Hello Hot Dogs! I've waited for this day for over 14 years: mix #100 is live. When I released my first mix in 2010, I titled it [001] instead of [01]. Using three digits was aspirational, a quiet promise to myself that I might one day reach triple digits. These mixes trace the narrative of my adult life. They've been the thread connecting me with so many of you—some I'll never meet, others who've become close friends (and even roommates—hi Dan, hi James). Back when I released my first mix in 2010, we were still buying mix CDs for our cars. Soundcloud was just emerging, and I committed to monthly releases to this new platform. I may be overreaching here, but I can't remember any other DJs presenting conceptual mixes, monthly, as packaged works of art: a conceptual title, description, and artwork. That consistency and novelty helped build a following outside of my local scene, and when my 2012 Robot Heart recording came out, things really took off internationally. By 2015, the momentum led me to leave my software engineering job for full-time DJing—largely thanks to these Soundcloud mixes. I was purely a DJ then with a nascent Manjumasi label formed with Mark Slee, not releasing my first original track “Peculiar Colors” until 2017. The landscape in 2024 looks different. As Soundcloud rotted to hell and Spotify rose, the value of mixes has sharply declined. With thousands released daily, they've become ubiquitous. The career path for electronic artists now revolves around original productions and social media presence. This industry evolution pushed me toward producing my own music, opening up new creative paths I'm grateful for. The social media aspect has felt natural, as it's been an integral part of my project from the start. These last few years, the touring schedule, studio time, and home life as a husband and father slowed me down from my monthly cadence, but each mix still feels like a deep-rooted part of my message to the world, (mostly) through other people's music. Mix [100] was recorded September 7, 2024, at Public Works in San Francisco, the city that "raised me" as a club kid, where I first learned to DJ. This 5-hour set marked my last show in North America before taking an indefinite mental health break from touring. Playing this set was emotional, to the point of tears in the DJ booth, with support pouring in from both new listeners and those who've been there since the beginning. I couldn't think of a better way to reach 100. I've also created http://www.atish100.com to house all my mixes and their 1,400+ tracklists in one place, which I'll keep updating as new mixes go up on Soundcloud and YouTube. This mix marks a meaningful milestone for me. Thank you for making this journey possible. You, and the 1400+ artists and labels I referenced helped create a life I never imagined.

This features a walk through some of the sounds that have caught my ear the last few months, touching on a few different styles and feelings. I had recently spent some time in Barcelona, observing terrazzo style flooring with shells set within polished concrete. Download: atish.lnk.to/texaseclipse I had the peaktime midnight slot with the honor of playing after Lee Burridge, so I started this one off with an organic vibe then transitioned through prog, tech-house, and just some straight up bangers. A few unreleased ID's in there from my boys Enamour , m.o.n.r.o.e and Saqib. Also funny moment: you may notice that the set just abruptly ends. That's because the next act accidentally unplugged the wrong cable from the mixer. Yet at the same time I find myself frequently caught in moments of nothingness. This mix does very little, and it also does a lot. Some of it's stripped, groove-focused, and lazy. But it transitions into something dense, complex, and anxious. My goal was to have each track reach a bit further than the last, leaving the listener to wonder where the hell we're all going. Happy to release a new mix today. This one is an hour clip from a longer recording posted on my Patreon page. When people ask what's my favorite place (outside Burning Man) to DJ, The Bow in Buenos Aires is always in my top 3. Argentinians have a passion for music that I haven't seen anywhere else in the world (and really a passion for just about everything). Most track breakdowns are met with huge cheers, and even when the night ends, the crowd refuses to go home as they hang around after 6am demanding more music. It's really a DJ's dream. Another thing I love about The Bow is that it's a 3000 person club, but the DJ booth is pretty low to the ground and within arm's reach of the audience. The club has the perfect blend of energy and intimacy that holds a dear place in my heart. This is a recording from my 2017 set at The Bow. Once this pandemic ends, I desperately hope to play there again. It's a bit on the driving side, but takes a couple turns towards the deeper side to balance it out. Hope you enjoy! 'Warbler' EP Available here: https://www.beatport.com/release/warbler/2773395 Number twenty on San Francisco's Manjumasi is the second solo artist EP from label co-founder atish. With the Warbler EP, atish presents a pair of original tracks that showcase strange and unique melodic stylings across two distinct energy levels, both featuring eerie and compelling string sounds with heavy use of creative effects. The title track, Warbler, has a solid late-night dance floor groove with a lush and haunting synth line anchoring the mid-range groove. Abyss takes things deeper, again veering into eerie sonic territories with vocal pads floating throughout the mix. This one sits in a more restrained rhythmic territory, well suited to the mood-setting opening hours. The package features three top-notch remixes from a collection of very serious producers. Sweden's Dorisburg turns in an incredibly heady interpretation of Abyss, with sparkling glassy pads juxtaposed against a bouncing synth bassline. Melodic master Rodriguez Jr. takes Warbler in a different direction, weaving the original elements into a tapestry of his signature arpeggios and synth crescendos. Lastly, Fort Romeau turns in an energetic Warbler mix, anchored by a long-building stabby bassline that develops into a real acid-tinged driver. Hi there. I had a great gig at Kater Blau a few weeks ago, so I'm sharing the more interesting part of my set with you. After writing up the tracklist I realized how this set is a mix of new and old. The first half hour is mostly tunes from 2006 to 2016. It wasn't something I intended. Usually on stage, I'm consciously thinking about sectioning my set by mood, intensity, BPM, and texture...but perhaps unconsciously I was also thinking about grouping music together by age...or maybe it was just a coincidence. Regardless, I now have a new way to think about building an arc of a set, which is kind of fun. I thought it all came together alright, so I hope you enjoy the recording as much as I enjoyed playing. I'm happy to release this new studio mix for you. I've been releasing mixes much less frequently these days - I used to be on a monthly cadence, but I started working on this mix in July. Counterintuitively, it gets increasingly harder for me to finish studio mixes, even though I think I'm a better mix-maker now. Sure, the newly added demands of touring, music production, event production, running a label, and home life all pull away from the time needed to complete a studio mix. But beyond that, I think there's a bit of an artist/curator's dilemma: the more resolute and refined I evolve in my taste, the harder it is to achieve satisfaction. Every track selection carries an increasingly large weight, every transition is held to a higher standard of detail, and more broadly, I constantly feel compelled to try to say something I haven't sonically said before. Otherwise, what's the point? I worked to build tension in the first half of this mix, much like stacking weights on a fragile plate of glass. Inevitably the glass breaks, and in this case, the ‘break' is a literal one with the 2nd half of the mix inspired by 2-step, drum n bass, and experimental broken beats spiraling out of control. I'm happy to release my recording from Sandbox Festival in Hurghada Egypt. I always love playing the Middle East. The sights, sounds, tastes, and smells are very different than my home, all of which represent one of my favorite aspects of DJing: getting enjoy the world's diversity. Beyond that, I've found that the people of the region are an incredibly friendly and passionate bunch, so playing a festival that attracts the heads from many across the region was special for me. The Sandbox mainstage was a big one - these stages are sometimes tricky for me as I feel pressured to go for the jugular and bang out a medley of big drops for those hands in the air moments, but I resisted the pressure and went instead for undulation between the deep moments building to the big ones while maintaining a steady groove through. Happy May, everyone! I'm pleased to share this new mix with you. These last few months, I've been working on observing the shift within my taste as a DJ, producer, and label head. I find that these moments of self reflection help move ambiguous implicit decisions to explicit artistic choices. This helps me move closer to operating with artistic fearlessness. I'm spending more time reaching outside the boxes I've been sitting in, while at the same time keeping a foot in the door as a nod to where I've come from. Hard to believe, but it's been a year and half since I released my last studio concept mix. I'm excited to break the streak and share this with you today. I've always considered these self-released studio mixes the backbone of my identity. They were the primary medium of artistic communication - from me to you - for many years. Of course, some live recordings and guest mixes were released along the way, but they're not quite the same as a self-released studio mix... mostly because these aren't bound by any aesthetic constraints (like the sound of a label, podcast, or responsiveness of a dance floor in the moment). These mixes are my most authentic voice. After taking a long break from the one thing that's been so fundamental to defining who I am, I thought deeply about what I wanted to say, which was a delightful challenge. How can I remain continuous from where I left off in August, 2017? At the same time, how can I avoid falling into the trap of doing what I've always done? After all, music has changed... you've changed... my taste has changed, but I'm still me. Or am I now someone else?
