Come on in! This pod is for avid Padre fans, fathers of young Padre fans, and anything in between. There's plenty of room on Slam Diego bandwagon. Join us before and after each series to learn stats, trivia and recap this unique season of the 2020 Slam Diego Padres!
Listeners of Brad & Steve Do Pods that love the show mention: content, great, padres fans.
Thank you Hil for the name suggestion. Nothing better than taking some guidance from a Padre fan, a voice that most of us grew up listening to and an amazing human being. We're back for season three and just like Covid, we're still hanging around! Listen to the new edition. We'll backfill the first 40 and get back into a rhythm. As always we're looking for interns and we're hear for the Padres!
The Padres have officially been eliminated from the playoffs and this season took a turn that we didn't predict (it wasn't the only prediction we got wrong). Good news is that 2022 is on the horizion, which means Sunshine and more is in our forecast. We break down what we got right and our FOUR BIG questions for 2022. All of our Friar Faithful out there, STAY POSITIVE & #StayHungryForMore!
The Padres got swept in LA, we don't speak of sweeps not in our favor. We currently sit halfway to a split with Giants and Nando is one HR shy of the 40-20 club. The Padres MUST take two of three from the Cards if not a sweep. Then we have 9 games left with the Giants and Dodgers and a series with the Braves + 1 inning of makeup baseball. The time has come for all the negativity to leave and lets stay positive and stay #HungryForMore and stay #HungryForTheWildCard!
The Padres a 44.4% chance of getting that final wild card spot, so we're rolling with the fours for this podcast. Since we last talked, Blake has been DOMINANT, Yu got his 1st win in 11 starts, Mark the Shark Melancon gets his 37th, and El Cajon's finest Joe Musgrove has been Mr. Consistent. What hasn't been consistent is our batting order or our bats. Highlights include, Nando hitting his 37th, Manny & Frazier starting to warm up. We scored 8 runs in 18 innings and they all came in one frame. We have a one game lead in the Wild Card, so for all you Friar Faithful out there, stay #HungryForMore and #StayHungryForTheWildCard!
With 31 games to go, the Padres are in need of a visit from Uncle Mo! We need to start this series in Arizona with an offensive outburst and pitchers that can go deep into the games. That will then need to be replicated for the remaining 28 games for the Padres to keep hope alive! We discuss what that looks like and how we can make that happen. Friar Faithful, stay positive & #StayHungryForMore and #StayHungryForTheWildCard!
One final break for the summer and a re-brand and "The Podres" are back to talk about our beloved baseball team here in San Diego. We have 36 games to get hot, 19 of them are with the Dodgers and Giants. Yes the Astros and Braves too. We took this off day to get a pod on the books and to discuss what the next 40 days needs to look like without Larry Rothschild. For all of our Friar Faithful out there let's stay positive and #HungryForMore #HungryForTheWildCard!
The Padres split the four game set with the Marlins, which is not the way we wanted to wrap the road trip, however, it's a series split and they got on a plane home afterwards. Adam Frazier is now a Padre and we didn't give up much to get him. We also are the only team in MLB that can now trot out 4 All Stars to start in our infield. There will be a few more trades that #InAJWeTrust pulls out, so for now all you Friar Faithful stay #HugryForMore and #TrustTheProcess!
The Padres start the ASG break with an offensive outburst, scoring 41 runs in 3 games; 24 in the 1st; 10 in the 2nd; and 7 in the 3rd. The Crone Zone hits for the 3rd cycle in Padres history and Pham almost follows suit in the same game! Wil Power flexes his SLAM Diego muscles and hits 3rd SLAM for the Padres since the streak started. We look to take a series win from Atlanta and then head to South Beach and hope we get the invite from Manny or Hosmer. For all the Friar Faithful, stay #HungryForMore!
With ASG5280 in the books, we now head to the back half of the season. We await to see what kind of magic AJ will pull off again. Is it a bat? Is it a pitcher? Is it both? We discuss our 2021 first four draft picks and we make predictions for who will win the NL West, # of wins, HR leader and NL & AL MVP. Enjoy the day off and stay #HungryForMore!
Welcome to SLAM DIEGO Daniel Camarena, the pride of Bonita. In what was the largest comeback in Padres history, the Padres storm back from being down 8-0 to get a walkoff win, 9-8 all powered by a Grand Slam from our very own Daniel Camarena. Nando is the youngest member of the 20-20 club by All Star break. He also has 28 HR's, Jake leads the league in games played at 29 and there's a shark sighting at the top of the majors in saves with 29. Enjoy the festivities in Coors and enjoy some Coors and stay #HungryForMore!
Padres wrap up a 9-1 homestand with highlights including Nando going Yardo 3 times in a game, for the first time in his career! Lamet & Snell hit the IL, Weathers gets recalled and speaking of weather the Padres learn what Rain Delays mean on their 2-1 road trip to Cincinnati. Last, but certainly not least, Big Flex Trent Grisham is now a permanent resident of the SLAM DIEGO Padres! As we head to the nation's capital and the city of brotherly love, stay #HungryForMore!
Welcome back to the pod Friar Faithful. For the first time in 13 years, the Padres sweep the Dodgers and are now 7-0 since "Opening Day" at Petco Park. The Crone Zone is en fuego, Manny is being Manny and making amazing plays in the infield and outfield and hitting bombs to boot. Kim is heating up as well and Victor is doing more than just catching for us. As we head into the weekend, the Padres look to sweep the Diamondbacks and complete a 10-game home stand undefeated. For all the Friar Faithful, stay #HungryForMore of our podcasts!
We sit 10 games above .500 and only 2.5 games back after a LONG 20 games in 20 days. We head to the Big Apple and hope to finish our seven games with the Mets in a better place than our last ten games! We need Grish back and we need some bats to get hot! So put on your rally caps, wash those shirts, change up routine, but stay #HungryForMore!
For the first time since 2009, the Padres go 9-0 at Petco Park. FTJ returns to SLAM DIEGO, Jake Rakes and the Crone Zone appears to be an impenetrable force field! Darvish continues to shine, Melancon leads the majors in saves, and the Padres lead the majors in the W column. As we post this, we're 9 outs away from a very good plane ride! For all the Friar Faithful out there let's stay #HungryForMore!
Two series sweeps for the Padres, the first was over the Cards, our first sweep of them in over a decade and the second was over the ROX, only giving up 1 run to them in three games. Profar, Mateo, FTJ & Hosmer are all back. Yu was dominant, Lamet got his 1st W of the season, FTJ 4-4 in his return, Pham, Kim and Manny all go yard and Jake Rakes an inside-the-parker in day baseball at Petco. We have an off day today, so rest up and stay #HungryForMore!
Slam Diego returns with Victor Caratini joining in on the fun, as his blast in the double-header and Manny's 5 RBI's in Tuesday's game are the real highlights of our eventful road trip to Denver. The bad news is that Covid got us and the Padres are without FTJ, Profar, Mateo, Myers and Hosmer for the next 10-14 days! The good news is we got another series win, we're over the 20 win mark, we're only two games back, still in second place and the Cardinals and Sunday Night Baseball await our return to Slam Diego. Until we talk again stay #HungryForMore!
We return from the 15-day IL with a longer than normal Pod to recap the last five series the Padres have had since our last pod. We touch on that amazing Dodgers series, briefly discuss the DBacks two game set, talk about taking series wins from the Pirates, and our two series agains the Giants! We are now caught up and sit two games behind those Giants as we head to Coors Field in Denver. We have a double-header today as yesterday's game got snowed out! The Padres will look to keep those bats hot from our last game in SF and our pitching will look to keep our league leading ERA in tact. For all the Friar Faithful out there let's stay #HungryForMore!
Not the three games we were looking for to get us to LA, however, we're 20 games into the season, only our second series lost and we sit firmly at .500! Joe Musgrove continues his dominance on the mound with a career-high 13 strikeouts, Jayce gets ejected for the first time, and the Padres bats went cold in preparation for our trip up north! Despite the sweep, it's important more than ever to stay #HungryForMore!
The first three games of this series didn't disappoint! We had an extra innings game, end with a starting infielder on the mound and a starting pitcher in the outfield. We had a catch, that only Mookie could make! And we got a W off the pitcher aside from all of their relievers that Padre fans dislike the most! Thankfully we get three games off from talking about the Dodgers and get to take a breath and get to see some familiar faces with the Brewers coming to town. Get some rest, but please stay #HungryforMore! Let's Go Slam Diego!
Our Padres return home from a successful 5-2 road trip and those boys in blue are coming down the 5, hopefully stuck in traffic! We lost back-to-back games for only the second time this year, but all of that doesn't matter as our 1st three-game set with the Dodgers is upon us. We've got three great pitching matchups for the weekend ahead at Petco! Hope to see Petco Park in Brown and Gold with very small blue elements. So while we await Ryan Weathers 1st career start and Snell's reunion with the Dodgers, for all the Friar Faithful out there stay #HungryForMore!
The wait is over! 8,205 games later, almost 19k days later, the Padres have their 1st No-Hitter in franchise history and it belongs to our very own Joe Musgrove! There's something about Arlington, Texas and Globelife Ballpark that the Padres love and all of our fans do as well! Our first series sweep, a 7-3 start, Kim's 1st homerun, just don't celebrate, Grisham's back and already has two HR's and Hosmer is staying hot. We head to Pittsburgh and we're indeed #HungryForMore! Let's Go Slam Diego!
In the first game of the Giants Series FTJ swung and missed at a pitch and crumbled to the ground and the collective sighs and silences around Slam Diego can still be felt. The Padres lost their first series of the year, however, are still 4-3 and only one game behind that ugly Dodger Blue! Tuca got his 1st hit and so did Blake Snell, who is not batting .500 on the year. We now turn our attention to our 1st road trip of the year and we return to Arlington, Texas where Slam Diego was born. For all you Friar Faithful, stay #HungryForMore!
The first place Padres start the season 3-1, with a great start from Eric Hosmer, who wants us to tell Phil Hughes, we're still nasty! Manny rocked some amazing cleats and went yard. Snell got his #4, and Wil Power still exists with the #5 on this back. Kim got his first hit and RBI and FTJ destroyed a baseball yesterday, hitting his longest homerun of his career 465 feet. First series is complete, but we're #HungryForMore, so we turn our attention to the Giants as they come to town for a three game set. Let's Go Slam Diego!
2021 Opening Day starts tomorrow at 1 PM PDT here in San Diego with the Padres taking on those snakes from the desert in the state next door. We are beyond excited to start the season! Yu Darvish takes the mound for the Padres and we only have a few of our players on the 10-Day IL. No Gore, but the Weather forecast is great to start the season! We announce some FTJ NFT news, along with Diamond Club and the '21 the Show. For all you Friar Faithful, LET'S GO SLAM DIEGO!
On our second episode of 2021, we discuss Trevor Bauer's one-eye open debacle from this past Saturday. The Padres getting by the Dodgers. Yu, Paddack, and Snell all looking good through Spring Training to date. We discuss Manny and FTJ taking a bunch of time off and whether or not we should look Pomeranz in the eye or not! Enjoy all you Friar Faitfhful and let's go Slam Diego!
Welcome back to the pod Friar Faithful. In our first episode of 2021, we'll attempt to wipe off the rust and dust off our mics! We have four games under our belts, two new aces, a South Korean stud, a shark in the bullpen and our first 441 foot FTJ SLAM to discuss, welcome back to SLAM DIEGO! There's still no "Sunshine" for 2021, but plenty of blue skies on the Horizon, so let's dive into some offseason news and notes and set the table for what should be 150+ games for all of us Friar Faithful!
So nice, we had to do it twice this week! Great to get back out in front of all of the Friar Faithful after another amazing trade for our SLAM DIEGO PADRES! The Padres acquired Yu Darvish & Victor Caratini and gave up Davies and four young prospects, but none of our Top 10! We look forward to an amazing 2021 with all of you after an a unique 2020! Thanks for the continued support and wishing all of our Friar Faithful out there a happy and healthy 2021! Till we pod again!
Happy Holidays to all of our Slam Diego Podcast fans out there. We got a late present on Monday, December 28th when the San Diego Padres traded with Tampa Bay for Blake Snell. We got quality and gave up some quantity! The Padres making news in the offseason and ending a lousy 2020 with a bang! To all the Friar Faithful out there, keep the faith and here's to counting down to Opening Day 2021! For the next podcast, Steve will have water and our interns will work on our pronounciation!
2020 Season is now complete and the Doyers are the WS champs. First time in 30+ years and now we have to listen to their fans until April about it. The NL West has won 4 of the last 9 World Series and let's not forget that the Padres brought back brown this year and made the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. The future is bright for us #FriarFaithful! Of note, the six times the Padres have made the playoffs, they were eliminated by the World Series champs in four of them. So there's that! We'll be back in the offseason, find us on Twitter and keep your heads, chins and dreams up until we pod again!
Here we are in late October doing a podcast, fall is in the air, and Game One of the World Series is tonight! The Doyers escaped the Braves and the PAD-RAYS finally shut the door on the Astros. So Game One goes in less than an hour, Kershaw vs. Glasnow. Both Renfroe & Margot will start for the Rays and hopefully Mookie Betts' glove has cooled off. We'll see all you Friar Faithful again in 5-7 games, based on Doyer behavior.
Cue the Boyz II Men "End of the Road" music now. The 2020 Brad & Steve Do Pods is still a low budget podcast so we actually can’t cue any music, however, now we have higher expectations now that we’ve shown some promise, just like you’re 2020 Slam Diego Padres. The future is bright and maybe we can add a music intern for 2021, but let’s first discuss game 3 and reflect on the season! We had a blast for these past few months and look forward to staying in contact with all the #FriarFaitfhul out there!
NLDS Game Three is less than two hours from first pitch and the last time the Padres were down 0-2 in a NLDS Series was 1984, and the Padres took three straight from the Cubs and went to the World Series. That would be an amazing finish, with basically one starting pitcher to get us through three games. Before we go down memory lane and age us out of the Podcast demo, let’s digest the last two NLDS games, the back-to-back HR's, the bat toss, the hat toss, the glove throw, the kiss and FTJ getting robbed!
Sunshine is in the forecast in Dallas today! Fantastic news! I know we are beyond excited as well as the entire Padres fanbase! Let’s not forget how excited Tatis, Machado and all the rest of the Padres probably are for this news as well. Unfortunately Lamet doesn’t make the roster though, so we'll see how this plays out over the next five days. NLDS Roster Hightlights: No Lamet, no Garcia, no Mateo, or Altavilla; Additions of OF Greg Allen (SDSU) & LHP Ryan Weathers (20 years old, #6 overall prospect, USD) + RAYS OF SUNSHINE. For all of us #FriarFaithful, enjoy today and it's time to #TakeTheCake!
For the first time in 22 years the Padres advance in the playoffs & let’s just say we’re moving a little more slow this Saturday due to some post-game celebrations! Crazy to think back to that ‘98 team with Tony Gwynn that had such an amazing run until they ran into a Yankee Dynasty team...but we finally got over that Cardinals hump and advanced. I don't think anyone of us will forget this feeling after Game 3 & the series win was amazing, but that second game of the set was a special one to watch for this team and all us #FriarFaithful! For the game three win it was the 1st time in ML history, Regular season or Playoffs, to complete a nine-inning shutout by using at least nine pitchers. Also our 1st postseason series for us since the 1998 NL Championship! Let's #TakeTheCake!
We just finished partying like it was ‘98 and we made the World Series...boy that win felt great! We live to fight again! This was the first Padres playoff win our kids have ever seen, and hopefully the first of many. This team is so young, so energetic and so fun. While there will be plenty of time to discuss the bright future let’s focus in on the Cardinals and what to expect for Game 3 tomorrow at 4 PM PST. Tatis and Myers make the history books, joining Ruth & Gehrig as the only two players to hit 2 HR's in the same playoff game since 1932! #FriarFaithful we #TakeTheCake and the mound at 4 PM PST tomorrow in meaningful ROCKTOBER baseball!
Fourteen long years and now less than two hours to go. Postseason baseball is finally back in San Diego and it's time to Take the Cake! #TakeTheCake Game one first pitch is less than two hours away. The Sheriff is ready to restore Law & Order here in San Diego and our stew is cold and ready to be served. Davies will get the ball on the bump tomorrow for Game Two. In the meantime, we celebrate International Podcast Day, with a Domestic Pod. #FriarFaithful Predictions for the Series: Brad: Pads in 2 (4-1 & 5-2) .... Steve: Pads in 2 (8-4 & 7-2)
We're 60 regular season games down and finished with 37 wins, enough to win any other division in the National League. Now we have to wait till 2 PM PST on Wednesday for our next game. Our playoff prediction of the Cardinals came true, so let's do a quick recap of our four game set with the Giants, which included us knocking them out of the playoffs and then we will get into some end of regular season stats and the the Wild Card round that awaits us on Wednesday!
Has Clevinger's elbow and his postseason sunset in San Diego? As we are waiting on Clevinger’s status for the postseason, we have to start the playoffs without an Ace. The key phrase is without an Ace, not our Ace, as Lamet can fill that roll and is arguably our best pitcher. We still are awaiting full clarification on when/if Clevinger will come back. We still like the trio of Lamet, Davies & Paddack to kick us off into the playoffs and then hope for the best. We'll tackle those ugly two games with the Angels and discuss the four games ahead with the Giants, while talking about playoff matchups.
Back in the Playoffs! For the first time since 2006 the San Diego Padres will be playing October baseball. This will also be the first time in history that the Slam Diego Padres will be playing playoff baseball. You have to somewhat believe our playoff pod is the reason they clinched this week, but first we'll focus on recaping the three game away series at home against the Mariners and the two games with the Angels after an off day Monday the 21st.
The Padres have nine games to go; 5 of them at home; 4 of them on the road; Uniquely we’re the home team for 2 of those 5 games here at Petco and we will be the home team for one in San Francisco. That's a bunch to digest, but for now, lets play that "what if" game and talk playoff scenarios. We'll dive into all rounds of the National League and possible World Series matchups.
That's a wrap on the regular season games with the Doyers. They take the regular-season series six games to four, but who's counting? We beat the nearly unbeatable Kershaw, Lamet strikes out 11 and the Padres strike them out 14 times total. We beat up their bullpen, and all with style thanks to Trent Grisham. However, those dudes from up north took the last two. Now, we'll turn to the Mariners on abonus pod tomorrow as they are now coming down south for our three game set. Thank you Friar Faithful for the support!
The Stage is set and it's all right in front of us Padres fans! We sit only 2.5 games back with three games at home against those Doyers we’ve been talking about. After two awful nights of sleep, we Sunday morning to some great news. First, the Doyers blew a three-run lead in the 9th and we started the morning three games back. THE BEST NEWS was Friday's positive Covid test from the Giants was a false positive and we had a Sunday double-header against the Giants to look forward to. Sunshine was on the mound in the first game for a gem, then a solid team effort in the second game for a quote regular baseball style game. Back-to-back series sweeps for the Padres. Guaranteed winning record for 2020 season and the third best record in all of baseball!
Bonus Pod today as Covid finally impacts the Padres in a major way, and while the most important thing is everyone staying safe & healthy, it still is a major bummer as the Pads were on a tear. Horrible news, but on the bright side it seems like the Giants caught it early and only 1 individual as of this recording. I actually thought we were going to be doing a bonus pod on how amazing this playoff bubble news is for the Padres.
Break out the broom sticks, that’s a sweep and a completion of our 10 games with the Rockies this year. Finished 7-3 against the Rockies in 2020, including finishing 6-1 in our last seven with them. We are 17-5 since the SLAM that started it all ...
Wil Myers brings Slam Diego back to the forefront of the sports world tonight. Slam Diego Padres hit their 7th Grand Slam of the season, Wil Myers’ second of the season goes to the right field porch, an opposite field shot. Slam Diego's offense delivers a much needed boost for Sunshine as they roll 14-5 over the Rockies!
Tatis Jr with a two run shot, his 15th and a great bat flip/drop. Rosenthal with the save to help win the rubber match against the A's sets us up for a strong pod today. We'll tackle the three games in Oakland in the heat, the return to Petco and what lies ahead for the beginning of a 10-game home stand. We unpack the Rockies and look at the five games that seperates us from that team up north!
In our first episode Steve & Brad introduce you to the Slam Diego Podcast. We'll discuss the recent series against the Angels. We take a look ahead to the series in Oakland with A's. We cover the recent trade deadline moves. We look at MVP & ROY race updates. We touch on the remainder of the season and catching up to the Doyers!
