Her “Nexus” EP was featured on the cover of Spotify's Electronic Rising playlist and she was chosen by Deezer to be a part of their DJ mix series, alongside house legend Kerri Chandler, Will Saul & Kompakt's Michael Mayer. Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! This week, thinking about getting a new car stereo deck was dancing in my mind. The one I bought a few years back doesn't play CDs anymore, but fortunately has an auxiliary plug to put my ipod or iphone into. I've been looking in the weekly electronic store flyers for months now, just eyeballing all the car decks- salivating. Dreaming of a cd player that works, the USB port to stick a USB stick full of house music into. The urge to drive to the electronics store and scoop one up was so strong, but know that it would be at least $220 when you include taxes and installation. Then the thought about how many mp3, 320bit house tracks I could buy for that money POPPED into my head, so I decided to live with my crappy car stereo (for now).This internal tug of war brought back a flood of memories to a time when my DJ Partner Jim and I were vinyl junkies to the extreme. We called it being addicted to "The Black Crack" (after the black colour of vinyl for those of you to never have seen vinyl before : ) There was a point where we were so addicted to buying house records, that when I saw something for let's say $35, I'd think to myself: 'but if I don't buy this, then I can buy TWO RECORDS!!'This sounds silly, but seems to be a man's version of frugality- choosing to not spend in one area in favour of another, but not saving any money. There are people who probably think, 'Hey, why do you guys still love house music so much?' You know, some guys dig sports or collecting something... that's just another money and time sucking hobby. We've chosen HOUSE as a hobby and are cool with that. The big difference is that this love can be shared with so many people and transfer those positive feelings.There is so much pleasure in the process for us, almost a monthly ritual... of hunting for tracks. Listening to them for a week or two, mixing them, listening, mixing them again, listening, then again, then sharing them and hoping that someone else likes the mix also.GOING BACK to the topic of being addicted to house back then. We went to endless number of parties, have over 400 mixed tapes & cds made by other house djs. We bought over 6000 vinyl records over the years and we stopped buying vinyl and switched to buying MP3's over 10yrs ago. And now have over 2000 house MP3 tracks. Burned through tape decks, needles (for turntables for the youth out there : ), mixers, 100s of cases of blank cassette tapes and over 8000 blank cds, whatever it was we needed- you name it. Compare to sports (if we were into sports), we would be the guys- shirtless and with full body paint jumping up and down like drunken idiots in the stand holding up crazy signs & stuff, buying sports related stuff, going to sports events, hanging out with other sports addicts, watching sports all the time and playing in men's leaugues 2-3x's per wk. We are the ultimate FANS!I tried to quit 'The Black Crack' three times and once for about 3years till I heard a DJ mix of new house that blew my mind. Now I know that we are here to stay. A) So for the mix idea, it was really simple for me. I just went through a part of my records collection to select few, but I had a big problem here. I selected too many records for 1 hour mix. So I decide to choose the one I loved to play back in the days. As you can notice in my selection, a lot of titles are coming from USA - Detroit, Chigago. I really was a big fan of the Detroit and USA sounds in the past, I was collecting all the releases from labels like UR, Planet E, Red Planet, Metroplex, Axis, Teknotika and many more. I was always captivated by some groovy and hypnotic tracks on a side, and on the other hand some tracks with some crazy melodies and deep atmospheres. It could be Deep House, House or Techno, even Electro I was addicted to and I´m still really eclectic. I love the music in general. Q) How would you describe the electronic music scene in Southern France – where you are living? A) So I´m living on the French Riviera in a city called Antibes, really close to Cannes and not to far at all from Nice. The scene used to be really big 15/20 years ago, but now we still have some good promotors and partys. And something which makes also the scene really cool is that we have many good locals deejays here, who are distilling some good music in pubs, bars, etc. Especially in the summer time the scene becomes busy, with some cool events on the beach for example. I´m resident of "Limelight" and "Le Bal Des Fous" which are the craziest events from may to september around here. And I have to admit that I love to play there - the crowd is amazing, the vibe is always positive and I can really play whatever I want any time. Q) Which Masseyeff releases are coming up next? A) I just made a remix for a Piemont track which has been released on the Super Flu’s label Monaberry and I´ve just launched a label with my good friend Oxia called Diversions Music, so my next releases will be on my own imprint by the end of the year. And then I´m also thinking to start working on a new album, because the "Motherland" was already released 5 years ago. So I think it is the right time for me to finish some ideas I have in my head.

Mëtël EkTõshi invite Kabaa Modern dans les Warm Up du Lion. Mais qui est Kabaa Modern ? Né en 1977 dans la ville d’Aberdeen en Écosse, Kabaa Modern (David de son vrai prénom), rencontre la musique électronique en 1990, Grace à des amis qui lui ramène des Cds de Jungle d’Angleterre et de Trance de Hollande, après sa 1ère soirée « Wake Up » au Rex en 1992, il prend la claque qui bouleversera le reste de sa vie, Grace à un certain « Laurent Garnier »… Et se décide à mixer, il devient alors résident moins d’un an plus tard au « Neo Club » à Paris au coté de Guy Ohm & Dr No, puis chemin faisant, il se fait une place dans le circuit Très fermé des raves parisiennes de l’époque. 3 ans plus tard, David décide de migrer sur la côte d’azur, au soleil, il prend alors ses quartiers à Cannes, oú il officiera dans divers clubs (La Fourmi Rouge, Le Bpm, l’Opéra, Le Disco 7, La Suite ou encore Le Vertigo et La Plage), et sous divers pseudos (Dj Mad, David Silver, Dynatech). Puis, il décide de partir à nouveau, et s’installe dans la ville d’Anvers en Belgique, oú il deviendra résident du Bozo Club et du Bar Room, lieux incontournable de la ville. 2002, David revient sur le côte d’azur, et se lie d’amitié avec les patrons de Zébra.3 Recording, avec lesquels il fera un bout de route, et continuera à distiller ses sets, allant de la Deep House la plus feutrée, à la Hard Tek la plus rugueuse, jouant aux côtés d’artistes prestigieux tels que Oxia, Joris Voorn, Paul Nazca, Da Fresh, Nicolas Masseyeff, Alex Millan, Laurent N., Anorak, Nick Nexx, Michel Spoon, Gary Brown, et bien d’autres, mixant dans des clubs réputé tels que Le Minimal (Juan Les Pins) ou encore La Loco ou Le Queen (Paris), tout en commençant à se mettre à la composition. 2007, il arrête de mixer et se retire de la scène locale pour se concentrer sur ses compositions et son travail en studio. 2009, les 1ères tracks apparaissent et Kabaa Modern voit le jour, ses productions reçoivent un Très bon acceuil et le soutien des Djs de diverses scènes et pays européens, qui les intègrent dans leur playlists sur divers show radio. 2011, sa musique rencontre un certain engouement, et David revient sur la scène électronique, avec son premier maxi « Love IS… » chez Monsieur Charles Productions Label. Dans le même temps, son premier remix pour A.D.E sorti sur Elliptic Records, rentre dans un « Top 100 Electro House » lors de sa première semaine, et son deuxième titre « Another Night With You » à été choisi pour figurer parmi les meilleurs morceaux de l’année 2011 sur le label Selected Records Madrid. 2012, Kabaa Modern enchaine les remixes pour de nombreux artistes comme Jarvis Kuhnen, Erik Hakansson, Ben Wachter, Rolf Raza, A.N.R, Southsoniks ou encore Normann, et compose également de la musique pour des défilés de mode, il signera d’ailleurs la B.O d’un court métrage prévu pour 2013, année qui s’annonce très encourageante et déjà bien engagé. And if you don't feel blessed right now, then know that without a doubt that He DOES LOVE YOU and hopefully you'll realise that someday. This week, thinking about getting a new car stereo deck was dancing in my mind. The one I bought a few years back doesn't play CDs anymore, but fortunately has an auxiliary plug to put my ipod or iphone into. I've been looking in the weekly electronic store flyers for months now, just eyeballing all the car decks- salivating. Dreaming of a cd player that works, the USB port to stick a USB stick full of house music into. The urge to drive to the electronics store and scoop one up was so strong, but know that it would be at least $220 when you include taxes and installation. Then the thought about how many mp3, 320bit house tracks I could buy for that money POPPED into my head, so I decided to live with my crappy car stereo (for now). This internal tug of war brought back a flood of memories to a time when my DJ Partner Jim and I were vinyl junkies to the extreme. We called it being addicted to "The Black Crack" (after the black colour of vinyl for those of you to never have seen vinyl before : ) There was a point where we were so addicted to buying house records, that when I saw something for let's say $35, I'd think to myself: 'but if I don't buy this, then I can buy TWO RECORDS!!' This sounds silly, but seems to be a man's version of frugality- choosing to not spend in one area in favour of another, but not saving any money. There are people who probably think, 'Hey, why do you guys still love house music so much?' You know, some guys dig sports or collecting something... that's just another money and time sucking hobby. We've chosen HOUSE as a hobby and are cool with that. The big difference is that this love can be shared with so many people and transfer those positive feelings. There is so much pleasure in the process for us, almost a monthly ritual... of hunting for tracks. Listening to them for a week or two, mixing them, listening, mixing them again, listening, then again, then sharing them and hoping that someone else likes the mix also. GOING BACK to the topic of being addicted to house back then. We went to endless number of parties, have over 400 mixed tapes & cds made by other house djs. We bought over 6000 vinyl records over the years and we stopped buying vinyl and switched to buying MP3's over 10yrs ago. And now have over 2000 house MP3 tracks. Burned through tape decks, needles (for turntables for the youth out there : ), mixers, 100s of cases of blank cassette tapes and over 8000 blank cds, whatever it was we needed- you name it. Compare to sports (if we were into sports), we would be the guys- shirtless and with full body paint jumping up and down like drunken idiots in the stand holding up crazy signs & stuff, buying sports related stuff, going to sports events, hanging out with other sports addicts, watching sports all the time and playing in men's leaugues 2-3x's per wk. We are the ultimate FANS! I tried to quit 'The Black Crack' three times and once for about 3years till I heard a DJ mix of new house that blew my mind. Now I know that we are here to stay. Just spent over 5hrs this week cruising over 1500traxs and hunting down 41 new tracks in www.Traxsource.com - excited about sharing the next mix with you!!
