Amy Wilson has three dyslexic children, two who have graduated college and one who is college-bound. She shared with me her decision to homeschool when her children were failing to thrive in public school. Being a mom to dyslexic kids, we had so much in common, but I think you'll find many aspects that relate to your situation, whether or not your kids are divergent learners. We talked about so many great parts of parenting, like getting out of your kids' ways and believing in their potential. She is a wonderful example of advocating for your children and finding resources. We referenced these resources in the interview: Susan Barton, Laura Rogen and Wired for Reading, The Dyslexia Empowerment Plan, Brain Integration Therapy, Rate My Professor, and the books Mindset, Grit, Presence, and Outliers. Confusing letter pairs such as b-d, b-p,p-q, or g-jSaying sounds in the right order in multi-syllable words such as animal, spaghetti, hamburger, consonantHandwriting: their letters don't sit on the line, there may be odd spacing between their words, tall letters are sometimes written as short ones, tails don't always hang below the line, sentences often don't start with capital letters, and punctuation is often left out.

The harsh reality when it comes to dyslexia is this -- you can’t afford to wait for your child’s school to figure it out because that may never happen. Studies show one in five kids struggles with dyslexia, but federal education laws don’t require schools to screen or test for it. And a child who can’t keep up with peers, who’s embarrassed when another child sees his class work, or who feels stupid every day at school is at risk for lifelong emotional scarring. But parents don’t have to sit back and watch it happen anymore. There are steps you can take to help your child if you suspect they have dyslexia. And in this audio, you’ll hear all about them from Susan Barton, founder of Bright Solutions For Dyslexia. She’s going to tell you how to identify the classic warning signs and how to help your child overcome them at home and at school. This is an exclusive interview from Michael Senoff's www.hardtofindseminars.com.
