Episode 169 of Tablesetters is LIVE! We open with Cristopher Sánchez breaking Grover Alexander's 115-year-old Phillies franchise record with a 44 2/3 inning scoreless streak and discuss where his dominant run now stands among baseball's best pitching stretches in recent years. From there, we break down the Cubs becoming only the second AL/NL team ever to record two 10-game winning streaks and a 10-game losing streak in the same season despite their win today, Houston's combined no-hitter led by Tatsuya Imai and MLB debutant Alimber Santa, and Nick Kurtz's 48-game on-base streak finally coming to an end. We also discuss whether Carlos Mendoza is becoming the face of the Mets' collapse, Munetaka Murakami's legitimate AL MVP case after surpassing the rookie pre-June home run record, and baseball's growing “let the kids play” culture clash after the Brewers and Giants' viral celebration controversies. Plus, Sub-2 ERA crew talk, red-hot and ice-cold players of the week, polls, debates, and everything else happening across Major League Baseball.
Over the weekend, the Houston Astros pitched the first no-hitter since the 2024 season against their state rivals, the Texas Rangers. While the combined no-hitter thrown by Tatsuya Imai, Steven Okert, and — in his MLB debut — Alimber Santa was the fifth in franchise history, we're left wondering why there was so little buzz surrounding the now-rare occurrence. On this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jordan Shusterman is joined by Shea Station podcast host Jolly Olive to talk about the feat by the three Astros pitchers, including whether the no-hitter has lost its luster, why Houston might finally be figuring things out and why Santa's debut can be tied to a feat last accomplished in 1892. They then discuss the other side of the no-hitter by taking a look at the offensive problems the Rangers have had this season. Later, Jordan and Jolly draft the most disappointing teams so far this season, with the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, and Boston Red Sox among the teams selected. They also dive into the Chicago Cubs' rough 10-game losing streak, Abner Uribe's controversial post-save antics and preview everything you need to know about the Women's College World Series, which starts Thursday. 2:33 - The Opener: Astros throw first no-no of 2026 18:12 - Field Report: Cubs' losing streak hits 10 26:53 - Disappointing team draft 52:28 - We Need To Talk About: Uribe's antics 57:23 - Women's College World Series preview Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

The Houston Astros had three pitchers combine to throw the first no-hitter of the season. Does it mean you can now trust Tatsuya Imai? Corey Pieper breaks down the top injury news, studs and duds, the Bullpen Report segment, and the FanDuel Bet of the Day. On the injury front, the White Sox designated Jarred Kelenic for assignment to pave the way for Nishida, while the Blue Jays officially placed ace Dylan Cease on the 15-day IL with a hamstring strain and hold Vladimir Guerrero Jr. out with elbow soreness. Meanwhile, Cole Ragans has been shut down for 2-3 days. In studs and duds, Jacob Misiorowski put on a masterclass by striking out 12 over seven frames, and Colton Cowser hit a walk-off home run for the second consecutive day. Conversely, Tanner Bibee got completely annihilated for seven earned runs while surrendering an egregious five home runs. For the Bullpen Report, we sort through a chaotic closing landscape across the league, analyzing the shifting high-leverage roles for Gregory Soto in Pittsburgh, Nate Pearson in Houston, and the continuous save rotation of Jeff Hoffman and Louis Varland in Toronto.
