to level the match before Spurs were also handicapped by what looked like a serious hamstring injury for key defender Micky van de Ven and an ankle problem for James Maddison as both players were substituted before the interval. Spurs were battling an even greater disadvantage when Destiny Udogie was sent off ten minutes after the break for an inexplicably reckless tackle on Sterling which brought a second yellow card from referee Michael Oliver. Ange Postecoglou, who also received a yellow card on the Spurs bench amid the mayhem, gambled on keeping a high line even with nine men but Chelsea finally broke their resistance with 15 minutes left, Raheem Sterling breaking clear to set up Nicolas Jackson for a simple finish. The game was far from finished, though, and Spurs came close to securing a stunning draw as Eric Dier had a superb finish ruled out for a narrow offside and Rodrigo Bentancur headed just wide after beating Chelsea's defensive line at a late free-kick. Jackson then scored twice more in stoppage time to secure a late hat-trick and render the scoreline far more comfortable than the evening had been for the visitors. THST has accused Spurs of “exploiting fans' loyalty” during a cost of living crisis. The protest will commence at 3.45pm – with kick-off at 5.30pm – and take place opposite the club's ticket office. It threatens to overshadow a new era under Postecoglou, who joined from Celtic earlier in the summer. As of next season, tickets for Category B and C matches will be raised by between £3 to £15 compared to 2022-23, while Category A fixtures, against Spurs' “Big Six” rivals and as of next season Newcastle, are now priced at £10 to £17 more. The most expensive individual ticket for an adult supporter is £103. According to THST, the increase in matchday tickets will earn the club approximately £2.5m in revenue, representing a 2.4 per cent increase from June 2022 and a 0.6 per cent increase of the club's total income. The THST hopes that the demonstration will encourage the club to fully reverse the ticket price increases, improve their communication with fans over proposed changes in the future and ensure that there will be no further rises made for the 2024-25 season. THST has accused Spurs of “exploiting fans' loyalty” during a cost of living crisis. The protest will commence at 3.45pm – with kick-off at 5.30pm – and take place opposite the club's ticket office. It threatens to overshadow a new era under Postecoglou, who joined from Celtic earlier in the summer. As of next season, tickets for Category B and C matches will be raised by between £3 to £15 compared to 2022-23, while Category A fixtures, against Spurs' “Big Six” rivals and as of next season Newcastle, are now priced at £10 to £17 more. The most expensive individual ticket for an adult supporter is £103. According to THST, the increase in matchday tickets will earn the club approximately £2.5m in revenue, representing a 2.4 per cent increase from June 2022 and a 0.6 per cent increase of the club's total income. The THST hopes that the demonstration will encourage the club to fully reverse the ticket price increases, improve their communication with fans over proposed changes in the future and ensure that there will be no further rises made for the 2024-25 season. Tottenham are on the verge of a deal with Wolfsburg to sign defender Micky Van de Ven. The deal is close to being completed although an announcement may not happen just yet. The 22-year-old has spent two seasons at the Bundesliga side, amassing 41 appearances in all competitions. Clean sheets have come on 14 of those occasions, with the Dutchman possessing the ability to play at both left and centre-back. Should they seal a deal, Spurs will be set to beat fellow Premier League opposition to his signature. Liverpool were linked with Van de Ven earlier in the summer as they also look to strengthen their back line. However, it appears that Spurs are close to completing the signing, with personal terms already agreed. Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba has also emerged as a target for the north London side. Van de Ven could join in with the pre-season action before the new campaign as Spurs face Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona in their final friendly matches. Harry Kane expects to stay at Tottenham if he is not sold before their Premier League opener at Brentford on Sunday August 13. It is understood Kane believes - out of respect for Tottenham and also the new manager Ange Postecoglou - it would be unfair for him to leave once the season has started. Other sources, however, have indicated that a potential move to Bayern Munich may still be on the agenda right up until the Transfer Deadline on September 1.
