Dr. Jordan B. Peterson and Naomi Wolf discuss her original ambitions, the derailment of her scholarly career at the hands of misogyny, her rise to the forefront of third wave feminism as a best-selling author, and how the mainstream turned on her once she wrote on a topic the Left had blacklisted: COVID-19. Naomi Wolf is an American author and journalist. Her first book, “The Beauty Myth,” would challenge notions of attraction, arguing they are societally fabricated. This publication became an international bestseller and cemented Wolf as one of the leading spokeswomen for the third wave feminist movement. She has published many books since then, such as “The End of America, and Vagina: A New Biography.” In recent years, she has come under fire for being an “anti-vaxer” and a “conspiracy theorist,” which led Wolf to write her most recent book, “The Bodies of Others: The New Authoritarians, COVID-19 and The War Against the Human.” - Links - For Dr. Naomi Wolf The Bodies of Others (Book): https://www.amazon.com/Bodies-Others-Authoritarians-COVID-19-Against/dp/1737478560 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/naomirwolf/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/naomirwolf?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
Naomi Wolf is one of my favourite feminists and runs the Daily Clout. Naomi Rebekah Wolf is an American feminist author and journalist. Following her first book The Beauty Myth, she became a leading spokeswoman of what has been described as the third wave of the feminist movement. Feminists including Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan praised her work. Others, including Camille Paglia, criticized it. In the 1990s, she was a political advisor to the presidential campaigns of Bill Clinton and Al Gore. Wolf's later books include the bestseller The End of America in 2007 and Vagina: A New Biography. I am generally antagonistic towards (modern) feminism because it often appears to be a celebration of victimhood culture and a deliberate attack on family values and men. Having watched Cassie Jaye's documentary, The Red Pill, I was left feeling disgusted at the excessive hatred being vomited by feminists who were interviewed. Naomi, however, is nowhere near any of that misandrist nonsense. She shoots guns; she opposes abortion; she rejects state tyranny; she is heavily censored; and she likes men. Brilliant. On this episode of You,Me&Us, I’m in conversation with Namita Kulkarni, a 35 years old, yoga teacher, writer, artist and world traveler, living in Bangalore/Mysore, India. In this episode, we touch upon many taboo topics in India, such as: female sexuality and pleasure, abuse, being a single Indian woman in your mid 30’s and the patriarchy! We dive a little deeper into the difficult territories of: sexual assault, victim blaming, and the responsibility of our communities to help women heal. We also talk about self-abandonment, the importance of emotional intelligence, and self-esteem. Namita believes you date and relate at the level of your self-esteem. We talk about connection and our relational needs as a species. We touch upon ‘silent contracts’ and how they harm our relationships and how clarity might be the key! And we dig into the concepts of discernment and having higher standards for what we entertain in our lives. We try to see, how we can foster honesty and integrity in a breakup — and exit a relationship with grace. She’s currently single. Her last relationship ended about 3 years ago and recently, she just got out of what she calls and ‘entanglement’. Just a heads up, this episode was recorded online due to COVID19, and internet can be shabby on a monsoon rainy day, so there are some few minor lags in the connection at times, but nothing that will bother you too much. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to soak in every insightful word shared by Namita. We cannot talk about collective health, planetary health, or the health of future generations, without talking about the health of mothers. As Rachelle says, “The dysfunction and disharmony within our human environments is manifesting through the vulnerable bodies of postpartum women. In fact it is through the bodies of mothers that humanity is being alerted to the urgency of our collective need for change.” IN THE INTRO: The reaction to my previous episode on parenting without a village IN THE INTERVIEW: Our culture is set up to fail new families/parents, and pathologizing the postpartum period overlooks the fact that it’s our social structures that are the cause of the immense emotional and psychological pain most postpartum mothers feel Mama- it’s not your fault New moms lose up to 700 hours of sleep during the first postpartum year The baseline of normal is that human babies need care 24/7 (your baby is not “high needs”), what’s not normal is living in isolated nuclear families Postpartum care cannot happen without community, and community is the one thing we are all lacking Why it’s so hard, when it’s what we all deeply crave, to recreate the community living of our ancestors/how the colonial mindset keeps us mired in separation and distrust The pelvis as the seat of trauma for most every woman, and how we can begin to heal that How we feel in our pelvis is how we feel in our life- the connection between mental and pelvic health Intergenerational trauma and clearing the “bad medicine” that was embedded in the bodies of our female ancestors and passed down to us Anchoring in what we actually believe about ourselves, our bodies, this life Women are, and deeply feel, unsafe in our culture The incredible responsibility of raising girls (and boys tho!) in this culture, and how Rachelle and I navigate talking to them about the realities of patriarchy in an age appropriate way Teaching our kids to respect their inner authority first and foremost Reproductive and environmental justice are one and the same It’s time to grow up and do the work- our primary responsibility as adults on this planet at this time is to caretake life One simple way we can create community and support the parents of little ones If we can’t be resourced horizontally (by the folks around us), we can be resourced vertically (by our well ancestors) and by the land The sacrifices we make as mothers are a holy offering to life itself LINKS: The Innate Traditions website Innate Traditions on Instagram Medicine Stories Patreon (podcast bonuses!) American author Naomi Wolf made her name with The Beauty Myth, a book that exposed the tyranny of the ideal of female beauty. Now she’s back with a no less dramatic or controversial new work. In Vagina: A New Biography Wolf makes the case that the vagina is much more than a sex organ – it is integral to female well-being, and a catalyst to female creativity, confidence and identity. In this talk for Intelligence Squared she explained how the latest neuroscience reveals fascinating new discoveries about the vagina and female wellbeing, and discussed sexual relationships, pornography, history and literature. She showed how men can learn more about ‘what women really need’, and how women can experience themselves in a new way. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Aired 9/30/12 When Naomi Wolf's The Beauty Myth was published in 1991, Gloria Steinem hailed it as "a smart, angry, insightful book, and a clarion call to freedom," recommendingm "Every woman should read it." The New York Times called it one of the most important books of the 20th century. Over the intervening two decades, Wolf continued to write about the role of women in our culture, but she also took on broader political issues in books such as The End of America and Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries. In her newest book, VAGINA: A NEW BIOGRAPHY, she returns to the feminine and the personal. Drawing on cutting-edge neurobiological research, she makes the bold claim that there is a direct link between a woman's experience of her vagina and her experience of her very sense of self. Heralded by Publishers Weekly as one of the best science books of the year, the book is also receiving more than its share of critical reviews. I'll talk with Wolf -- No stranger to controversy -- about the good, the bad, and the surprising - in her research, her synthesis, and in responses to her new work. http://naomiwolf.org
