Line of Duty's Adrian Dunbar narrates Obscene: The Dublin Scandal, a seven-part series about a bizarre moment in Irish history. In the summer of 1982, two seemingly random killings occurred within the space of days, sparking Ireland's biggest manhunt. The smartly-dressed suspect, Malcolm MacArthur, was eventually found hiding in the home of Ireland's Attorney General. His trial lasted seven minutes, and after spending 30 years behind bars, MacArthur can now be seen wandering the streets of Dublin. Featuring contributions from award-winning Irish novelist Colm Toibin (Brooklyn), The Irish Times' Fintan O'Toole, and veteran broadcaster Olivia O'Leary, this series revisits the political fallout that ensued, and tackles the many unanswered questions surrounding this case.

This relatively unknown British police procedural is quite simply one of the most well-written shows today. The plot revolves around the fictional anti-corruption unit of Scotland Yard called AC-12. The series follows DS Steve Arnott played by Martin Compston, DC Kate Fleming played by Vicky McClure, and their uncompromising boss Superintendent Ted Hastings played by Adrian Dunbar, as they investigate corrupt policemen. Each season focuses on a particular investigation into a police officer or an entire department, with an overarching plot about a powerful group of officers and politicians running a criminal enterprise within the system. The show received critical acclaim for its unique cinematography and engrossing screenplay. Even the actors were praised for their ability to bring these complex characters to life. Despite the show's relative obscurity in the rest of the world, it is the most viewed police procedural ever to air on BBC in Britain. In fact, some of the dialogues from the series have become part of pop culture references - a vast majority of them being delivered by Ted Hastings, which is now popularly known as ‘Tedism' across the interwebz. The AC-12 is interested in one thing, and one thing only, and that is, as Hastings would say, “nicking bent coppers”. That was some info about the lesser-known series Line of Duty for today on this podcast. You can watch this series on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.I shall be back with another podcast on Lost and found, Until then it's your host Nikhil signing out.

Janet Behan carries on the family tradition of creativity in both her acting and writing. The London-born daughter of Dublin-born playwright Brian Behan & Celia Behan, great niece of the songwriter Peadar Kearney (author of Amhrán na bhFiann, the Irish National Anthem), and niece of the writers Dominic Behan and Brendan Behan. On this serving of The Stew, she tells of a deprived but happy childhood “that took a bit of recovering from” and how “playing the fool” to ease family tensions led her to the stage and screen. Trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama , she is known for her roles in National Theatre productions and in the popular TV series EastEnders.“I've always had a fear of being ordinary, just an ordinary human Behan,” she says quoting her uncle Brendan. She channeled the spirit of her uncle in writing Brendan at the Chelsea which caught the eye of Adrian Dunbar who'd go on to direct and star in it's Lyric Theatre of Belfast production which earned rave reviews in an Off-Broadway run. Recently she realized she was old enough to play her indomitable grandmother, which she did in the recent film Kathleen and Me.Janet tells us of being too Irish for the English and too English for the Irish, saying “I think of myself as somebody who is always on her knees, begging and pleading to be allowed into Ireland...culturally and psychologically.”Janet Behan Links:TwitterLinkedInRepresentation

I'm almost too excited to write this but..for this extra-special bonus episode, I bring you none other than Adrian Dunbar: the man, the myth, the legend who plays Superintendent Ted Hastings in one of my favourite ever TV shows Line of Duty. If you're watching season six of Jed Mercurio's addictive police procedural, I suspect you will be obsessed with this interview (and yes, of course I ask him about 'H') but if you've never seen Line of Duty, I promise you'll still love it because Adrian is such a wonderful, thoughtful guest. We had a really moving conversation about growing up in Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles, the sudden death of his father from a brain haemorrhage, the impact this had on his family and what it meant to win a place at drama college in the midst of all the uncertainty. Plus what it's like to work with Vicky McClure and Martin Compston on Line of Duty, where he gets his catchphrases from and I ask him to call me 'fella' which was joyous. That's it from me for season 10. I'll be back in a few weeks' time for a special Mental Health Week episode. Please do make sure you've subscribed so as not to miss out! And thank you, as ever, for listening. * If you'd like to listen to a How To Fail episode with another Line of Duty star, I interviewed the wonderful Vicky McClure aka Kate Fleming way back in Season 4. You can find it here. * With many thanks to Scott Bryan for permission to use his fantastic video mash-up of all Ted Hastings's catchphrases. You can follow Scott on Twitter on @scottygb * Failosophy: A Handbook for when Things Go Wrong is out now and available to buy here. * How To Fail With Elizabeth Day is hosted by Elizabeth Day, produced by Naomi Mantin and Chris Sharp. This special Trinity Long Room Hub online event, which marked the seventh anniversary of the poet's death (on 30th August, 2013) looked at the work of Seamus Heaney through five images which reflect his preoccupations and help us to understand his achievement in poetry. These images, were discussed by two leading scholars of Heaney's work, Rosie Lavan and Chris Morash, evoke different moments in his career, from his early appearance in Vogue magazine to his humane meditations on the history of violence prompted by world events. Accompanied by selections from his poetry and prose read by the distinguished actor Adrian Dunbar, they also shed light on the influences and experiences – both public and private – which shaped Heaney's imagination. The event also marked the launch of Seamus Heaney and Society, by Rosie Lavan. Published in 2020 by Oxford University Press, this important new study discusses how the poet was shaped by his work as a teacher, lecturer, critic, and public figure.

We talk to campaigners, MPs, patients and specialists about the most common form of inflammatory arthritis: gout. This programme was funded by a grant from The Schuh Trust. Gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis and affects 1 in 40 people in the UK. So why do we still see it as something that exists only in the pages of Victorian novels? In this episode of Airing Pain we go inside the Houses of Parliament and speak with MPs, clinicians, patients and UK Gout Society members to find out why. What is gout? Gout is a type of arthritis caused by a build-up of uric acid crystals in the joints, most frequently the feet. As with many conditions, flare-ups can be brought on by a number of factors including lifestyle, stress and diet. Some people, however, have a genetic predisposition. Paul Webber and Alan Hughes both suffer with gout, describing the pain as being repeatedly being kicked in the shin and worse than a red-hot poker. What’s the treatment? Treatments for reducing pain during attacks include icing the joint and taking medications, however there are also long term treatments. There are lifestyle changes we can make, such as consuming less yeast-rich food and drink, staying active and drinking plenty of water. Despite being relatively inexpensive to treat, gout comes at a great cost to the economy and society, as the Chief Executive of ARMA, Sue Brown, highlights. Consultant Rheumatologist Dr Jonathon Rees identifies a lack of awareness in primary care, with cases often going undiagnosed. Paul also talks to Michael Snaith about his early gout and gender research at the UK’s first gender reassignment, and Lord Ramsbotham sums up perfectly why gout really is no laughing matter. Contributors: - Jim Shannon MP for Strangford - Dr George Nuki, professor of rheumatology at the University of Edinburgh - Paul Webber, gout sufferer - Alun Hughes, gout sufferer - Dr Tim Tait, Consultant Rheumatologist, Royal Hallamshire Hospital - Stuart Reed, gout sufferer and patient trustee of the UK Gout Society - Dr Jonathan Rees, Consultant Rheumatologist and Sports Medicine, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - Dr Adrian Dunbar, GP with a special interest in musculoskeletal medicine and chronic pain - Sue Brown, Chief Executive of Arthritis & Musculoskeletal Alliance - Dr Michael Snaith, retired Consultant Rheumatologist and trustee of the UK Gout Society - Lord Ramsbotham, cross bench member of the House of Lords and gout sufferer - Lynsey Conway, UK Gout Society Secretariat More information For more support and information on living with gout, visit: - NHS Choices Gout http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/gout/Pages/Introduction.aspx - The UK Gout Society http://www.ukgoutsociety.org First broadcast 06/06/17 #AiringPain, #PainConcern, #AbleRadio, #gout, #UkGoutSociety, #ShoutAboutGout
