I had plans for this season to focus on Women's mental health issues however I feel that we are all experiencing ‘collective trauma' and right now we all need our experiences and stories to be heard and felt.     Mentally Healthy Mummy, Aman Soomal

    Aman Soomal is a qualified psychotherapist, specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, with a focus on perinatal mental health. She goes by the 'Mentally Healthy Mummy' and regularly shares snippets from her journey about motherhood from a therapist's perspective. In this episode, we discuss getting into our respective roles within mental health in the NHS, as South Asian women. Whilst we have taken different routes into the field (with Aman working as a CBT therapist with over ten years' of experience), we both have shared experiences of our visibility. Going through the clinical training process has meant we had assimilated in certain ways, felt starkly visible in interview settings and suffered a loss of our identity. The journey into clinical training holds obstacles subtly painted by the colour of our skin, which can lead to some of us having imposter syndrome or that we are not in control of our brownness. This episode will explore us almost losing but ultimately seizing back control.
