Today's podcast episode is the fourth time this month that we have re-shared a past interview with Dr. Yuri Maltsev, longtime Economics Professor at Carthage, who passed away in late January. This 2017 conversation touches on economic policies of the Trump administration. Professor Maltsev also talks about the continent of Africa and a trip he had just taken there with Carthage students.
During the month of February, we are remembering Dr. Yuri Maltsev, long-time Professor of Economics at Carthage College, who passed away in late January at the age of 72. Every Saturday, the podcast will feature an archival interview with Professor Maltsev. This conversation was originally broadcast in August of 2015. It's a discussion about the chaotic state of affairs in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the highly corrupt activities of Russian Oligarchs.
Each Saturday in February, we are replaying memorable Morning Show conversations with the late Dr. Yuri Maltsev, long time Economics Professor at Carthage College, who passed away on January 25th. This 2018 conversation was primarily about Chernobyl. (Maltsev was living and working in Moscow at the time of the 1986 disaster.)

In memory of Dr. Yuri Maltsev, longtime Professor of Economics at Carthage College (who passed away on January 25th) we are sharing a number of archival Morning Show interviews with him during the month of February. This particular interview was recorded and initially broadcast in April of 2013. [His first-ever Morning Show interview, from 2001, was shared on Saturday February 4th. On subsequent Saturdays for the remainder of February, we will share more interviews with Professor Maltsev.]
Through the month of February, we will devote one weekend segment of the Morning Show podcast to remembering Dr. Yuri Maltsev, Professor of Economics at Carthage College since 1991 and a frequent guest to the Morning Show - who passed away on January 25th at the age of 72. This is (I believe) the first of Professor Maltsev's visits to the program- dating from the fall of 2001.
Dr. Art Cyr, from the faculty at Carthage College, joins us for his first monthly visit of 2023. Our conversation begins with a tribute to Dr. Cyr's longtime faculty colleague and friend Dr. Yuri Maltsev, who recently passed away. (We will be sharing recordings of a couple of Dr. Maltsev's Morning Show conversations this coming weekend.)
Frederick Hayek's famous book, "The Road to Serfdom" has been read by millions and is a favorite of those who previously lived under socialist regimes. One of the biggest fans of Hayek's book was Yuri Maltsev who defected to the US after working as an economist in the USSR under Gorbachev. I'm sad to report that Yuri passed away last week. I wanted to pay tribute to his contribution to our understanding of how these brutal regimes work, and more importantly, familiarize ourselves with the characteristics so we can notice them in our own society. The battle between liberty and tyranny is ongoing and Yuri Maltsev helped us immensely with our understanding of this eternal battle. From the panel recorded at the 2014 Austrian Economics Research Conference in Auburn, Alabama, on 20 March 2014. Sponsored by Carolyn Foss. 'The Road to Serfdom' at 70 | Yuri N. Yuri Maltsev of Mises says Gorbachev inadvertently brought the Soviet Union down by taking the fear out of socialism. Gorbachev did not reform socialism. Millions died under Stalin. The Soviet Union should be a stern warning against socialism. People should look to Austrian economics not Marx for answers.
Dr. Yuri Maltsev, Professor of Economics at Carthage College, weighs in on the war between Russia and Ukraine.

David Stockman and Michael Oliver return. As Dr. Yuri Maltsev noted last week, societies that believe citizens have no sovereign rights but rather are slaves of the state tend to engage in propaganda to keep their subjects obedient and in line with the wishes of the ruling lords. David will share research covered in his recent article titled “We are Not Useful Idiots!” that reveals a much more complex story of the Ukraine than the Washington narrative is providing. Washington claims to be much more concerned about the borders of the Ukraine than those of the southern U.S. border. How does that work? We will ask David to give a grade to the religious practitioners of Keynesian economics and based on that, where he thinks our major markets are headed. Michael who has continued to provide excellent guidance regarding the precious metals markets will share his latest momentum and structural model results for gold and silver and several other key markets and help us understand how various market sectors are driving one another.

Dr. Yuri Maltsev visits for the first time. Quinton Hennigh and John Rubino return. Ron Paul once said in a GOP presidential debate that “if we are free, we will be prosperous.” Yuri understands that as well as anyone having worked as an economist on behalf President Gorbachev's perestroika reform package. In 1989 Yuri defected from the Soviet Union not only because he knew the Soviet economic system was doomed but for a much greater reason - freedom & liberty. Yuri witnessed firsthand how power-hungry politicians use propaganda to deceive people in order to grab power and deprive people of their natural human rights. He is not fooled by similar deceiving propaganda being used now in the U.S. and Western countries in general. As the natural rights and freedoms we, as Americans, have taken for granted are rapidly being stripped away, what will that mean not only for our personal wealth, but more importantly to our rights, to live free and develop our personal talents and religious beliefs as our Founding Fathers willed for us? Those and more topics will be explored with Yuri. Meantime, we don't want to retreat into a bunker only to miss opportunities to live life to the fullest including recognizing investment opportunities staring us in the face. Eskay Mining, for example, is apparently on to a great new gold and silver discovery in B.C. Quinton will update us on that company's exploration progress. And John will be with me to chat about that investment as well as several others that have the potential to become the next Great Bear success story, a company that gave my subscribers the opportunity to realize a 4,731% gain.

This conversation was recorded and initially broadcast in late 2001, not long after the onset of Operation Enduring Freedom, a retaliatory strike on Afghanistan in the wake of 9-11. Dr. Yuri Maltsev, Professor of Economics at Carthage, brought to bear a wide-ranging expertise about the former Soviet Union and the nations surrounding it, including Afghanistan.
If we’re going to discuss how socialism has never worked, we should hear from someone who lived it for years. Yuri Maltsev, Member of the Board of Advisors at Carthage College, details his time working with Mikhail Gorbachev – before defecting to the United States – and how socialists rule by force and by fear. Out of 36 times in history, socialism has not once succeeded. This episode was originally posted on October 14, 2017. Want More? Dr. Maltsev, an economics professor at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, shares his views on his students' most popular misconceptions, myths about who are Donald Trump supporters, and whether failure of state-planned economy has to do with lacking a good plan. #RashkinReport
Our guest is a well-known Russian economist, Pavel Usanov - speaking on, among other things, the current state of affairs in Russia - and what the policies of Vladimir Putin have done to the Russian economy. He is joined in the studio by two members of the Carthage faculty: Dr. Yuri Maltsev and Dr. Art Cyr.
Russia’s interests in Central Asia are similar to those of China and the United States. Today, all three powers are mostly concerned with security in the region. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russian troops were withdrawn from Central Asia, with the exception of those in Tajikistan and small forces on the Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan borders with China. Both Russia and China were threatened by the spillover of Islamic militancy, terrorism, and arms and drug trafficking from the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a security bloc jointly led by China and Russia, now includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan, and is currently engaged in military, security, economic and technological cooperative efforts in Central Asia. In this talk, Maltsev discusses the current state of affairs and the development of international political cooperation in Central Asia since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Tonight, on our seventh MisesUK.Org podcast, Andy Duncan speaks with Yuri Maltsev, a Senior Fellow of the Ludwig Von Mises Institute and Professor of Economics in Wisconsin, as well as being an author of numerous books and many Austrian School articles. They compare and contrast President Donald Trump with President Vladimir Putin, examine how economics worked in the late Soviet Union, what Murray Rothbard was like to meet for the first time, and how they believe the future of Austrian Economics will go against Socialism. The western media's fawning treatment of Fidel Castro demonstrates the enduring mystique of socialism—while recent Harvard and Rasmussen polls suggest that perhaps half of young Americans hold unfavorable attitudes toward capitalism. No matter how many millions perish in collectivist bloodbaths, the Left remains committed to its ideology of radical egalitarianism and enamored of murderous revolutionary figures like Che Guevara. Our great friend Yuri Maltsev, a victim of Soviet totalitarianism in his youth, joins us to explain how and why westerners still don't understand what socialism really means. He recounts his many trips to Cuba, and demolishes the myths surrounding that country's vaunted "healthcare" and "education" systems. He explains how socialism actually produces a superclass of elites and a form of socio-economic apartheid, rather than egalitarian nirvana. And he reminds us that the romantic vision held by western elites is best defeated by those who have lived through the ravages of collectivism firsthand.

Vad man blandade i korven. Hur Moskva grundades av en kines. Varför han reste med en väska fylld med kondomer. Hur välfärdsstaten skapar röstboskap och hur kulturmarxismen hotar västerlandets frihet. Bland mycket annat.
Yuri Maltsev, economist and Soviet defector, discusses life in the Soviet Union.
