On this episode of The Disciple-Making Parent, we explore one of life's most avoided topics: death and dying.We'll listen to a recent sermon from Chap where he talks about how Christians shouldn't fear talking about our final departure and what it means to "run through the tape" rather than coast into the finish line. We examine five biblical principles for facing old age and death with faith and joy, drawing from Paul's final words in 2 Timothy 4. We discuss how death is not the end but a portal to something better, why we should anticipate suffering in our final years, and how to keep our eyes fixed on Christ and heaven even as our bodies decay. We also wrestle with the physical, emotional, and social suffering that comes with aging, and why we should strive for joy instead of becoming sour in our later years.This conversation challenges us to develop a biblical strategy for finishing well, longing for heaven, and glorifying God even in our dying.

Aunque el océano era vasto, sus redes a menudo subían vacías de peces y sus numerosos hijos conocían demasiado bien el dolor del hambre ya que pocas veces podían comer abundantemeneUn día, buscando cambiar su suerte, la pareja remó en su frágil canoa mucho más allá de lo habitual, perdiendo de vista la línea de la costa y de su bahia. Fue entonces cuando el mar, caprichoso y traicionero, dejo caer  una niebla densa y blanca que los cubrió totalmenteborrando el sol y el horizonte, dejándolos a la deriva en un un mar gris, hostil y silencioso..De repente, el silencio se rompió. No fue el viento, sino un sonido rítmico y atronador: ¡Chap, chap, chap!. Eran remos, sin duda alguna pero para la pareja ese sonido era tan profundo que hacía vibrar el agua. De entre la niebla emergió una sombra colosal, una canoa del tamaño de una isla flotante tripulada por figuras que tocaban el cielo. El terror paralizó a la pareja; se creyeron muerto ya que esos seres podrían matarlos en segundos. Sin embargo, una voz resonó, no como un trueno de ira, sino con una calidez sorprendente.— (Hermanito mío, ¿a dónde vas?) —preguntó el líder de los gigantes, inclinándose hacia ellos.El pescador, con la voz temblorosa, confesó que estaban perdidos. El gigante sonrió, y en su rostro no había malicia, solo una bondad inmensa.—Venid con nosotros —dijo—. Mi padre es el jefe de nuestra raza y con seguridad seréis tratados como familia.Ante la mirada atónita de la pareja, dos de los gigantes deslizaron suavemente la punta de sus remos bajo la pequeña canoa y la levantaron del agua como si fuera una simple astilla de madera, depositándola dentro de su propia embarcación monstruosa. Los gigantes observaban a sus "pequeños amigos" con la misma fascinación y ternura con la que un niño humano miraría a una ardilla voladora encontrada en el bosque.Al llegar a tierra firme, la escala del mundo cambió. Tres (chozas ) se alzaban ante ellos, cada una de ellas era tan altas como montañas, y se perdían sus techos en las nubes bajas. De la choza central salió el Jefe Oscoon. Era más alto y anciano que los demás, con ojos que contenían siglos de sabiduría. Al ver a la pareja, su alegría fue genuina. Tomó la canoa en la palma de su mano, con el hombre y la mujer aún sentados dentro, y los llevó al interior de su hogar, colocándolos con suavidad y delicadeza en una de las esquina de la estructura, sabiendo que allí se sentirían  seguros y protegidos.La vida en la Tierra de los Gigantes era una maravilla constante. El Jefe Oscoon, consciente de la fragilidad de sus huéspedes, les servía comida con extremo cuidado. Un solo bocado de la mesa de un gigante era suficiente para alimentar a la pareja durante años, y cuando el jefe les hablaba, lo hacía en un susurro apenas audible para no romperles los tímpanos, ya que la voz original  habría sido un grito que se podría oír a cien millas de distancia.Sin embargo, incluso los gigantes tenían enemigos. Un día, Oscoon reunió a la pareja con semblante serio.—Se acerca una gran batalla —anunció—. El Chenoo, el monstruo de hielo del norte, vendrá en tres días.Para protegerlos, el jefe envolvió a la pareja en capa tras capa de pieles gruesas y les tapó los oídos, pues el grito de guerra del Chenoo era mortal para los mortales. After a long hiatus where we both saw grief counsellors over our fight about Popper's theory of content in the last C&R episode, we are back. And we're ready to play nice ... for about 30 seconds until Vaden admits that two sentences from Popper changed his mind about something Ben had arguing for literally years. But eventually putting those disagreements aside, we return to the subject at hand: The Conjectures and Refutations Series: Chapter 10: Truth, Rationality, and the Growth of Scientific Knowledge (Part II).
