After a successful career in film, television, and journalism in Washington, DC, Bill made a career change, becoming a successful financial advisor in the Midwest. In this new role, he tried using this then-new thing called email to stay connected with his widespread staff. To get them to regularly check their mail, he started sending out a "Thought for the Day." And it worked even better than he expected. Clients learned about the daily email and asked to be included on the list, and it just kept growing. For over 20 years, Bill Williams has been spreading joy and wisdom through his daily email series, A Thought for the Day. From managing a sales team to inspiring audiences worldwide, his collection of humorous and thought-provoking stories has connected people across generations and continents. Now, after twenty years and thousands of "thoughts" later, he is making these missives available in this series of books. He is the author of "20 Years of Internet Humor: Volume One and Other Interesting Things." https://www.internet-humor.com/http://www.yourlotandparcel.org

Subscribers can enjoy exclusive, extended conversations from this podcast. To subscribe, go to BumpInTheRoad.Substack.com Bill Williams spent over two decades in broadcasting, running his own communications consulting and publishing company in Washington D.C. His entrepreneurial spirit kicked in when he developed the "Interstate Travelers Guides," a project that was once voted the best business plan of 1984. However, the stock market crash and the arrival of GPS technology brought an end to that dream. Next Bill went into insurance. One of his biggest hurdles was getting his agents to simply read their emails. So he started ending out a daily "Thought for the Day" filled with humor and inspiration. “Thought for theDay” grew into a massive international email list. The humor enjoyed by those list recipients is now in book form: "" Bill's story reminds us that while change is inevitable, it can lead to unexpected opportunities and growth. And he reminds us, along the way, to smile. What they're saying: “This is a beautiful book about life, its imperfections, its challenges, and its joys. It is a book of hope and wisdom for all of us facing a bump in the road.” –Pragito Dove “Pat has woven together beautiful stories of life setbacks that have been transformed into spiritual growth. This book is a gift and a must-read for souls experiencing pain and yearning for growth.” –Gary Hensel Learn more at Follow Bump on: ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ ➡️

Today's young people are navigating a sexual landscape unlike anything previous generations have faced. Porn is not just accessible—it's expected. Messages about identity, desire, and intimacy are being shaped more by screens than by Scripture. In this important conversation, Dr. Carol talks with Joel Warneking and Bill Williams from 423 Communities, a ministry that walks with people toward freedom from unhealthy sexual patterns and into deeper intimacy with God. Joel and Bill unpack what's really going on in the hearts and minds of the next generation, and why transformation doesn't happen through willpower alone. They highlight the science of brain rewiring and the spiritual power of grace-filled community—especially in small groups—where lasting change is made possible. If you care about discipleship, sexual integrity, or the future of the church, this episode will challenge and equip you to be part of the healing story God is writing in a porn-saturated world. Connect with Joel Warneking or Bill Williams on the 423 Communities website, Facebook, X, Instagram, or YouTube. What If the Secret to Productivity… Is laughter? What do you do when your career disappears overnight? When GPS kills your bestselling book? Or when your team is drowning in stress and silence? For award-winning journalist and humorist Bill Williams, the answer wasn't hustle—it was humor. In this episode of Productivity Smarts, host Gerald J. Leonard sits down with Bill Williams—award-winning journalist, former trombonist, and the brilliant mind behind 20 Years of Internet Humor, Volume One. For over two decades, Bill has delivered daily doses of joy through his “Thought of the Day” emails, and now he's sharing how laughter can transform not just your mood—but your productivity. Bill dives into his incredible journey from film and finance to publishing and performance, showing how humor helped him lead teams, overcome major life transitions (including two bankruptcies), and adapt to everything from the death of film photography to the rise of GPS. You'll discover how a funny email boosted his sales team's performance, why “nobody ever bought something from a grouch,” and how one book is helping readers around the world start their day with a smile. If you've ever needed a reminder that joy and success can go hand in hand, this conversation is for you. And when things change, you need to change with them." — Bill Williams [15:10] "Nobody ever bought something from a grouch. If you're not smiling, if you're not ready to have a joke with somebody and, you know, have them smile, you're not going to be a very good salesman." — Bill Williams [17:35] "I don't want to be a grump, okay? And nobody ever was a good manager when they were always grumpy, you know, and so, hey, if I can use humor, which is something I've always tried to do, things work out better." — Bill Williams [26:26] "You have to change with the situation. We put the disaster information on grocery bags so that they could get the information." — Bill Williams Resources Bill Williams Website: https://www.billwilliamscomedy.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@billwilliamscomedy LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bill-williams-2488b0b Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/billwilliamscomedy Book: 20 Years of Internet Humor Productivity Smarts Podcast Website - productivitysmartspodcast.com Gerald J.
