Men's Month hits national treasure status this week, as the team were thrilled when actor, comedian, presenter and expert in accents, Les Dennis agreed to come round to Hannah's flat to drink some Malbec and solve a crime, and it turns out, he's a natural! Les sifted through his top ten of criminal experiences to share with us the time his skills as a performer saved him from a violent encounter, and even managed to ultimately enlist the help of his would-be attackers in finding some lost property. We then hear about a crime, which if it hadn't happened, would make the perfect case for Inspector Clouseau, and a natural accompaniment for Les' Malbec … although we definitely recommend giving the holy grail a rinse out before you pour any wine in. Finally, the team solves a listener crime in which we discover that most cats are either psychic, have IBS, or both! The Drunk Women are returning to their London residency at 21Soho in 2024! In our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the goings on in Weatherfield between the 2nd and the 4th October (Episodes #11073 - 11078). Twenty years to the week after Todd's famous 'wrong move' that saw him attempt to kiss Nick, Coronation Street finally had its first gay wedding day this week (or at least the first that didn't end in a jilting or a pesky factory roof landing on one half of the couple's head..). Despite the tragic fact that this marriage can't possibly end happily ever after due to Paul's condition, the day itself was joyous, and the resultant fallout between Billy and the Church led to some great discussion on the podcast too! We also had a fair bit to say about the marketing of vapes to children too, as Corrie begins its latest teen bullying / peer pressure story focusing on Liam, Dylan and new bad boy Mason. Also this week, a few unlikely coincidences (that are actually ten a penny on Corrie, to be fair) lead to Stephen realising that he needs to leave Weatherfield ASAP, Aadi's hissy fit nearly sees him getting arrested and Stu tries to dig up some dirt on Dom. Up next on the show, it's The Kabin, where we take a look on how Corrie alumni Les Dennis and Ellie Leach are doing on Strictly (hint: not so well for Les..) and we round of the show with more of your feedback. Bobby Davro is an absolute legend in the world of British Variety and Television from the 1980's onwards. I first met Bobby at the Wimbledon theatre when I was 16 and visiting puppeteer Simon Buckley who I had just recorded a TV show with in 1993 and he invited me to see his pantomime starring Bobby Davro. Bobby was gracious and always has been to me.We have since worked many variety shows or charity events together and he has me in tears of laughter each time and he is one of the best impressionists out there.Bobby tells me of his big break on TV where he ended his act with an impression of Elton John on the piano and this shot him to the title of a household name landing his own TV Series. We talk of his collaboration with ventriloquist Ray Alan as well as many more including his friendship with an icon of his in Gilbert O Sullivan and this includes Bobby's latest TV spot on BBC's Celebrity MastermindWe talk about Dave Evans, Frankie Vaughan, Bob Monkhouse, Les Dennis, Peter Kay & Sir Ken Dodd. One of my favourite subjects today was taking advice about daughters and Bobby explains it so well. I have to say I laughed a lot and I welled up on occasions, Bobby really does talk from the heart. He has been there and done it. His stage skills and advice is well worth taking in especially where learning routines and memory comes into it. This is something I struggle with.It has taken me 2 years to tie Bobby down for this interview but it was well worth the wait. Welcome to the World's Greatest Variety Show Bobby Davro

Suzy Klein and Huw Stephens are joined by actor, comedian and entertainer Les Dennis as he hosts a tribute to his friend Barry Cryer. Kat Farmer left a lucrative city job after she had kids and was unsure what to do next. She rediscovered a love of fashion and it's ability to reinvent, and embraced the digital age, starting a blog, "Does my bum look 40 in this?" and becoming an online influencer. She now works as a stylist, for personal clients and on TV. She joins us. Saturday Live listener Martyn Bradley was aged 12 when, at a family party, his great grandfather gave all his great grandchildren a pocket watch, except him, on the grounds that he was adopted. OCH! Well help our boabs and jing our crivvens, The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour finds itself queuing once more at Berwick's passport office in an annual pilgrimage northward for the New Year's Eve celebrations, where all Blackout, Doctor Velvet and Ozzy Bognops have to declare is some pretty firm Opinions™ on the television of years past... Their first-foot is a trip to the rural majesty of Glendarroch, where domestic strife and highfalutin corporate angst stand shoulder-to-shoulder. Will auld acquaintances be forgot in time for the bells to ring in the new year? The only way to find out is to Take The High Road. Then it's a rest from All The Drama and onto All The Fun (or a percentage thereof); no festive season would be complete without a visit from Les Dennis, here this time to host a hooting Hogmanay Special of Family Fortunes as he pits two Scottish clans against one another in a survey-analysis to the death. Does every croft North Of The Border have a special room where all the sound effects are kept? Do ITV's gameshow booking department only have the phone number of one village hall in Scotland? And how long can Blackout keep doing that accent before half his family disown (or claymore) him? Make it YOUR New Year's resolution to hit PLAY and find out... We've inputted the data for this weeks guest and while her character in Bottom is a bit raggy round the edges, in real life she's an absolute cracker. She's a stage, screen and comedy veteren who's appeared in The Dark Crystal, In Deep, The Bill, The Russ Abbot and Les Dennis shows and at 27 landed her own prime time BBC1 sketch show. It's our favourite love bureau matchmaker Lily Lineker herself; it's Lisa Maxwell! Lisa discusses her training at Italia Conte and entry into entertainment, alternative comedy, auditioning for and losing out on the role of Daphne in Frasier, sketches vs sitcoms, working with Rik and Ade, Lily Linekar's life outside of the Bureau, studio recordings, helpful repeat fees, having "A wazzo pair of jugs" quoted at her, Bottom's enduring popularity and starring in The Bill (and hearing the "vomiting blood" line!). The conversation took place over Zoom so please forgive the occasional connection drop out. Are You Michelle from Skins?

I am thrilled to welcome actual TV legend LES DENNIS to Are You Michelle from Skins? this week! Les has been a TV icon throughout the decades, from Family Fortunes, to the official best episode of Ricky Gervais' Extras, and THAT iconic appearance in Celebrity Big Brother (listen in to his behind the scenes tales of talking to the chickens). However I know him as the kind and wonderful friend I met when we worked on the film Sideshow together. Les takes everything in his stride with an abundance of good humour - I can't recommend this man enough. Our survey says…. Listen to Les Dennis on Are You Michelle From Skins? NOW! The Beatles came from a very special place. The humor of Liverpool - hard-edged and seriously funny - was explored by a generation of comedians in its working mens' (that is what they were) clubs. “Jigsy” began life as a play, the fruit of years of observation by the writer and BBC arts producer Tony Staveacre (who, fair's fair, is also my brother-in-law). Modeled closely on Jackie Hamilton, who never really broke into television, Jigsy was brought to life by the Liverpool actor who started in standup, Les Dennis. Eight years later, in the midst of the pandemic, Jigsy is slaying them on YouTube. By happy coincidence Tony Staveacre's BBC show about Jackie Hamilton, Standing Up for Liverpool gets an outing on BBC Radio 4 Extra on July 18th at 10:30PM.
