James is away for this week's episode, taking a well-earned break after the live 200th show (which may have nearly killed him!). However, fear not because Boyd, Beth and Kay are holding down the fort and exploring the reach of Big Brother (no, not that one) in BBC1's The Capture, cracking a murder with Ted Hastings (sort of) in Ridley on ITV, and seeing if there's foul play afoot beneath Aidan Turner's (magnificent) beard in The Suspect, also on ITV.

This relatively unknown British police procedural is quite simply one of the most well-written shows today. The plot revolves around the fictional anti-corruption unit of Scotland Yard called AC-12. The series follows DS Steve Arnott played by Martin Compston, DC Kate Fleming played by Vicky McClure, and their uncompromising boss Superintendent Ted Hastings played by Adrian Dunbar, as they investigate corrupt policemen. Each season focuses on a particular investigation into a police officer or an entire department, with an overarching plot about a powerful group of officers and politicians running a criminal enterprise within the system. The show received critical acclaim for its unique cinematography and engrossing screenplay. Even the actors were praised for their ability to bring these complex characters to life. Despite the show's relative obscurity in the rest of the world, it is the most viewed police procedural ever to air on BBC in Britain. In fact, some of the dialogues from the series have become part of pop culture references - a vast majority of them being delivered by Ted Hastings, which is now popularly known as ‘Tedism' across the interwebz. The AC-12 is interested in one thing, and one thing only, and that is, as Hastings would say, “nicking bent coppers”. That was some info about the lesser-known series Line of Duty for today on this podcast. You can watch this series on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.I shall be back with another podcast on Lost and found, Until then it's your host Nikhil signing out.

Everyone over the last few years has fallen in love with Adrian Dunbar's character Ted Hastings in Line of Duty and his tenacity for chasing “bent coppers” The lady that I will be talking about in this episode showed the same commitment when trying to uncover corruption, and that made some people uncomfortable, to the extent that it was the reason that she lost her life. Daphne Caruana Galizia single handedly tried to unearth the corrupt underbelly of the Mediterranean island of Malta. In a case that would not be out of place in a spy thriller someone wanted to silence her for good.

The bill for renovating Boris Johnson’s Downing Street flat, what he might have said about “bodies piling high” and Dominic Cummings’ blog revelations have added up to a nightmare week for the Prime Minister. Special guest Stephen Daisley of The Spectator and Scottish Daily Mail joins us to ask if Johnson can weather it and if new ministerial standards advisor Christopher Geidt has the powers he needs.Plus, could the fall of Arlene Foster lead to a harder-line DUP leadership and even another breakdown of government in Northern Ireland? And we take a deep dive into the realities of Scotland’s potential independent future. “The question is, Has the PM done anything that would put him on the wrong side of Ted Hastings from Line Of Duty?” – Stephen Daisley“The Gove and Henry Newman faction is much in the ascendant and we’re seeing a clear-out of the Vote Leave people.” – Stephen Daisley“For the French, the scandal is that Boris Johnson hasn’t spent ENOUGH on his wallpaper…” – Stephen DaisleyPresented by Bronwen Maddox with Gemma Tetlow, Jill Rutter, Cath Haddon and Graham Atkins. I'm almost too excited to write this but..for this extra-special bonus episode, I bring you none other than Adrian Dunbar: the man, the myth, the legend who plays Superintendent Ted Hastings in one of my favourite ever TV shows Line of Duty. If you're watching season six of Jed Mercurio's addictive police procedural, I suspect you will be obsessed with this interview (and yes, of course I ask him about 'H') but if you've never seen Line of Duty, I promise you'll still love it because Adrian is such a wonderful, thoughtful guest. We had a really moving conversation about growing up in Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles, the sudden death of his father from a brain haemorrhage, the impact this had on his family and what it meant to win a place at drama college in the midst of all the uncertainty. Plus what it's like to work with Vicky McClure and Martin Compston on Line of Duty, where he gets his catchphrases from and I ask him to call me 'fella' which was joyous. That's it from me for season 10. I'll be back in a few weeks' time for a special Mental Health Week episode. Please do make sure you've subscribed so as not to miss out! And thank you, as ever, for listening. * If you'd like to listen to a How To Fail episode with another Line of Duty star, I interviewed the wonderful Vicky McClure aka Kate Fleming way back in Season 4. You can find it here. * With many thanks to Scott Bryan for permission to use his fantastic video mash-up of all Ted Hastings's catchphrases. You can follow Scott on Twitter on @scottygb * Failosophy: A Handbook for when Things Go Wrong is out now and available to buy here. * How To Fail With Elizabeth Day is hosted by Elizabeth Day, produced by Naomi Mantin and Chris Sharp. Adrian Dunbar off of Line Of Duty gives your favourite hits the Ted Hastings Interrogation Treatment and manages to make Olivia Rodrigo sound quite menacing. Also, Gigs – remember what they are? Chris explains.
AC-12 is back in the house this week as we catch up with all the latest Ted Hastings developments in Line Of Duty series 6 on BBC1 (NOTE: contains no spoilers or plot discussion for this or previous seasons), plus we pick up the phone for Apple’s batty audio-only drama Calls, and finally get to go on a holiday (albeit a vicarious one) as we join Kaley Cuoco for jet-setting murder mystery The Flight Attendant on Sky. All that and Terri disappears down an Unforgotten rabbit hole and we take a trip down memory lane to the shows we loved back when we were knee-high to a grasshopper.

We met up with Adrian at Maison Bertaux on an beautiful sunny day in May and had a lovely cup of coffee (tea for Craig) and spent a wonderful hour winding through his childhood in Enniskillen, his adventures as a young man in New York and London, his dual life as bass-player and slaughter-house worker, his writing process and of course, a little bit about his role in the brilliant Line of Duty.As well as his role as Ted Hastings in Line of Duty, you may know Adrian from brilliant films such as The General, The Crying Game, Hear My Song (which he also co-wrote) as well as appearances at the finest theatres across the land. He's an incredibly talented person and his humour and nature shine through in this episode. We're sure you'll enjoy every minute. Thanks a lot for listening. Get in touch...
