This ties into a broader discussion on well-rounded TV arcs, as he also covers "Hacks" Season 3 and the ever-evolving "Dexter: Original Sin," noting its mixed critical reception. The conversation then veers towards other compelling series like "Unforgotten" and "Patience," both lauded for their nuanced storytelling. On a cinematic note, Gray reminisces his recent film escapades, including Cameron Diaz's return in "Back in Action" alongside Jamie Foxx, and a casual yet amusing trip to see "Bridget Jones." Dave follows up with insights on "The Electric State," starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, dissecting its mixed reviews and the controversy surrounding its hefty production budget.New TV Series to Look Out ForBoth Dave and Gray move on to some new series and specials worth noting. "Severance" also comes up, with Dave critiquing its pacing while still appreciating its overall brilliance. For genre TV lovers, there's much to anticipate. The much-loved series like "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" sees renewal, promising continued adventures. On the cancellations side, "Cruel Intentions" meets its end after just one season on Prime Video, prompting speculations on why it failed to capture viewers' attention.Casting News and Anticipated ReturnsGray and Dave delve into the plethora of casting news, including Matthew McFadgen in "Legacy of Spies" and exciting prospects for "Dexter Resurrection" starring big names like Neil Patrick Harris and Peter Dinklage. They discuss potential shifts in the series narratives with these additions and ponder on how these changes might reflect in viewership. Moreover, the upcoming "Lanterns" series geared towards a blend of superhero and crime drama tropes piques interest, while the new "9-1-1 Nashville" spin-off starring Chris O'Donnell promises more firehouse drama mixed with music vibes, given its Nashville setting.Weekly Viewing HighlightsFinally, mark your calendars for the upcoming gems hitting screens next week, including the return of "Marlowe Murder Club," "Gangs of London," and the intriguing "Happy Face" on Paramount+. TV Insider Paul Symonds joins Matt and Dawn to review 4 of the biggest shows available this week. Firstly, it's the return of Mike White's HBO anthology series The White Lotus, set at another luxurious resort this time in Thailand. The podcast trio look into what makes the show so successful and drills into the big themes of the opening episode.  Next up, a starry cast does not an interesting drama make as they look at political thriller Zero Day from Netflix. The series, which boasts a lead performance by Robert De Niro feels rather odd given the current state of American politics.  Over on Disney+, there's period drama A Thousand Blows from prolific TV scribe Steven Knight which has been promoted as the 'Stephen Graham Boxing drama' but is actually something much more interesting. Finally, the only BBC offering this week is Dope Girls, similar in tone to 'Blows' this gritty period piece promises a lot but does it deliver? There's also discussion on Sky's Mussolini drama, the final episodes of Big Boys on Channel 4 and ITV's Unforgotten.

Today I sit down with Maximilian Barlerin. You might have first heard his name back in October when Corey Buhay wrote what Max humbly calls “a fluff piece” about his staggering 14-pitch, 5.13 big wall first ascent in the Wind River Range—Children of the Sun. The article described an "everyman" 5.14 climber balancing family, two jobs, a fledgling business, and an impressive list of first ascents. This is the first time Maximilian has spoken publicly about his life.Max isn't just a climber…He works as a climbing ranger and search-and-rescue responder in Rocky Mountain National Park. His career put him face-to-face with some of the harshest realities of the mountains, forcing him to reconcile the risks we take as climbers with the consequences he's witnessed firsthand. Through years of SAR work, close calls, and deep self-reflection, he's developed a rare perspective on climbing, risk, and the ever-evolving relationship we have with danger.Just days before this episode launch, I learned that Max and his entire team of rangers had been laid off due to recent federal budget cuts—a devastating blow, especially for those who relied on the job not just for income, but for housing. The outdoor community is certainly hurting right now, and my heart goes out to everyone affected. Max reminds us that this is not a good year to get injured in the mountains—there just might not be anyone there to rescue you. After we unpack the highs and lows of his time as a climbing ranger..we dive into four of his most notable first ascents in Patagonia, Zion, and the Wind River Range—covering the vision, the process, and the lessons he's learned along the way.Maximilian is a soft-spoken, humble climber with an astonishing depth of experience and achievement, and I'm psyched to share his story.----HELP KEEP THIS PODCAST AD FREE! | For a little as $3/mo!----Don't forget to check out our full video episodes on Youtube! The TCM movement is growing but we need your help to spread the word! Matt, Dawn and Sarah are back to review three shows we've always championed. Firstly, Sanjeev Bhaskar packs his backpack for series 6 of the jewel in ITV's crown Unforgotten. He returns along with new colleague Jessie (Sinéad Keenan) to investigate another cold case when body parts are found in a river. The series introduces us to four disconnected families or stories but how do they connect to the body? Next, it's been a long wait for the third season of the hit US comedy Hacks. The series, which originally aired on Prime Video is now available on Sky and NOW and they've bought the first two seasons and the third season which means our wait is over. The incredible comedy with two equally powerful performances from Jean Smart and Hannah Einbeinder delivers possibly its strongest season yet. Next, Jack Rooke's semi-autobiographical comedy Big Boys is back for its third and final series, and on Netflix, there's a new true-crime drama Apple Cider Vinegar about an infamous Australian cancer scammer.

Joining us today is a trailblazer whose career has not only redefined British comedy but also bridged cultures and brought untold stories to the forefront of our screens. From groundbreaking sketch shows to acclaimed dramatic roles, he's carved out a legacy that spans comedy, drama, and beyond—it's the brilliant Sanjeev Bhaskar! In this episode, Sanjeev takes us through his remarkable journey, naming luck and timing—alongside plenty of hard work—among the biggest catalysts for his success. From growing up above a launderette in Hounslow as the son of Indian immigrants to becoming one of the UK's most celebrated performers, he reflects on how a flip-of-a-coin decision by BBC executives set his career in motion at a time when he felt like a failure; only to later realise he was simply a “success in waiting.”Beyond comedy, Sanjeev opens up about his transition into dramatic acting, how he landed his career-defining role in Unforgotten, and the personal philosophy that has shaped both his professional and personal life. He also speaks candidly about fatherhood, trusting the process, and why he refuses to map out his future and enjoys embracing uncertainty. The incredible crime drama Unforgotten returns with another brilliant series, starting Sunday 9th February on ITV.For all the latest news, click here to follow us on Instagram!***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods. The Unforgotten, Season 2: Unnatural Causes investigates the worst serial killer in Dallas history. In 2016, healthy, active women began to drop dead in Dallas's most exclusive senior living communities and their own homes. Because of their age and where they lived, officials assumed that heart attacks, strokes and other natural causes were to blame. It wasn't until years later, after a woman survived and told police she'd been attacked by a man who tried to smother her with a pillow, that police realized what was actually happening. One of Texas's most prolific serial killers had gone completely undetected. Why were officials so quick to brush aside the deaths as natural? How did the killer use the cracks of a broken system to target some of society's most vulnerable people? And how can we be sure it doesn't happen again? Learn more about your ad choices. This podcast is a deeply personal one for me. Not just because I resonate so much with Jassa and his experience of not having a true sense of identity, but because I'm expecting a child with my wife late this year who will be of mixed heritage. My wife is Italian and I'm Indian so our child will be both Indian and Italian, rather than half Indian and half Italian. I never really thought of being half something and half something else as ever really something to pay attention to, but recording this podcast with Jassa and reading his story has made a real impact on me.In the same way John Agard educated us all with his wildly popular poem “half caste”, about the impact of words on people's sense of worth, I feel Jassa has educated me on the use of my words and thoughts, regardless of whether there is ill intent or malice behind them. Words mean so much and I'd never want anyone, let alone my unborn child, to feel anything other than a whole person.Jassa Ahluwalia is a British actor, writer, filmmaker and trade unionist. Born in Coventry to a white English mum and a brown Punjabi dad in 1990, he attended school in Leicester and was raised in an extended family environment. He spoke English in the playground, Punjabi with his grandparents, and spent various summer holidays in India. He came to prominence as Rocky in the hit BBC Three series Some Girls, followed by starring roles in Unforgotten, Ripper Street, and Peaky Blinders. He's also one of the funniest comedians I've ever come across on social media. Please watch some of his sketches online!Jassa created the hashtag #BothNotHalf to explore mixed identity in light of his own British-Indian heritage.
