Interview with Dave Rosenfeld (guitar) from Black Rose Rebellion. New Jersey hard rock band BLACK ROSE REBELLION who are releasing their new album, Hail The Rebel Queen, on May 29th via Pavement EntertainmentCurrent Singles: Hail The Rebel Queen (Releasing May 29th) For Fans Of: Halestorm, In This Moment, Shinedown, Evanescence, The Pretty Reckless Black Rose Rebellion is a modern hard rock band forged from strength, power, and rebirth. The Black Rose itself symbolizes major change, hope, and optimism—core themes reflected in both the band's music and the personal journeys of its members. The rebellion was born in June 2022, when frontwoman Trybe and lead guitarist/co-writer Dave “The RockDoc” Rosenfeld—complete strangers at the time—were each on the verge of walking away from music altogether. Introduced by a mutual friend despite coming from entirely different worlds, their connection sparked an immediate creative rebirth and laid the foundation for Black Rose Rebellion. Hailing from both the northern and southern halves of New Jersey, USA, the band has developed a powerful, genre-blending sound influenced by decades of rock and metal, while maintaining a bold, modern edge. Beyond the music, Black Rose Rebellion represents a brand built on individuality, resilience, and self-belief—encouraging listeners to stand for who they are and what they believe in. Lead guitarist Dave “The RockDoc” Rosenfeld has been a lifelong musician while simultaneously building a successful and highly decorated career as one of New Jersey's top dental practitioners. His precision, intensity, and passion translate seamlessly from profession to performance. Inspired by her husband's ambition and love for music, Karen “Kar Rose” Rosenfeld joined as drummer and co-founder. Her impeccable timing, hard-hitting power, and dynamic, lyrical playing make her the unmistakable heartbeat of the band. Frontwoman Trybe grew up immersed in music, studying piano and clarinet while deliberately avoiding the family tradition of guitar and drums. After a challenging transition following 13 years of service in the United States Army—serving in the JAG Corps, Operation Enduring Freedom, Civil Affairs, and later as a Drill Sergeant—she rediscovered music as a source of purpose and healing. A self-taught vocalist, her voice became her weapon, forging the commanding, powerhouse identity that defines Black Rose Rebellion. Brooklyn-born bassist Michele Mayhem brings a fierce, authentic rock edge shaped by years of live performance. Known for her powerful stage presence and grounded intensity, her experience and energy add a commanding dimension to the band's sound. Black Rose Rebellion came out of the gate strong, performing at some of New Jersey's most prestigious venues and directly supporting artists such as Sponge, Spread Eagle, and other rising national acts. With their debut album set for release in the near future, the band continues to grow its loyal following—The Rebel Army. AJ Pasciuti grew up in Sunnyvale, California, the son of Italian and Argentine immigrants. After 9/11 reshaped his sense of purpose, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division — one of the most storied units in the Corps — where he served as a rifleman and team leader. Over twenty-one years of service, he deployed three times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, including the Battle of Fallujah. He led a Scout Sniper team that tracked and killed the most lethal enemy sniper in Iraq — a figure known as "Juba" — and recovered a stolen Marine sniper rifle in what was the first mission of its kind by an American service member since Vietnam. He went on to serve with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion and 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company, deploying to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom and later with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. As an instructor, he taught at the Scout Sniper School at Camp Pendleton, created the Recon Team Leaders Course, and helped develop the Infantry Marine Course at School of Infantry–West, modernizing foundational training for enlisted Marines. Selected for the highly competitive Marine Gunner program, he became an Infantry Weapons Officer and rose to Chief Warrant Officer 3 before retiring from the Marine Corps in 2023. He holds a Master of Business for Veterans from the University of Southern California and a Master of Public Leadership from the University of San Francisco, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies at the University of San Diego. He is the host of the Combat Story podcast and the author of Darkhorse: Harnessing Hidden Potential in War and Life, releasing May 19, 2026. Cars aren't just a mode of transportation. They're a passion. An image. A lifestyle. For many families, they are the bond that brings together father and son. For Frank Viola, cars are the legacy of his son, Green Beret SSG Alex Viola. Alex graduated as a Green Beret in 2011 and then went on to get his Combat Dive Certification. In September 2013, his team deployed to Afghanistan as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom. On November 17, 2013 Alex lost his life to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while on dismounted patrol. After the loss of their son, Frank and his family faced the unimaginable challenge of how to move forward. The answer came from something Alex loved deeply: cars. Alex was a true car guy, and restoring vehicles with his dad was one of the ways they spent time together. What began as a simple idea to honor Alex's memory turned into the SSG Alex Viola Memorial Car Show. The first event was held in freezing weather with modest expectations, but the community showed up, raising twenty thousand dollars that first year alone.Today the event has grown into something far greater than anyone imagined. Nearly four hundred cars fill the lot each year, and the show has raised nearly seven hundred thousand dollars to support charitable causes, including the families of Green Berets through the Green Beret Foundation.Host Fran Racioppi sits down with Frank Viola to share how this fundraiser is more than impressive horsepower and jaw-dropping donations. It's a powerful story of resilience, community, and how one family's determination not only honors a fallen hero but has also remarkably reunited their own distant family members and created a new, unbreakable bond with Alex's former Green Beret teammates.Highlights0:00 Introduction1:57 Welcome to the Jedburgh Podcast2:22 Who was SSG Alex Viola?6:11 Why a Car Show?10:05 How loss brought the family together12:34 Alex's Team16:03 The 2025 Show17:02 Working with the Foundations18:36 Advice for Future Green BeretsQuotes“Alex was a father's dream of a son.”“His whole thing was to be out there in the ditches with the guys.”“Alex was a car guy.”“In a million years, we never expected anything like it.”“We have a goal of reaching $1,000,000 in donations.”“There's been some of my cousins that I've never met, but because of this, now we're really close.”“They're like our own kids.”“Losing Alex was probably the worst thing that could ever happen to any parent.”“It's just been a win win all the way around.”“They know we're always going to do the right thing.”“The whole theme of both organizations is supporting the families of fallen and wounded warriors' families.”“I don't think that anyone can just become a Green Beret. In this episode of Coffee Talk with Bryan and Marie, we sit down with Army Veteran Stephen Page whose path spans military intelligence, elite martial arts competition, and small‑business leadership. After transitioning out of the military, he helped run a small business while competing in martial arts at the highest levels — earning titles at U.S. Nationals and the Pan‑Ams in Olympic Taekwondo, along with a Brown Belt in Judo and a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu‑Jitsu.Today, he owns and operates Venom Tactical Techniques, Training & Consulting (VT3C), providing emergency management, preparedness, security, tactical, and first‑aid training for communities and organizations. Join Bryan and Marie for a grounded, high‑energy conversation about service, discipline, entrepreneurship, and building skills that save lives.
We decided to schedule this episode based on a video of COL King giving an outstanding hype speech to Bronco Brigade before they competed in Tropic Lightning Week. Unfortunately that video is currently unavailable due to the Army's restriction of unit social media pages, but if we can get our hands on the file we'll get it posted on our own page soon! Notably, unlike most content focusing on specific military leaders that gets significant engagement, the comments were almost universally positive, coming from people who had served with COL King throughout his career. That immediately told us he'd be someone worth hearing from.Colonel Adisa King is a Jackson, Mississippi native and graduated in December 2000 from United States Military Academy at West Point. He commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Infantry. After completing Airborne and Ranger School, he set off on a career in the infantry that has spanned 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Hovey, Korea, the Old Guard in Fort Myer, VA, Marine Corps Expeditionary School, 82nd Airborne Division, deployment to New Orleans, LA, for Hurricane Katrina recovery, and deployment to Samarra, Iraq in support of Operation Iraq Freedom 05-06 and 08-09.He served as an Admission Liaison Officer for the Army Football Team, attended Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS, and received his Masters in Business Administration from Webster University. From there he went off to 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) where he deployed to Khost Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12-13 and deployed to Afghanistan again in 2014 in support of Operation Resolute Support. He served in the Senate Liaison Division (SLD) within the Office of Chief of Legislative Liaison (OCLL). He later served as the Aide to Acting Secretary of the Army Honorable Patrick Murphy followed by the confirmed 22nd Secretary of the Army, Honorable Eric K. Fanning. He did squadron command back in 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and in 2019 deployed to Iraq again. He was Regimental Tactical Officer for 1st Regiment in the United States Corps of Cadets and attended War College before assuming his current command of 3rd Brigade 25th ID.You can read the article about "prevention" vs "risk mitigation" mentioned in the opening here.

Jerry now serves as CEO and primary liaison for Operation Life Support, a non-profit initiative focused on supporting communities impacted by traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress. Drawing from his own experiences as a traumatic brain injury survivor and more than twenty-six years of crisis intervention work, Jerry is working to connect veterans, first responders, and everyday Americans with the resources and support they need. In this conversation, Jerry shares insights on trauma, crisis, the impact of TBI, and why peer support and community awareness are so important for helping people reclaim their lives with purpose. What drives someone to leave a successful 15-year law enforcement career to tackle one of the most challenging problems facing first responders? In this episode, Cam and Otis sit down with Joe Smarro, a decorated Marine Corps combat veteran, former San Antonio Police officer, and founder of SolutionPoint+, who's on a mission to eradicate suicide among first responders."Misery was the catalyst," Joe explains candidly about his transition from police work to entrepreneurship. As one of the original members of the SAPD Mental Health Unit—featured in the Emmy award-winning documentary "Ernie & Joe: Crisis Cops"—Joe shares powerful insights about trauma, PTSD, and the surprising overlap between the symptoms of post-traumatic stress and entrepreneurship. From discussing how "all behavior is communication" to revealing why he turned to business the way others turn to alcohol, this conversation explores the intersection of mental health, leadership, and purpose-driven work. Joe's approach to de-escalating mental health crises and his framework for understanding human behavior offer valuable lessons for anyone leading teams or navigating their own challenges.Whether you're a first responder, an entrepreneur dealing with the obsessive nature of building a business, or a leader seeking to better understand the people you serve, Joe's journey from battlefield to advocate provides a roadmap for turning trauma into meaningful impact.More About Joe:Joe is a decorated combat veteran from the United States Marine Corps. Death in a Police Battle, Trauma as a Combat Veteran and Childhood.“From surviving horrific childhood abuse to fighting wars overseas, and later facing tragedy in uniform, Joe Smarro's life is a story of trauma, transformation, and a relentless drive to heal.” This episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, available for free on our website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and most podcast platforms. Joe Smarro, a former San Antonio Police Officer and decorated U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran, has walked through some of life's darkest battles, both internal and external. His story begins in a childhood marked by extreme abuse, physical, emotional, and sexual. “I experienced things no child ever should,” Joe shares. “I left home at 15 just to survive.” The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast promoted across their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. By 17, he was a father, a role that forced him to grow up even faster. With the responsibilities of parenthood and the desire to build a better future, Joe joined the United States Marine Corps. He deployed twice to Iraq, serving in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, earning recognition for his bravery and service. But like so many others, Joe came home from war carrying invisible wounds. Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . After leaving the military, Joe found a new sense of duty in law enforcement, joining the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) in 2005. However, his time as an officer would soon test him in ways he could never have imagined. While still a probationary officer, Joe was involved in a violent confrontation that ended in a death in a police battle. “It was the moment everything changed,” he recalls. “The fight, the death, the silence afterward, it all forced me to confront the trauma I'd been burying since childhood and combat.” Death in a Police Battle, Trauma as a Combat Veteran and Childhood. That moment became a turning point. Joe began to realize that his struggles, his pain, guilt, and emotional turmoil, were not weaknesses but warning signs. Signs that he, like many others, was carrying deep trauma as a combat veteran and as a police officer. Instead of running from it, Joe made a choice, to face it head-on and help others do the same. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. Joe became one of the founding members of the SAPD Mental Health Unit (MHU), a groundbreaking program created to improve how police respond to individuals in crisis. What began as a small initiative grew into a nationally recognized model for compassionate policing, earning national and international awards for excellence. “We wanted to change the narrative, to bring empathy back to policing,” Joe explains. For more than 11 years, Joe served in that unit, developing training and protocols that have since influenced departments across the United States. His work, both on the streets and behind the scenes, showed that when law enforcement meets mental health with compassion, lives are saved, and trust is rebuilt. Joe's story gained national attention through the Emmy Award-winning documentary, Ernie & Joe: Crisis Cops, which follows two officers as they work to change how police respond to mental health calls in San Antonio. The film, supported by the IDA Enterprise Fund, Fork Films, and The Lovell Foundation, has been shown worldwide, sparking critical conversations about mental health, policing, and reform. Death in a Police Battle, Trauma as a Combat Veteran and Childhood. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. He also took his message to the stage, delivering a powerful TEDx San Antonio talk titled “I See You,” where he shared his belief in the power of empathy, understanding, and human connection. “We all want to be seen,” Joe said during that talk. “We all want to know we matter.” In 2017, Joe founded SolutionPoint+, a company dedicated to bridging the gap between criminal justice and behavioral health systems. As CEO, he leads a team that provides training, consulting, and speaking engagements nationwide, helping police departments, healthcare providers, and organizations create trauma-informed, emotionally intelligent workplaces. Joe's personal mission has evolved into a powerful national movement. His “big, hairy, audacious goal” is to eradicate suicide among all first responders, starting with law enforcement officers. “No one should have to carry their trauma alone,” Joe says. “Not a child, not a combat veteran, and not a cop.” His work has been featured across major News outlets, on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast Social Media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, where he continues to reach new audiences through interviews and advocacy work. The full podcast episode is streaming now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Through his ongoing journey of healing, Joe Smarro reminds the world that trauma does not define you, what you do with it does. From a broken childhood to battlefields and beyond, his story is one of redemption, purpose, and service. Death in a Police Battle, Trauma as a Combat Veteran and Childhood. “I've lived through death, war, and despair. But I've also seen hope, healing, and the human capacity for change. That's why I share my story, because someone out there needs to know they're not alone.” Joe Smarro Follow Joe's work and mission through SolutionPoint+ and connect on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Apple, Spotify, and across the Internet. Our guest today is Phyllis Elmore, a remarkable woman whose story is as unforgettable as the quilts that helped shape her life.Phyllis is the author of Quilt of Souls, a powerful and deeply personal memoir that has touched readers across the country. Born in the Detroit and raised by her grandmother Lula in rural Alabama, Phyllis found herself immersed in a world of deep wisdom, quiet strength, and generational resilience. It was there, surrounded by women who stitched their pain, perseverance, and history into quilts, that Phyllis discovered healing—and the true meaning of family. In 1973, Phyllis joined the United States Air Force and was one of the first female Aircraft Pneudraulic Specialist for the B-52 Bomber. After leaving the Air Force she attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. In 2001, she joined the Army National Guard as an active-duty guard member. It's also noteworthy to mention that Phyllis was one of only a handful of women in the military who served in three major military conflicts including the Vietnam Era where she served a temporary duty assignment to Vietnam before the 1975 fall of Saigon. She was also deployed to Saudi Arabia as a member of Operation Desert Storm, and in December 2003 as a member of the Army National Guard where she was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In her civilian career she worked as a counselor for incarcerated youth and for women who were victims of domestic violence. She also spent ten years as a Substance Abuse Counseling Supervisor. In her remarkable book Quilt of Souls, Phyllis shares stories that were nearly lost stories of the Black women who raised children not theirs, who held families together through hardship, and who passed down their heritage through hands that stitched, cooked, comforted, and carried so much. Her writing is rich, lyrical, and full of love—an act of remembrance and a celebration of the strength it takes to keep going, and to keep telling the truth.(3:11) Phyllis recounts being uprooted from Detroit at age four and sent to rural Alabama to live with her grandmother, Lula. She describes the powerful emotional refuge of Lula's quilts—especially one that made her feel truly safe for the first time.(8:03) We get to know Grandmother Lula, an indomitable force who stitched not only quilts but entire communities together. Lula lived to be 105 years old and was threading a needle at 100.(15:55) Phyllis reflects on her return to Detroit as a teen, where she was labeled “incorrigible”—and how those experiences shaped her decision to join the U.S. Air Force.(23:57) After her military service, Phyllis worked as a counselor for incarcerated youth and women facing domestic abuse. Hear how she channeled her life experiences into serving others.(27:30) What inspired Quilt of Souls? Phyllis shares the moment she realized that the stories she carried could—and should—be written down.(30:39) She recalls a particularly poignant story unearthed during her research—one that stuck with her and shaped the book's message.(34:27) Meet Miss Jubilee and hear about the extraordinary quilts and lives Phyllis encountered while researching her memoir.(40:43) Discover the Quilt of Souls Preservation Project and get a preview of Phyllis' upcoming Quilt of Souls Gathering in June 2026.(46:15) Phyllis reveals what she hopes readers take away from Quilt of Souls—and why she believes it's never too late to “right” your story.(51:00) What didn't we ask that she wishes we had? Send us a textToday's interview is one that I truly enjoy because it focuses on the patient's experience. Meet Dan Drydock Shockley, a Navy veteran who served in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. At the age of 51, after a routine colonoscopy, Dan was diagnosed with Attenuated Familial Adenomatous Polyposis—quite a mouthful, indeed. I will let Dan share the rest of his incredible story, as he is a gifted speaker. He serves as a live case presentation speaker for the Stanford School of Medicine's Molecular Foundations of Medicine course and the Stanford MS Program in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling. Dan's story has undoubtedly impacted many individuals. Patient experiences are crucial for healthcare professionals; they are at the heart of why we do what we do. You will hear about the many connections that Dan forged throughout his journey. As I have told him, there are no coincidences in life, only divine interventions, which you will witness today. Dan is also a master of acronyms and created one based on his experience: Always Forge Ahead with a Purpose. Brilliant. In the five-minute snippet: Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines? In this inspiring episode of The MisFitNation, host Rich LaMonica sits down with Retired U.S. Army Major Gerald Gangaram, a decorated combat pilot turned national advocate for civic education. Raised in a low-income neighborhood in Queens, NY, Gerald's journey took him from West Point to the battlefields of Afghanistan, where he led soldiers and flew Apache helicopters during Operation Enduring Freedom. Today, he serves as the Vice President of Civic Leadership Development at the Bill of Rights Institute, where he empowers students and leaders to embrace America's founding principles.
In this powerful episode, Ghost is joined by CannCon to unravel the tangled history of America's longest war. The conversation begins with George W. Bush's televised announcement of Operation Enduring Freedom, then pivots into a deep exploration of how U.S. policies and covert funding shaped Afghanistan's fate. CannCon shares vivid, firsthand accounts from multiple deployments, from building the remote 7171 base to daily firefights and confronting the grim reality of poppy fields fueling the opioid crisis back home. The discussion examines how the CIA's Cold War strategies birthed the mujahideen and laid the groundwork for decades of conflict. Alongside personal reflections on brotherhood, trauma, and the sense of futility, the episode challenges official narratives, questioning whether the war's failures were incompetence or by design. Stories of bizarre moments, like discovering a massive IED in a bulldozer bucket and witnessing UFOs on patrol, punctuate the grim recollections. Packed with unflinching honesty, historical context, and hard-won perspective, this chapter is a sobering look at the cost of endless interventionism.

When I was serving in Afghanistan, it was always mission first. You have to get the “scared” out of your mind. I told myself that God put me here for a reason. -Erica Horan By popular demand, we're reissuing a handful of our most popular interviews. Meet Boston Medflight www.bostonmedflight.org nurse and US Air Force veteran, Erica Horan. Recorded 5 years ago in a hangar at a municipal airport just outside of Boston, this interview tells the story of a former black belt champion driven to serve and succeed. A veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Erica became a commissioned officer in the Air Force as a critical care nurse shortly after earning her nursing degree. She saw every kind of injury on the front lines in Afghanistan, and speaks candidly about her own struggles with depression and the need for mental health support for our troops. Says Erica: “I counted the days until I got home, but when I got here, I didn't know what to do with myself. I wanted to go back. I didn't receive mental health support, and had a hard time adjusting.” Born to care for others, Erica has been a key player on Boston Medflight's four medical teams for 7 years now and is incredibly proud of the people she works with. “We take care of very sick people as quickly as possible. Every day is different, and we work 12-hour shifts. You don't know what you're gonna get. We all have to keep learning at this job because medicine is changing every day.” Married to a surgeon who commutes from a military hospital in California back to his family in the Boston area every week, the couple has 3 children they are devoted to. Says Erica: “If I can raise three good human beings who are respectful, inclusive, and God-fearing, then I've made it. That's success to me. “ From war stories to love stories, patriotism and purpose, this interview has it all. In This Episode You Will Hear: • [The field] is the great equalizer. Nobody can bother me there. On the field, it doesn't matter what you bring, what you showed up in, or what kind of clothes or shoes you have. It's me against you. (18:49) •You just never knew when to give all you had, so all you do was constantly give all you had. (31:13) •Life's not fair, which makes it fair. (36:45) •Just like in the Navy, you're not gonna do well in the beginning, because they've gotta see a transition to you being good. (43:22) •We made marijuana legal, but what that did was the cartels were like “I'm not losing 30% of my profit. I'll find something else.” (61:46) •America makes up 80 something percent of the world's opioid prescriptions. (63:11) •I take full responsibility for my divorce. I forgot how to be a husband, forgot how to be a dad, and it hit me hard. (66:11) • [My friend Brian, also the Police Chief] was checking in on me. You know what I didn't say? “how're you doing bro?” He checked on me and I didn't check on him. 2 hours later he went home and shot and killed himself. (72:46) •If you want to learn how to make ramen the right way, ask a military guy. (76:31) •I just felt like I was failing my kids every single day. All of a sudden, this light bulb went off. The next step in my transition from the Navy to the police department to the team, is to take myself out of the game. (77:00) •The off-ramp is – it's okay to not be okay. (80:05) •Once you realize that life is short, you don't want to waste 24 hours being hungover. (86:04) •Every day I'd wake up and I'd say. “Today's a good day to die, so is tomorrow.” And I would try to string some good decisions together. (90:29) •My motto is: Every day, I find an opportunity inside of my 24-hour window that I get to live to do something good for somebody else. (91:08) •Tomorrow is a good day, and you can make it there. (93:20) •The scariest day of my life was when I hit “publish” on my book. (100:08) •Where I sit here today, God is the biggest influence in my life. (107:08) •As I speak around the country people would line up to buy a book, but I realized they weren't trying to buy a book. You know what they wanted to do? They just wanted to come and say “Hey, I'm struggling, too.” (116:10) Socials: -- IG: authormattgriffin Support TNQ - IG: team_neverquit , marcusluttrell , melanieluttrell , huntero13 - https://www.patreon.com/teamneverquit Sponsors: - WARFARE IN THEATERS - shipsticks.com/TNQ - Navyfederal.org - Robinhood.com/gold - strawberry.me/TNQ - stopboxusa.com {TNQ} - ghostbed.com/TNQ [TNQ] - kalshi.com/TNQ - PXG.com/TNQ - joinbilt.com/TNQ - Tonal.com [TNQ] - greenlight.com/TNQ - PDSDebt.com/TNQ - drinkAG1.com/TNQ - Shadyrays.com [TNQ] - qualialife.com/TNQ [TNQ] - Hims.com/TNQ - Shopify.com/TNQ - Aura.com/TNQ - Policygenius.com - TAKELEAN.com [TNQ] - usejoymode.com [TNQ]

In This Episode You Will Hear: • 35 in the Marine Corps, that's old. (14:04) • We were part of a surge in the summer of '07, and my vehicle struck and activated a pressure plate IED. This IED went off directly underneath me, and from that blast I became a double leg amputee. (15:02) • I rolled over on my back to try to use my left leg to push, and when I tried to do that, that's when I realized my left leg was gone. (24:50) • I'm married, I have kids, I have goals, and I was immediately aware of how challenging my life was gonna be. (25:17) • As a platoon sergeant, I was armed with both a rifle and pistol. That pistol was on my hip, and I had the conscious thought to end my life right there. I could do it before they could finish working on me. (25:33) • I had a very clear moment of calming, reflection of “everybody did their best.” I'm just gonna die here on the battlefield. (26:54) • My initial assessment was “You're gonna walk in about 10 months to a year. (33:32) • Being in a wheelchair, even as a gunny, is like the kids table at Thanksgiving. Nobody's talking to you; they're talking about you. (35:08) • There's a great relationship you have to have with your prosthetic doctor. The fit has to be tight, but not too tight. Then there's alignment. There's a lot that goes into it. (37:39) • Guys like me – a double leg amputee, I call guys that are single leg below the knee – we refer to that as a paper cut. (38:48) • Perspective is everything. (39:35) • I was able to retire though, which is important because I did a full 20 years, 6 months, and 3 days of active duty time. (46:15) • In 2018 I got one of the greatest phone calls I've ever received. Kevin Hudson from PXG called me and said, “We got a program going on - PXG Heroes. If I help you with this program, do you think you could golf a little bit more, and talk about the program, and introduce people to PXG. Would you be willing to do that? (48:19) • Golf is the only thing you can do competitively for the rest of your life. (62:45) • [Marcus] In the beginning you wonder why you got hit.
