The xx haben etwas erschaffen, was nur wenigen anderen Bands gelungen ist: ein eigenes Genre. Und dabei hat ihr besonderer Mix aus Elektronik, Indie, Dream Pop und R'n'B noch nicht mal einen Namen. Auch der Name der Band selbst dürfte den wenigsten bekannt sein, wenn sie zu „Intro“ eine Fußballmannschaft einlaufen sehen oder eine Dokumentation, die mit „Islands“ oder „Crystalised“ unterlegt ist. The xx haben uns den Soundtrack der 10er Jahre geliefert und sind wie ihre Musik doch angenehm zurückhaltend geblieben. Romy Madley-Croft und Oliver Sim haben das Grundgerüst von The xx entworfen, elektronische Musik mit Akustik-Instrumenten zu spielen. Jamie xx hat ihren Sound mit Synthies und Samples erweitert, meisterhaft in „On Hold“ mit dem berühmten Hall&Oates-Sample – einem DER Songs der Zehnerjahre.
