Reportage Afrique

Reportage Afrique

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 21, 2026 2:59

The guys discuss how Tennessee is likely to handle the catcher spot and how Stone's absence could cause a sizable ripple effect. The Vanderbilt series is one of the more heartbreaking in recent memory. The guys break down what led to three walk-off losses and changes that should and could be made, including bullpen pecking order and the starting rotation.

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 15, 2025 2:29

In part one of this latest episode on Vinyl Community Podcasts, host David Bianco from the Safe & Sound Texas Audio Excursion YouTube channel sits down for a unique and insightful conversation with Don MacInnis, owner of the legendary vinyl pressing plant Record Technology Incorporated (RTI). For decades, RTI has been considered one of the gold standards in audiophile-grade vinyl manufacturing, producing records for labels like Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, Blue Note, Analogue Productions, and countless independent artists who are committed to exceptional sound. What started as a three-day temp agency assignment in 1983, leading to Don and his wife purchasing the company from founder Bill Bauer in March 1992, has culminated in a life spent crafting and honing some of the signature sounds in your very record collection.  David and Don dive deep into the craft of vinyl production—from the technical challenges of plating and pressing to the everyday decisions that determine whether a record becomes a treasured listening experience or one that misses the mark. Don shares stories from the early days of RTI, including how the company grew during the original heyday of vinyl, weathered the rise of CDs, and ultimately found renewed purpose during the modern vinyl resurgence. David's thoughtful questions and genuine passion for analog sound make this conversation both accessible and deeply educational. Whether you're a seasoned vinyl enthusiast, a newcomer curious about what makes audiophile pressings special, or simply fascinated by the intersection of art and manufacturing, this episode provides a rich and engaging look at one of the most respected names in the industry. A must-listen for anyone who believes music should be felt as much as heard.

Jeremy Wendt sits down with Jessica Etheredge, Director of Advocacy for Educated Play, to talk about her transition from educator to champion of inclusive outdoor learning spaces. With a background as a teacher, special education teacher, principal, and RTI coordinator, Etheredge now works with a recreation company that builds inclusive playgrounds, turf sports fields, and outdoor classrooms. Starting her new role on July 1, she helps schools write and secure grants for these projects, combining her passion for education with a desire to spend more time with her son and explore a new path. She highlights the importance of outdoor play in child development, referencing The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt and citing research that shows how meaningful brain breaks through play can significantly improve classroom engagement. From testing new equipment to advocating for better learning environments, Etheredge brings years of experience and fresh energy to the future of educational play. In this special release episode, Just Science sat down with Stacy Sechrist, community violence researcher at RTI International, Jesse Brey, criminal justice researcher and PhD student at Temple University, and Harrod Emmanuel Clay Jr., pastor and community-based advocate, to discuss findings from RTI's Victim and Witness Participation research project, which is supported by the philanthropy Arnold Ventures. For individuals who have experienced or witnessed severe community violence, there is often hesitation to report the crime, participate in law enforcement interviews, or engage in court proceedings. To better understand these barriers, community violence researchers at RTI International and Temple University conducted interviews with individuals who had recently experienced incidents of severe community violence, and found that fear of retaliation, concerns about social consequences, and poor communication from law enforcement are among the most significant obstacles to victim and witness engagement in the criminal legal system. Listen along as Stacy, Jesse, and Pastor Clay describe the importance of giving victims and witnesses a voice after violent crime, common themes found across the research interviews, and important considerations for improving the legal system's response to victim and witness participation. This episode is funded by RTI International's Justice Practice Area.
