Email him at ALMartin@utmck.edu or call 865-305-5340______________________Doug's family was my (Vik) surrogate family during tough teen times. We have been through many trials, happy times outweighing them all as our unconventional senses of humor melded together like a light and warmth. We met in 7th grade at Farragut Middle School at the after-school-bus-loading-zone. He was herding cats, I was meowing the loudest, we heard the call to friendship, and it never ceased. High School was a proving ground as much as a training laboratory for the future. Competitions only served to help us see our inner strengths and their channels. It was a blast. In December of 1988, Doug married his sweetheart Kelly, and two weeks later moved into a community to serve and live alongside people struggling with chronic addictions and lifelong homelessness. His time there created a longing for cultivating community. Over the years, he had the privilege of serving and learning from Baptists, Charismatics, Roman Catholics, Quakers, house churches, Presbyterians, and finally Anglicans. In the Anglican Communion, he found a home that embraced a love for the rich tapestry of God's people from these various traditions: a community extending in space and time. With the blessing of Apostles Anglican, St. Brendan's Church has been sent out to serve in Maryville, TN. Returning to serve in the place where they started.Inspired by Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, I sometimes think of our journey with God's people as a “circle of friends on pilgrimage for the love of God.” We walk through life on our way to the holy city. Along the way, we live out and tell our stories: these stories are sometimes sad, funny, irreverent, and poignant. Ultimately they are doxological taken up into worship of God the Father, through Son, by the Spirit. In this episode we refer to these linked places:https://stbrendanschurch.org/https://www.regent.edu/https://www.magician.org/https://psalters.bandcamp.com/music(PER the podcast details: Reunion Tickets can be sent to POB 17034 Nashville, TN 37217) for your old schoolers.
