The two find they have much in common- but there is a lingering fear on the part of Giovanni regarding her poisonous apsect, a fear which become worse after Giovanni is warned by jhis father's friend that she has become a part of her father's deadly experiment. 

A down and out young man looking for work gets a job as custodian at a wax works museum and finds himself captivated by a woman's wax likeness in the section reserved for murderers. This story was inspired by the author's attempt to sneak into the famous Madame Tussaud's London waxworks- the story of which we are currently playing at 1001 Hedroes, legends, Histories & Mysteries Podcast. 

You'll find suspense, horror, and brilliantly crafted storyline in this classic Hawthorne short story about a young man who cmonmes to Padua Italy to study and finds himself in love with a young beauty whose life has been compromised by an evil father. 

Ken Ward, returning to the team's quarters after his fight with Graves, is confronted by Coach Worry, who asks him how his face got banged up.  Graves appears a few minutes later in worse shape and gets a tongue-lashing from Worry.

The team plays an overconfident State University team and teaches them some lessons. After the game, the coach warns the team of their only weakness- that of every man on the team adhering to the rules of curfew and rules regarding no smoking/no drinking.  But one player is going against the grain- and Ken calls him out.

In The Spring- A young man goes outdoors on a warm spring day and finds his attentions are riveted on a beautiful young girl- but before he can approach him he is pulled aside by an older man who insists on telling him a story about the dangers of love. A Coward- An overly proud young man challenges another to a duel but his courage fades as the hour approaches. While vacationing at a Maine resort, a young bachelor is left hign and high by a young lady who decided to dump him at the last minute.  While watching her disappear acropss the lake with her new choice, he is approached by a saucy young lady who happenes to be the younger sister of his love interest.

Following an inspiring speech from President Halstead, some new plqayers appeared, and Ken finally got a chance to pitch. 

On the streets of New York our narrator runs into an old buddy named Kansas Bill who he hasn't seen for a long while. Upon invitation to Sir Henry's residence, a small group mof close friends, both men and women, gather to have a chance to meet the famous African big game hunter Mr. Allen Quartermaine.  This story, written in 1885, is one of H. In chapter 3 Sir Pellias holds true to his promise to declare Queen Guinivere to be the most beautiful queen while outside the castle of the knight of the green sleeves- and winds up being treated to a dinner within the castle where he is persuaded to give up his enchanted necklace - after which troubole follows. Two classic morality tales which have been shared for way over a hundred years from Hans Christian Anderson.  The Emperor's New Clothes:  The ruler of a kingdom is duped by a pair of conmen pretending to be weavers who convince the emperor that only the ignorant, or those unfit for their jobs, fail to see the fine clothes they will make for the king. The word gets around and when the king dons the clothes, he and everyone else can see that he is standing in his underwear, but no one has the moral courage to tell the king that he is standing with very little on. This is one of best Father Brown stories I have had the pleasure to share. The start of another great series of baseball short stories (the last one was "The Red-Headed Outfield)- this one being"The Young Pitcher'- the storyof a very young man who attends a large college as a freshman and soon learns what hazing is all about. Sir Pelias, one of King Arthur's top knights, makes a promise to Lady Guinevere that he will go on a mission to defend her honor, and leaves her company unarmed, promising he will capture another knight's armor and return with great deeds accomplished.

Our narrator tells a great fishing story whicfh begins at the home of an old local fisherman with two beautiful daughters and continues with a battle of wits between he and a huge trout followed by some good country advice.

A marrried couple who for years has ben enjoying gifts from a generous uncle they had never met finally get the chance to meet him when he cables that he is traveling to see them and stay for awhile. As you migt expect the story has a surprise ending.

A young man who has just lost his father and needs to support his mother tries to find work but no one, inluding his own uncle, will hire him due to his deceased father's bad reputation as a shirker. Finally a local farmer offers the young man a job to clear an entire field of elderberries down to the roots for a pittance, provided he finishes the job. The young man has nowhere else to turn and accepts the offer.

 Two brothers who own a successful clock/watch shop in Paris are surprised when a disreputable looking man enters the shop- and they both believe has has come to case the shop before robbing it. They contact the police, and the police question the man, but come up with nothing. Things turn bad for the brothers soon after.
