Then they discuss the MVP races (with an emphasis on Pete Crow-Armstrong’s status as the NL frontrunner over Shohei Ohtani), the Nationals and Red Sox swapping Curtis Mead and Connelly Early, a Kerry Wood trick pitch, John Kruk’s Sunday Night Baseball attire, teams’ tendency to covet Tarik Skubal vs. their reluctance to trade top prospects for rental players, and the biggest pre-deadline positional strengths for non-contenders and positional weaknesses for contenders. Jason Benetti returns to Is This A Great Game, Or What?, and this time he has another impressive title to add to his résumé: host of Sunday Night Baseball on NBC. Alongside his role as the Detroit Tigers' play-by-play broadcaster, Jason is now taking his talents to a national audience every week, and we couldn't be happier for one of the best in the business. That said... we don't spend much time talking baseball. Instead, we dive into Jason's marching band days (yes, he played the tuba), his love of trivia and game shows, and how those passions helped shape him into the broadcaster he is today. Then, somehow, Yellowcard enters the conversation—and if you know this podcast, you know things go off the rails in all the right ways. Former guest Kevin Brown joins the conversation as we look back on their days together in Minor League Baseball. We also swap stories about Bill Walton, Roger Clemens, and John Kruk, making for another unforgettable conversation with this future (one-day) Hall of Fame broadcaster. Thanks for watching or listening, and as always, thanks for being a part of our family!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Munaf Manji talks betting for Monday. A new week of baseball betting opens with a full breakdown of the Monday MLB card, starting with a look back at a tough finish to last week when a Diamondbacks team total fell one run short, and rolling into a heavy dose of Sunday scoring across the league that set up several of Monday's angles, including a detailed look at how teams coming off Sunday Night Baseball perform in their next game on the road, a trend that has favored the over at a rate above seventy percent across multiple seasons and puts a red hot Phillies offense in a fascinating spot against a Miami Marlins team that has dropped twelve straight games, with Zach Wheeler's dominant season and long track record against Miami weighed against Tyler Phillips and his much stronger home numbers, landing on a total rather than a side. From there the card moves to Pittsburgh, where a shaky Merrill Kelly has quietly turned things around over his last four outings while Mitch Keller continues to struggle at home and at night, pointing toward a first five innings total with an eye on rain chances around first pitch. The headline matchup of the day sends Max Scherzer back to the mound for Toronto after more than a month and a half on the injured list, and his rough underlying numbers this season, paired with a well worn trend of fading pitchers fresh off the injured list and a Washington offense that just put up double digit runs, form the basis of the day's featured best bet on the Nationals team total. Atlanta and New York also get a full look, with Ronald Acuna Jr still working back from a leg issue and Juan Soto sidelined for a month or more, while Mets starter Zach Thornton has quietly turned in one of the best individual seasons in the rotation despite getting almost no run support, setting up a first five innings lean toward New York. Out west, Houston and the Angels both trot out starters who have battled control issues all year, suggesting a game that could be decided by which lineup stays patient and draws walks rather than which arm dominates, with a lean toward the total and a slight preference for the home side. A quick tour through the rest of the schedule touches on a heavy favorite in Cincinnati, the Yankees rolling into Chicago as a big favorite, and matchups on the west coast rounding out the night, before closing with a reminder about a football season ticket package covering every pick through the Super Bowl and National Championship for a flat price using a promo code. The episode wraps with the day's single best bet, a team total angle built on a struggling former ace returning from injury and an offense trending in the right direction, delivered in the same straightforward, numbers first style that runs through the rest of the breakdown, mixing pitcher splits, home and road trends, and situational betting angles into one complete rundown of everything worth knowing before locking in a Monday ticket. Today, Sean Fitzgerald will be dissecting the current State of MLB.It's been an interesting year in Major League Baseball, specifically in the American League, where heading into July, only five teams were above the .500 mark and one of those teams were … The Chicago White Sox, a team who two years ago won a grand total of 41 games. The last few seasons have seen major rule changes to impact the pace of play. This year, the MLB instituted an automatic ball-strike, or abs, challenge system, where teams could challenge pitches they thought were called wrong by the umpire. Each team gets two challenges per game through nine innings (one in extra innings), and if they win their challenge, they retain it.This year also saw the introduction of MLB's new media rights deal, which see's Netflix take over Opening Night and the Home Run Derby, NBC acquiring Sunday Night Baseball and the Wild Card Round from ESPN to broadcast MLB for the first time since 2000 (excluding Peacock's return in 2022). The elephant in the room is the impending collective bargaining agreement that is set to expire following the 2026 MLB season. There is a push from owners to implement a salary floor and a salary cap, something players have vehemently pushed back against, setting up a potential lockout and the possibility of baseball not being played in 2027, especially if the World Series is once again won by the Los Angeles Dodgers for the third straight year, the team who currently has the best record in the sport.Brandon's World is in collaboration with Voltage Live, Founded in 2021, Voltage Live aims to bring a diverse set of content to people around the world.Check out Voltage Live: https://voltagelive.com/Check out Brandon on Championship Rings, a debate show on YouTube where Brandon and Josh Ungar debate the latest happenings in sports and professional wrestling, every Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET: https://www.youtube.com/@ChampionshipRings216Brandon's World Links:Follow the show on X: https://x.com/real_bworldFollow Brandon on X: https://x.com/brandonlewis_7Follow Brandon on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lewisbrandon25/Follow Brandon on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@real_bworldFollow Brandon on Substack: https://substack.com/profile/85177727-brandon-lewisSubscribe to the show on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOAJ-oar5uDLFKlL1rs6CwQ

Episode 633: Another Red Sox Sweep?? The Red Sox flatten the Angels in all three games to breathe life into what seemed like a dead season. The guys start off hot with talk about how dreadful 9:30 PM Sunday night baseball games are, as well as the Tooth Fairy and Baby Kane's second birthday. Tyler pulls out the dustiest frame anyone's ever seen before being asked to eulogize Triston Casas' season and, potentially, his Red Sox career. The crew gives credit to Craig Breslow's successful offseason additions and discusses a seemingly recurring injury plaguing hitters. Aroldis Chapman closed the door on the third game as the guys chat about Sonny Gray's All-Star chances and bask in the glory of the 76-degree Red Sox. The series didn't pass without a setback, though, as Ranger Suarez was pulled from his start with a groin injury that the guys react to live. Episode 627: A series win for the Red Sox feels like a confusing process in 2026. Stories about the Sox have given the guys plenty of news to react to, and the latest batch continues to highlight just how dysfunctional the front office has become. Ian tells us about his weekend and he had a great time at Cheney Stadium watching the Rainiers. He pays tribute to what Tacoma does to create an awesome environment for the fans. The Mariners are inconsistent, which might be their best attribute right now. There is a net positive from getting guys healthy, but the lack of offensive production throughout the Padres sweep in Seattle is troubling. The AL West allows the Mariners to sleepwalk through this division, so that's good news - but they need to get it going. The NFL schedule is out, and Ian is wondering why the league even doesn't know why they bother doing a huge show on the NFL Network when the leaks let us know what games will happen. Ian tells you what he thinks about the matchups and dates we see on the Seahawks' schedule. The NFL made some good decisions when it comes to primetime.12:45 - Ian likes the changeup with NBC/Peacock doing Sunday Night Baseball. However, he takes issues with some points made. Mollywhop Monday! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join to breakdown the Mariners getting swept by the Padres this weekend. How fair is the criticism toward Dan Wilson right now? Chris has plenty to say about it right now but also doesn't think the team will make a change right now. Chris says he would consider it because Wilson isn't making them better right now. Nathan brings up all the positive things we're seeing at the plate and in the field, and despite the losses we're seeing, there's plenty to be happy about. Nathan also weighs in on Dan Wilson. There are plenty of stats that back up the poor performance of Wilson as a manager. Chris and Nathan discuss the handling of Cal Raleigh's injury and what that looks like moving forward. Mollywhop finishes off to discuss Colt Emmerson and what the realistic expectations for him as he just recently got called up. They preview the series with the White Sox. Ian wraps up our Mollywhop conversation and doesn't like to call for people's jobs, but this is going to be a serious series for Dan Wilson with the White Sox. The team can't scuffle right now, but it's not necessarily all on Dan Wilson. Aaron Rai wins the PGA Championship, and Ian pays tribute to what he did this weekend, as well as what his family did for him growing up. Ian finally gets to break down the Seahawks schedule as it was released last week. He takes issue with the fact they're ending their season for the third straight year on back-to-back road games. We check in on the talkbacks and texts and finally, talk to Softy!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Ben Lindbergh and Meg Rowley banter about Vinnie Pasquantino’s new espresso machine, how the Phillies’ firing of Rob Thomson compares to Boston’s coaching overhaul and how Thomson’s dismissal both does and doesn’t make sense, Mason Miller’s “slump,” Shohei Ohtani’s WAR distribution, Max Scherzer’s major league last gasp, Travis Bazzana’s debut, and how the Mexican League’s Diablos Rojos have handled high altitude. On Tuesday night, Shohei Ohtani started his first game for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season and appeared to already be in midseason form.
