The Influence of the Velvet Undergroundwith special guest Dave Lennon (Lost in the Groove Podcast)What happens when two podcast hosts—one from sunny Florida, the other from soggy Suffolk—sit down to worship at the altar of The Velvet Underground? Absolute chaos, that's what.In this episode of Beat Motel, Andrew is joined by Dave Lennon from Lost in the Groove to unravel the weird, wonderful, and often dysfunctional legacy of Lou Reed and co. Expect deep dives into the genius of John Cale, Nico's awkward-but-iconic vocals, and why Mo Tucker deserved better.Along the way, we also offend Replacements fans, ponder what David Bowie talked about while curling one out, and discuss how Arctic Monkeys gave a pension to a punk poet. Episode 304 features Bad Acid (ATX) from Austin, Texas. We will be playing a show together in March for a South by Southwest showcase that I gave been putting together, so I wanted to get them on the show. In the episode, I spoke with Keith Moore, a longtime veteran of the scene. I featured their new track “Stations” on this episode. Their sound could loosely be described as garage rock with some elements of punk. Our show will be at The Liberty Bar on East 6th Street on March 13th with former guests of the show Brian Wolff & Dominic Delaney, & Brendan Lane, among others. So if you are in town for the conference, feel free to stop by. Austin is always a great time during South by week, and I highly recommend getting down there one year if you haven't been. This will be the first of a few episodes featuring Austin bands, as I often do in March. In the conversation, we talked a lot about the changing scenery of Austin, avoiding becoming jaded, and art as a whole. Thanks for listening and supporting local musicians.         Part-Time Rockstar Spotify Playlist   Please follow, rate, or review the podcast wherever you are streaming if you'd like to help us out.  -- Part-Time Rockstar Productions is available in the DMV for music videos and live filming.

Send us a textNearly thirty-five years into their unrelenting career, San Diego's sludge metal veterans -(16)- return with Guides For The Misguided, a crushing new album set for release on February 7th via Relapse Records. Frontman Bobby Ferry, who now takes on lead vocal and rhythm guitar duties, describes the album as a natural progression following Into Dust. “It's all about harnessing creative momentum when it strikes,” Ferry states. “Thankfully, we're still driven to write and perform even after all these years.”Since their last full-length, the band has undergone a lineup shift, losing a singer and bringing in Alex Shuster on lead guitar and production duties. This evolution has also influenced their lyrical themes, which now tackle broader conflicts, including religious hypocrisy and psychological trauma. Tracks like “Blood Atonement Blues” explore the dark history of Ervil LeBaron, while “Proudly Damned” delves into the cyclical nature of addiction, using a witch-like character to represent the seductive and destructive force of opiates.Musically, -(16)- continues to craft punishing riffs with raw intensity, blending elements of noise, classic rock, hardcore, doom metal, and thrash. “We are well aware we are not reinventing the wheel but lovingly fashioning something from us and basically for us,” Ferry adds. Tracks like “Proudly Damned” showcase the band's signature fusion of heaviness and storytelling, with seething vocals, apocalyptic guitar tones, and thunderous drumming from Dion Thurman.Closing with the ominously titled “Kick Out The Chair,” Guides For The Misguided stands as a testament to -(16)-'s staying power. Despite the bleak road ahead, their trajectory remains unwavering, solidifying their legacy as one of North America's most enduring heavy acts.www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. This week: a sister-cast episode to a series we have called the Inbetweeners where we on the bands straddling the 80s and 90s in rock n' punk n' metal. This is more specific to metal in the 90s after feeling the impact of the overwhelming shifting of sounds during the decade. Metal became a dirty word by the mid-90s as grunge and alternative took over the rock world, but a new movement in the metal genre blended all of these influences with the heavy. Thus, we give you - 90s Alternative Metal! What's this InObscuria thing? Our podcast exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover mostly bands that have been forgotten including some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the heavy metal 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and metal bands that began during this time put it all in an industrial-strength metal blender. Hope ya dig! Songs this week include:Quicksand – “Thorn In My Side” from Manic Compression (1995)Fragile Porcelain Mice – “Brown Nickel” from Frostbiddin (1996)Therapy? – “Nasuea” from Nurse (1992)Corrosion Of Conformity – “Clean My Wounds” from Deliverance (1994)Prong – “Unconditional” from Prove You Wrong (1991)Fight – “I Am Alive” from A Small Deadly Space (1995)Life Of Agony – “This Time” from River Runs Red (1993)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

A month to the day the Nine Circles Audio Thing is back with our Album of the Month for August! The staff approached, their pitiful, mewling offerings raised with trembling hands in full view of the gnarled stonework to vie for the attentions and affections of the new Judge.  But despite Hera's impassioned plea for the acidic sludge post metal of Norna, Angela's sadly tossed asides poetics to the virtue of black metal chameleons Zeal & Ardor, Colin's progressive medieval circus ride that is the latest from Sur Austru and Ian's gleeful presentation of the blackened speed thrash attack of Demiser the Demiser's Demiser the rose could only be gifted to one. And that one was Chris, who revelled in the hyper-glitchy grind punk noise rock of Melt-Banana, back with their first album in 11 years 3+5, a blizzard of wonder that races by in only 24 minutes. The gang gets in deep, with lots of talk about vocal tics and tremors, the increasingly silly labelling and confining our notions of what constitutes "heavy" or "extreme", and whether we can all kill Hera if we make her listen to enough thrash metal.  There's also a lot of talk about what else we listened to in August, including a way too long conversation about how positively limp and punched in the long awaited(?) Time II from Wintersun is...you've been warned! 9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter (X) | Instagram

Editors’ Voice – Der Redaktionspodcast

A few years ago, Chris (Heads., formerly also in The Ocean), Nic (Heads., formerly also in Eisenvater) and Felix (Hansen Band, Home of the Lame, live-keyboarder for Einstuerzende Neubauten) formed a new band which after a few days was named ZAHN and who struck us (especially Stephan and Thorsten) with their instrumental sound somewhere between Post-Punk, Krautrock (only in attitude), Noise-Rock and many highly delectable elements. Their first self-titled record already received high praise by our head-honcho, but their second record Adria even more so, both records are out via Crazysane Records. Therefore, of course we needed to get an interview with the band and Felix took an hour off (on a Saturday!!) and spoke with us about the band, the records being different stages of a love-relationship, the development of the band and the sound. If you want to know why Morricone is (again) a major influence on a band and much more, then you will enjoy this interview!

Boul God records is a Philadelphia-based bizarre music label that traffics in all manner of surreal and mind-bending contemporary styles of music. From the cavernous, early Death in June influenced post-punk/neofolk of Gorseddd FM, to the disorienting blend of head fucked techno and garbled BM vocals of Grail Wizard, to the brutal and frightening electronics of Incluse, to the dadaist, Kiwi-influenced fucked guitar pop of Flying Mausoleum , Boul God is less concerned with genre than it is the cultivation of an AESTHETIC and an atmosphere. You see, underground labels function best when they are approached as conceptual art projects. The best underground labels — Siltbreeze, Harbinger, Bunker Records, Darker than Black, Hospital Productions — understand this, and when we think of them we think of a certain aesthetic. Boul God is establishing itself upon that list. The anonymous curator/owner/auteur of Boul God joins us here to discuss the label, his own personal taste, covering the Grateful Dead, and the decline of the music scene in his home city of Philly.
