This episode features Jeff Tobias, the saxophonist from bands such as Sunwatchers and Modern Nature, among many other projects. His recent releases include the solo album Recurring Dream and a duo sax collaboration with Patrick Shiroishi. As a quick housekeeping note, Chandra's upcoming European tour that I mention in this episode has been put on ice, but we hope to hop back across the pond as soon as it's safe enough to do so. We're back. This week, we’re featuring Jesse Locke’s interview with Jack Cooper of Modern Nature. The band’s new mini-album, Annual, is the follow up to the band’s debut, 2019’s How to Live. Inspired by the group’s time on the road in support of that album, this new one demonstrates the way live performance and improvisation has informed Cooper’s continually more expansive approach to Modern Nature.     Drifting, seasonal, and often focused on the subtle saxophone work of Jeff Tobias of Sunwatchers, the album also features percussionist Jim Wallis and Kayla Cohen of Itasca, who’s been a guest here on Transmissions as well. That talk’s available in our archives, like all our past episodes. This show is sponsored—like everything at Aquarium Drunkard—by our listeners, who support us directly via Patreon. Supporters receive access to bonus audio, notes, special mixes and other projects.

Multi-instrumentalist Jeff Tobias was raised on Long Island, spent many years in Athens GA and has been living in New York City for the past seven years. He was a member of bands Dark Meat, We Versus the Shark and Nymph. He currently plays in Sunwatchers and Reps and last year he released his first recording of solo saxophone music. Jeff is a good cat and this conversation is one of my favorites of recent memory.

DC’s Mike James and Mollie Ames discuss: Did you hear that ESPN is going to broadcast a pinball tournament this summer featuring some of the best players in the world? Twitch game! (Part 1 of the Podcast only content) Green Book is a bullshit Hollywood movie replete with more than its far share of lies and inaccuracies, and it's also exactly the kind of saccharine pandering garbage the Academy loves to celebrate every year instead of truly great cinema. Having a conversation with Mollie's butt, and congrats to Regina King for winning an Oscar (aka, the voice behind both Huey and Riley Freeman). Tristan Thompson was the single most Google'd pro athlete in the world in 2018... Seriously, fuck the Kardashians and anything and everything to do with them. What did we learn this week during the NFL's offseason? That prostitution definitely needs to be legalized. Duh. (Part 2 of the Podcast only content, begins at the 1:07:00 mark) Let Me Tell You A Story: Lachlan MacKinnon’s “I'm Going To Hell” (begins at the 1:33:00 mark) The greatest single wardrobe malfunction in sports history happened last week and it just happened to be the only thing on TV that night. And the fallout was immediate. Where prostitution is legal around the world, how its rules vary from country to country -- with a couple first hand experiences thrown in for the sake of authenticity -- (Part 3 of the Podcast only content, begins at the 2:04:00 mark) Just when you think Christian rock can't possibly suck any more than it already inherently sucks; it of course finds a way. The Kraft video will be the one video evidence the NFL actually does obtain, and using syrup to make that pancake ass taste better. (Part 4 of the Podcast only content, begins at the 2:33:00 mark) There was only one truly game changing honest revelation in Trevor Bauer's Sports Illustrated feature story (and it's a real DOOSY!), but apparently since it wasn't as purposefully salacious and headline grabbing as his "3 rules of dating" are, no one seems to care. Apparently Mike Clevinger doesn't know that humans are not the only species on the planet that possess opposable thumbs. All this and so much more on this episode of the Defend Cleveland Podcast. Enjoy~ Check out Lachlan MacKinnon’s best selling book, ‘Let Me Tell You A Story: Small Stories Of A Large Family’! Thank you to KidForce Pinball for sponsoring the podcast, 91.1-FM WRUW Cleveland for being home to the show, engineer extraordinaire Mollie Ames, and to the city that inspires us, Cleveland, Ohio. Your recommended listening for the week is the new album by Sunwatchers, "Illegal Moves", available via Trouble In Mind Records. The intro and outro to Lachlan’s segment is the song “My Summer In Traction” by the band Ohio Civil War , and it’s used with permission.
