In this episode we get into the fear that hits almost every ACLer in the weeks after surgery, the quiet worry that one wrong step, one weird zing, one slip in the shower could undo everything. We share a message from a listener that fueled this episode, and we walk through the real moments so many people have panicked over, from a dog running into the knee to losing balance on crutches, and we also put numbers to the graft to help you understand why you might be more resilient than you think. How do you give difficult feedback without damaging trust?Katie O'Brien Ceccarini, author of Fearless Feedback: Everything Managers Have Never Been Taught About Feedback and founder of Endurance Management Coaching, brings two decades of experience leading, managing, and training teams. She shares how leaders can prepare for hard conversations, navigate emotional reactions, and say what needs to be said while preserving the relationship.Katie explains that fearless feedback starts before we ever choose the right words. It begins with our mindset, the strength of the relationship, and the intention we bring into the conversation. When we believe in the other person's ability to grow, we are more likely to communicate with conviction, clarity, and care. She also shows us how to stay present when feedback brings up defensiveness, emotion, silence, or resistance. Instead of reacting to what we see on the surface, we can get curious about what may be happening underneath. We can acknowledge someone's experience without abandoning the message, and we can refocus the conversation without turning it into a debate. When we strengthen our mindset, relationships, and delivery, we can give feedback with greater courage, build trust through difficult moments, and create conversations that help people grow.Key Takeaways:Prepare Your Mindset for Feedback: Explore how the beliefs you bring into a conversation can shape how your message is received.Strengthen the Relationship First: Consider how trust and safety can create a stronger foundation for honest feedback.Open the Conversation Well: Discover how a thoughtful headline can make difficult feedback easier to hear and engage with.Navigate Difficult Reactions: Examine how the HEAR framework can help you respond when feedback triggers defensiveness, emotion, or resistance.Make a Better Second Choice: Learn how noticing your first reaction can help you approach challenging feedback conversations with greater courage.Resources MentionedThe Inspire Your Team to Greatness assessment (the Courage Assessment) - In less than 10 minutes, find out where you're empowering and inadvertently kills productivity, and get a custom report that will tell you step by step what you need to have your team get more done. The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania says the graves of founding President Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe, his wife Veronica and their son have been vandalised more than six times. The latest incident involved damage to Sobukwe's grave itself in Graaff-Reinet, now renamed Robert Sobukwe Town. The PAC says the attacks go beyond ordinary crime and appear to be a deliberate attempt to disrupt community dialogue and reignite tensions. Police are yet to confirm any arrests in connection with the repeated desecration. We spoke to Apa Pooe, Secretary General of the Pan Africanist Congress.

The neuroscience behind why willpower fails — and what actually works instead Productivity improvement isn't about forcing focus, it's about alignment. Tracy Brinkmann explores the neuroscience of why willpower-driven focus damages your brain and destroys real productivity. Discover how flow states, natural cognitive alignment, and authentic success mindset create sustainable results. Perfect for entrepreneurs tired of hustle culture shortcuts. https://YourSuccessDNA.com https://DarkHorseEntrepreneur.com Tracy argues that struggling to force yourself to work isn't laziness but a neurochemical warning sign of misalignment. It explains that forced focus activates the anterior cingulate cortex (conflict detection), dysregulates dopamine and destabilizes norepinephrine (and acetylcholine), and can intensify default mode network activity, leading to mind-wandering, depletion, and decision fatigue. The host critiques productivity hacks like Pomodoro when used on purpose-conflicting tasks, claiming they can train the brain to associate focus with internal conflict. The alternative is aligned focus, which reduces internal conflict, stabilizes attention chemistry, and enables flow. Listeners are urged to ask three alignment questions before pushing through, distinguish protective resistance from fear-based avoidance, and complete a writing prompt: “The task I keep avoiding is avoiding me because ____.” 00:00 Forced Focus Myth 00:52 Willpower vs Brain 01:15 Conflict Alarm System 02:10 Ego Depletion Chemistry 03:59 Default Mode Rebellion 04:45 Aligned Focus Flow 05:56 Alignment Over Hacks 07:06 Decision Fatigue Spiral 08:44 Three Alignment Questions 10:40 Meaningful Work Triad 13:23 Discern Resistance Types 15:48 Whiskered Wisdom 17:17 Final Takeaway Focus, why cant I focus, procrastination, how to stop procrastinating, neuroscience of focus, forced focus, flow state, what is flow state, burnout symptoms, dopamine, how to increase dopamine naturally, productivity tips, decision fatigue, how to align your goals, authentic success habits, entrepreneurial success habits, habits for success, habits improvement, mindset habits, mindset success, self improvement mindset, success mindset habits, productivity improvement, productivity habits, authentic success habits Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In Episode #112 of The Executive Commute, Jayson Krause is joined by experienced entrepreneur, former CEO, and TEC Canada Chair Mark Terrill for a candid conversation about transparency in leadership. They explore why transparency is essential for building trust, particularly during difficult periods, and why employees create their own explanations when leaders fail to communicate clearly. Mark also explains why effective transparency does not mean sharing everything. Leaders must balance openness with confidentiality, timing, focus, and empathy. When handled poorly, transparency can become oversharing, venting, or an overload of information that creates more fear than alignment. This episode will challenge you to consider what your team needs to hear, what you may be withholding, and how more intentional communication could strengthen your leadership. Do you ever notice that scrolling never actually leaves you satisfied? Fr Columba unpacks why the infinite scroll is built that way on purpose, always teasing, never filling, and contrasts it with what heaven actually offers: God's full, undistracted attention and a satisfaction that lasts. Hell wants to use you and sell your attention. Heaven wants to give itself to you completely. If you've ever felt stuck in the scroll, this is an invitation to notice it, hit pause, and choose contemplation instead.

Running lash salons since 2016 teaches you one thing fast: the look a client asks for and the look her natural lashes can carry are rarely the same thing. In this episode, Mike and Shauna walk through how they close that gap without losing the client, from the consultation question that prevents a set someone secretly hates, to why they refuse the words "thin" and "damaged" at the station, to the rare cases where the honest answer is no. Practical, salon-tested guidance on consultations, natural lash health, and managing expectations for lash artists at any level.
“Speak your truth” sounds like the most honest thing you can do. But it's not. Your truth is your perspective. It is what is real within your current awareness. And when you hold it like a fact, like the final word on what happened or who your partner is, there is nowhere left for the conversation to go.I heard a quote about ten years ago that I have never forgotten. Honesty changes with one's awareness. The truth is always the same. That is the distinction. In this episode:* Understand why speaking your truth can actually shut a conversation down before it has a chance to go anywhere* Recognize the three ways it quietly breaks relational communication without you realizing it* Learn Terry Real's feedback wheel, a four-step tool for sharing what you feel and what you need without putting your partner on the defenseYour partner cannot meet you in a conversation you have already closed. If this one landed and you want support bringing this into your relationship, I work with couples on exactly this. Are today's teens experiencing a true mental health crisis—or are parents being encouraged to label normal adolescent struggles as disorders? In this thought-provoking episode of the Parenting Teens with Dr. Cam Podcast, adolescent psychologist sits down with renowned child and adolescent psychiatrist, author of Searching for Normal, to unpack the rising diagnoses of ADHD, anxiety, depression, and autism in teens. Parents today are overwhelmed trying to determine when teenage mood swings, defiance, anxiety, and emotional outbursts are “normal” and when they signal something more serious. Dr. Timimi challenges the growing trend of pathologizing ordinary adolescent behavior and explains why over-labeling teens may actually hurt resilience, confidence, and emotional growth. If you're worried about your teen's mental health, struggling with constant conflict, or wondering whether therapy, medication, or diagnosis is the right next step, this episode offers a refreshing and deeply practical perspective. Learn how to support your teen without overreacting, how to identify true mental health red flags, and why strengthening your relationship with your teen may be more powerful than trying to “fix” them. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE How to tell the difference between normal teenage behavior and serious mental health concerns Why anxiety, moodiness, and teen defiance are often part of healthy adolescent development The hidden dangers of over-diagnosing ADHD, anxiety, and depression in teenagers How parents can build resilient, emotionally healthy teens without overprotecting or over-controlling
Oreti Beach is one of Southland's most iconic stretches of coastline, 26 kilometres in length, the bay lies between the town of Riverton and the outflow of the Aparima River. Records that still stand to this day But now there's a growing debate about its future, with locals calling for the beach to be closed at night because of dangerous driving, fires, vandalism and other antisocial behaviour. Local Joyce Kolk joins us to explain what's going on.

Construction crews working on the wall on the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona significantly damaged a 1,000-year-old geoglyph located in Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge. It’s one of a number of places tribes on both sides of the border say are damaged or are threatened by the fast-tracked construction process. Tribal leaders say such desecration is happening at a record pace after the Trump administration sidelined cultural and environmental barriers to construction. We'll hear from cultural historians and policy experts about that is being lost and what can be done about it. GUESTS Emily Burgueno (Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel), chairwoman of the Kumeyaay Diegueño Land Conservancy David Martinez (Akimel O’odham, Hia-Ced O’odham and Mexican), professor of American Indian Studies and Transborder Studies and director and founder of the Institute for Transborder Indigenous Nations at Arizona State University Christina Leza (Yoeme and Chicana), professor of anthropology at Colorado College Felicity Amaya Schaeffer, professor of feminist studies, critical race and ethnic Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz

Most of us here at Fratello love vintage watches, but not all of us are comfortable buying and wearing them. Do you wear it, or do you spare it? Damaging a vintage watch can be expensive, but it might also just feel wrong to wear it daily. Can it withstand today's abuse? Is it still water resistant enough? How about shocks? In this week's installment of Fratello Talks, RJ, Max, and Daan discuss whether they wear or spare their (neo-)vintage watches.

Because it was never just about how much you eat. It's about where that fiber is actually fermenting in your colon. Dr. Karan Rajan is a surgeon, gut health expert, and one of the most followed doctors on the internet. He spent years operating on colon cancers and bowel disease before realizing the most powerful thing he could do was hand people the information they were never given. In this conversation he breaks down the gut in a way that will make you want to reorganize your entire kitchen by the time it's over. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why the old soluble vs insoluble fiber model is outdated and what fermentation geography actually means — and how eating only one type of fiber can cause gas and bloating even when you're hitting your daily target • Why the protein obsession sweeping wellness culture may be quietly turning your gut bacteria into gremlins, and what happens when your microbes run out of fiber to eat • How your microbiome can begin to change within 48 hours of increasing fiber intake, and the exact ramp up strategy Dr. Karan uses to avoid the gas and bloating that makes most people quit If you have a gut, this episode is for you. For this episode, let's revisit a Case Interview & Management Consulting classic where we speak about resume cliches across firms. Editing out cliches from Deloitte and Accenture resumes tends to take up the majority of time when we work with candidates from these firms, and the other accounting firms like PWC, E&Y and KPMG. Typically, when we start the editing sessions, it is very difficult for the client to see how vague and misleading their resume really is. This podcast explains this concept and can be used to edit your own resume.
