An 18-year-old recruit shot and killed one of his instructors at a Self-Defense Force firing range in Gifu Wednesday morning. A special screening of Makoto Shinkai's hit animated film Suzume no Tojimari (2022) took place at the Civic Hall in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture last month, in the same place that also makes an appearance on-screen. And Tokyo-based artist Yuko Mohri to represent Japan at the 2024 Venice Biennale. Back in Tokyo, an Hibiya with its bronze statue of Godzilla is not far from Hibiya Park, opened in 1903 and once home to the state wire service Domei Tsushin, . The park today is a far cry from the Hibiya Riots which began in 1905. Yet at the same time I find myself frequently caught in moments of nothingness. This mix does very little, and it also does a lot. Some of it's stripped, groove-focused, and lazy. But it transitions into something dense, complex, and anxious. My goal was to have each track reach a bit further than the last, leaving the listener to wonder where the hell we're all going. Sign of the times, in many ways. Also happy to say this mix opens with a track from my upcoming collaboration EP with YokoO and another track from the release is a bit later in the mix. Born in Lahore, Haider Uppal has been receiving recognition by international artists and taste-maker record labels over his craft for the last couple of years. In the past, his originals have been put out on record labels such as Nie Wieder Schlafen, Dream Culture or Everything Will Be OK. His single Violet Woods, a co-production with Modulo out on Nie Wieder Schlafen last summer, is still buzzing through the Schirmchendrink headquarters. Recently, it was remixed by Berlin-based Soela. In the following months, Haider will be putting out his first EP, collaborations with veteran producer Luis Leon including a single alongside Luca Bacchetti remix, on Nie Wieder Schlafen. He's also the latest addition to YokoO's new imprint SATYA records and will be putting out music with him in the future. Edib D is Sarajevo based DJ / producer / promoter, as well as the manager of Trezor Club in Sarajevo. He was born at the beginning of the 80s of the 20th century in Travnik, Bosnia and Herzegovina. From his youngest days music becomes a sort of obsession and in the late 90s he had first contacts with electronic music popular back then. Soon, house and techno become the main choices of the music he is listening to and he started exploring the scene actively, showing up on gigs of well-known DJs in the country and the region. He experienced a breakthrough in 2014 when he started playing at the Sarajevo club "Pussy Galore". He quickly became a permanent member of the DJ crew who has performed in this famous club and his performances were becoming more and more popular. After closing the club in 2015, management of the "Pussy Galore" opened the “Silver & Smoke”, now already cult club, where Edib D becomes a resident. During 2018, Edib became a resident in Trezor Club in Sarajevo, as well as a resident DJ of Dream Catcher, magnificent club located in mountains in Montenegro. At the beggining of 2019 he started with management of Club Trezor. Edib D shared club & festival stages with Reinier Zonneveld, Moonwalk, Citizen Kain, Jiggler, Petar Dundov, Danny Howells, Cosmic Boys, Guy Mantzur, Danito & Athina, Sam Shure, YokoO, Patrice Baumel, Traumer, Quivver, Cid Inc., The Third Son, Eelke Kleijn, Chicola, Ray Okpara, Habischman, Dmitry Molosh, Javier Portilla, Dubfire, ANNA, AFFKT, Silicone Soul, Carlo Lio, Alberto Ruiz, Paolo Barbato, Miguel Bastida, Malden Tomic, Sinisa Tamamovic, etc. Edib also played in Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Austria. In 2017 he entered the world of production. On June 8, 2018, he released his first EP “Columbian Swing” for New York based label Hydrogen Inc. At the end of 2017, he formed the association “dance.more.sleep.later” with a group of friends, which aims to present high quality names from the world of electronic music. He strongly opposes classifying music by genres and subgenres and hates being asked what kind of music he listens to and plays. He plays everything - from house to techno - which fits in with the idea and vision of the set. He enjoys energetic, dancing music with lots of groove. This weeks special is a ride between deep house and deep tech, and, if you listen closely, you'll notice some Detroit and Chicago house influence. Yulia Niko's Mezcalita is an awesome groover that gets you started the right way on this monday! Quickly falling under the spell of House music, Yulia learned to DJ at the age of 15 and was soon a resident in Sochi, Russia, close to where she grew up. After getting her Law degree, Yulia relocated first to Greece, then New York, where she wrote two albums worth of material which ended up getting her signed to a number of labels. Her break out track, ‘Zurich’, was snapped up by Get Physical to widespread acclaim. No wonder she received a coveted ‘One to Watch’ from Mixmag the same year. In Berlin, where she currently lives, Yulia refocused her attention and wrote another brace of tracks, two of which were picked up by Damien Lazarus’ Rebellion imprint. Now signed to some impressive top-tier labels, Yulia’s studio craft was being recognised by an ever-growing army of high profile admirers including Dennis Ferrer, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, and many others who were playing and charting her music. Besides her incredible DJ and studio skills, Yulia has impressive business acumen. Setting up her first record label, TochnoTechno back in 2016 showed the tougher end of her musical palette and helped her understand the logistics of the business. With Libe Vibe, she is delivering her second label project, supporting young artists. It explores the relationship between the vibe and energy, a sonic experimentation that will bring new and old sounds together collectively. Her latest release, Manifesto EP, is out today on Watergate Records. It comes with three original releases and remixes by YokoO and/or Francesco Mami.
