We did our MOLMFiest on this one and nailed the perfect Goldilocks between the three hosts: one of us loved it, one of us hated it, and Ben though it was juuuuuuuust...fine. De loin, on pourrait croire que Tunic n'est qu'un énième hommage aux premiers Zelda, comme il en sort tant dans la sphère indé. Mais ce n'est que la partie émergée de l'iceberg. Le premier jeu commercial d'Andrew Shouldice est non seulement un superbe action-RPG en vue isométrique, mais aussi une mine de secrets qui ont de quoi retourner quelques cerveaux. Sans oublier son magnifique vrai-faux manuel qui lie l'ensemble de ses idées. C'est un jeu de game designer, de fan de JV, qui démontre une compréhension pointue du médium, mais auquel il manque peut-être un fond thématique plus personnel pour devenir une véritable référence à son tour. Them Sweet Boys go to Indie Town, population Ghost Foxes! Joe and Ethan try to decipher the mystery that is Tunic, a 2022 throwback to the original NES Zelda games. You play as an adorable fox cub who is tasked with exploring the ancient ruins of an island to free a spectral fox from her prison, but boy does this little fox have a tough time doing so. This one gets pretty salty!

Spoilers aplenty this episode so if you are considering giving this a go, play it before listening and reading below. What you thought was a cute little Zelda game turns out to be much deeper and darker as you explore the far reaches of its world. You gradually uncover pages of an in-game manual, written in an alien language, and you struggle (in a good way) to use it to decipher the world and the mechanics. Tunic does a great job of being just accessible enough, where nothing is too out of reach, letting you peel back the layers of mystery at a satisfying and challenging pace. While we have plenty of actual video games to discuss this week, the recent premiere of 'The Last of Us' on HBO steals the spotlight this week. The show is off to a strong start so we take a minute (or 30) to talk about that first impression and the potential that it holds in the coming weeks (or even years). In the first segment though, we check in with Krispy as he continues to play Tunic (one of our 2022 game of the year contenders) and Chris Davis explains his split feelings on Generation Zero, an open-world FPS that came out in 2018.
