Darren Criss is an Emmy-winning actor, but deep down he's a musical theater nerd. Which is why he's so proud to be part of this year's Tony-nominated musical Maybe Happy Ending. "Everybody involved in [Broadway], we all work within a 10-some-odd block radius, and it is really like a campus celebration." For Criss, who plays Oliver, a robot in futuristic Seoul in love with another robot, Claire (played by Helen J. Shen), it's "nothing short of a miracle." "You kind of hope for this your whole life." After picking up 10 Tony nominations, including Criss' for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, it's clear countless others did too. "I hope it runs for many moons in other countries and in other dimensions." Part of what makes the show unique is its path to Broadway. "Every step along the way, it has been an exponential groundswell of positive response, because everything is just earnest ideas believed in by earnest people." And it's been a benchmark for diversity and Asian stories on Broadway. "I always like to say that the victory is in the conversation." For our interview today, we're kicking things off with a special performance — here's Dez Duron singing “Why Love” from the cast recording of Maybe Happy Ending. Dez is a singer and actor you might recognize from Season 3 of The Voice. Now, he's making his Broadway debut, starring alongside Darren Criss and Helen J Shen in the critically acclaimed musical Maybe Happy Ending, and was gracious enough to sit down with Les today to discuss it all. Dez plays Gil Brentley, a smooth, fictional jazz singer whose songs echo the love story at the heart of the show. Critics are raving—the production's been named “Best Theatre of 2024” by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and more. Entertainment Weekly calls Dez “a captivating stage presence,” and The Guardian dubbed him “a dashing daydream.” Let's take a listen—and then we'll sit down with Dez himself.

Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes Write Your Life Story With a Happy Ending April 24, 2025 | Episode 5079 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Are you writing your life story with a happy ending in mind? In this energizing episode, Scott shares a chance encounter with an author that sparked a powerful insight about how we approach our lives. He challenges you to think about your story and whether you're setting yourself up for the end you want. If you're feeling stuck or frustrated, this episode will help you refocus on consistent actions that create real results. Featured Story While exploring an art show in Daytona Beach, Scott met author Sean Donovan, who writes the "Dear Beer" book series. Their conversation about how all his books have happy endings inspired Scott to consider: Shouldn't we all be writing our own life stories with happy endings in mind? It's a simple but profound question that can transform how you approach each day and your choices. Key Takeaways If you're feeling stuck or frustrated, it's a sign you're not growing - expand your worldview to break through these limitations. People who live average lives chase shiny objects rather than focusing on consistent actions that create sustainable results. When you master the "boring" fundamentals of success, you unlock true freedom of time, relationships, and financial choices. Memorable Quotes "It doesn't make any sense in your own life to write the book of your life without a happy ending." "Growth is everything - if you're feeling stuck in any way today, get yourself in that mode where you're learning and moving forward." "When you master boring, it's amazing what happens - suddenly the whole day opens up with freedom of choice." Scott's Three-Step Approach Think about your life as if you were writing an autobiography today - does it have the happy ending you want? Take a business-minded approach to your personal life by implementing sustainable actions that consistently get results. Ask yourself what one thing you can do today that would make your life story happier, then take action on it. Connect With Me Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Before the first Easter, there was no such thing as a happy ending. Every story ended the same way—death, loss, heartbreak. But then Jesus rose from the dead… and everything changed. In this joyful and thought-provoking Easter message, Pastor Frank Hart explores how the resurrection of Jesus turned tragedy into triumph and gave humanity something it never had before—real hope. With humor, history, and Gospel truth, this sermon invites skeptics, believers, and everyone in between to consider what it means that Jesus really did rise from the grave. Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here—He is risen. Come hear the greatest plot twist in history—and what it means for your story today.

In this episode, The Operator discloses the case of a woman who has Walter on the brain, and Walter has bad things in his. And the Happy Ending reminds us that alcohol is not a brain-enhancer.And for those who are sharing this episode with a friend or enemy, here are the message options you can choose from to really impress the recipients:Message option 1:Dear [insert the person or person's name], I am sending you this because I know you are lonely. You haven't laughed in a while. And the guy that does this podcast inappropriately named the anonymous daughters of the victim in this episode “Sixteenia, and Twelvarbara.” That is their ages, and he didn't know their names, and he thought that would be a creative way to address them. I also think that you will find this morbidly funny. And since you are low on friends, the host of this show will quickly become your new virtual best friend. Reply back when you've listened to the episode, and also let me know if I can borrow $5.Message Option 2:There is a secret code phrase in this episode that you have to find in order to save my life. When you hear the secret code phrase, reply to this text and tell me what it is. The lady says that she will let me go - as free as her chest-twins. I hope she does. It's all up to you now.Hugs. ❤️
True Crime Tuesday presents: A Hate Crime in Brooklyn with Defense Attorney/Author, David G. Secular! When Sofia Hushemi, a sheltered Albanian immigrant, carelessly collides with Sylvester Stanley on her way home from Prospect Park, both escape injury. Upon discovering the loss of her precious ring, gifted to her by Victor, the feared kingpin of the Albanian-American Mafia, she frantically presumes Sylvester, a Black man, was not a jogger, but a culprit. The trial is a rollercoaster of surprises, penned by an author intimately familiar with the courtroom. Can Sofia escape conviction for the racially motivated crime which has polarized New York?
