Hey there everyone,Vik and I have both been LONG TIME Knight players, absolute power houses and veterans of the faction! So we're here to discuss some of the two more powerful Knight detachments and the new Knight Defender. We've got movement examples, and discuss a lot about hwo this impacts the game.We cover our thoughts on how design spaces like this impact the wider philosophy of the game we all love, and question some of the impacts it might have in the meta directly ahead. This IK book does seem to be quite strong, with a lot of powerful abilities, and buffs in places like thunderstomp that really cover a lot of flaws in the previous book.Let us know what your thoughts are, do you think the ALPHA STRIKE potential of the new knights is problematic? Or will you be able to counter punch hard enough?

Yet another warning on private investments! I remember hearing about a company by the name of Yieldstreet a few years ago and how it was a new way for smaller investors to get access to private investments and diversify away from stocks. The company promoted their platform with the tagline, “Invest like the 1%.” Unfortunately, it is now coming out that several investors may have lost everything they invested in the platform. One gentleman shared with CNBC how he invested $400,000 in two real estate projects: A luxury apartment building in downtown Nashville overseen by former WeWork CEO Adam Neumann's family office, and a three-building renovation in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York. Each project had targeted annual returns of around 20%. After three years, Yieldstreet declared the Nashville project a total loss, which wiped out $300k of his funds and the Chelsea deal needs to raise fresh capital or it will face a similar fate. Unfortunately, he is not alone and CNBC reviewed documents that show investors put more than $370 million into 30 real estate projects that have already recognized $78 million in defaults in the past year. Yieldstreet customers who spoke to CNBC say they anticipate deep or total losses on the remainder. Looking into this platform in more detail, it's crazy what they were doing. Their portfolio doesn't just consist of real estate as there is also private equity, private credit, art, crypto, and other less common investments. It appears Yieldstreet makes money by charging a management fee of around 2% on invested funds. The craziest part to me though was in several cases, Yieldstreet went to its userbase to raise rescue funds for troubled deals and told members the loans combined the protections of debt with the upside of equity. But in one case, a $3.1 million member loan to rescue a Nashville project was wiped out after just a few months! One of the big problems with these platforms is professional large investors are more disciplined when looking at investing in this space and the smaller players may be getting the bad deals that are passed over by the more established players. It's unfortunate to see people lose money like this, but this is why I avoid the private investment space. There is just not enough clarity and in many cases these platforms seem to be in it for themselves rather than for their investors. I will continue to invest in good, quality equities as I worry, we will continue to hear stories like this from investors who put money into private investments thinking they were investing in a safer asset, just to find out years later there is nothing left. Will tariffs hurt this holiday season? Here we are already at the end of August and before you know it, you'll be thinking about putting out the Christmas lights and decorating your home. For the past few years, we have seen growth in holiday sales, but this year could be different as it appears from recent conference calls from CEOs at Walmart, Home Depot and Target that they are seeing the tariff increases starting to come through. During his recent conference call, the CEO of Walmart, Doug McMillon, said that the impact of tariffs has been gradually increasing to protect the consumer, but he also said that the company is seeing cost increases each week as it rebuilds inventories with new products post tariff. He also mentioned that they may not be able to protect the consumer from rising prices much longer. What is also bad about this is that retail sales may rise, but consumers will receive less product to put under the Christmas tree considering sales are not adjusted for inflation. This could be the delayed inflation that Jerome Powell and the Federal Reserve has been waiting for and unfortunately, it may show up when people begin shopping for Christmas gifts. Maybe there should not be an interest rate cut in September after all? Should you work in retirement? When many people are in their working years, they can't wait to retire so they can do what they want to do. For some people that retirement works out well, but science has shown that there's health benefits to working in retirement along with financial benefits. The health benefits would include more physical activity as you're not laying around the house or sitting in the rocking chair on the front porch. Instead, you're moving around walking places and staying active. Working also helps you stay connected with other people, which has been proven to extend your life. The financial benefits from working in your later years would include taking out less from your retirement accounts to maintain a good lifestyle. Also, you can hold off on Social Security which means you'd get a larger Social Security check when you do decide to collect. The type of work you do depend on you and some people in retirement have started a second career that is a job that they always wanted to do. Some people just work part time to stay active and involved. If you're in retirement, you can take a low stress job because you don't really need all the income to cover your expenses as long as you have the financial accounts/investments to do so. Financial Planning: The challenge of creating retirement income For decades, American workers relied on pensions, but today retirement security largely depends on defined contribution plans like the 401(k), where the burden has shifted to the individual saver. The real challenge comes when it is time to turn a pile of assets into a reliable, inflation-adjusted income stream that can last 20–30 years. Some retirees look to CDs and Treasury bills, which are guaranteed and currently pay about 4% interest, but they offer no appreciation to offset inflation and yields will likely decline as short-term rates drop. Corporate bonds may provide a slightly higher return, but they come with interest rate, credit, duration, and reinvestment risks that often outweigh the modest extra yield. Others consider annuities, which can create a pension-like income stream, but these require handing over principal, and because they are designed by insurance companies, the terms typically favor the provider rather than the investor. High-dividend stocks can also be appealing, but they may be a trap, as struggling companies often have elevated yields due to falling stock prices, which can be compounded further if the dividend is cut. On the other end of the spectrum, broad market indexes like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq have been popular for growth, but their dividend yields remain low, around 1.2% and 0.8% respectively, forcing investors to sell shares for income, and poorly timed sales can shorten portfolio longevity. Even dividend aristocrats, known for steadily increasing payouts, currently only yield about 2% to 2.5% on average. There is no simple solution, but one truth stands out: accumulating assets is very different than generating income from them. Retirees need a clear income plan before leaving the workforce in order to maximize both security and enjoyment in retirement. Companies Discussed: Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (CBRL), Zoom Communications Inc. (ZM), Ralph Lauren Corporation (RL) & Viking Holdings LTD. (VIK)

Send us a textGuest: Dr. Robb Kruklitis, Chief Clinical Officer at Guthrie ClinicHost: Vik PatelIn this episode of This Week in Health Tech, Vik welcomes Dr. Robb Kruklitis, Chief Clinical Officer at Guthrie Clinic. In this episode, Vik sits down with Dr. Robb Kruklitis to explore Guthrie Clinic's innovative remote patient monitoring (RPM) initiative for chronic disease management. The project focuses on centralizing vital signs and biometric data from patients at home—particularly those with conditions like congestive heart failure—to enable timely interventions and reduce readmissions.Dr. Kruklitis shares how this data flows directly into Epic, where nurses monitor dashboards and respond proactively. Guthrie is also developing a remote clinical workforce to support this model. The discussion highlights the need for smarter alerts, predictive analytics, and ultimately, a shift from reactive to proactive care.Vik draws parallels with Tido's MIDR-AI monitoring solution, and the conversation shifts toward the broader future of AI in healthcare. Both agree that the industry's next leap is to fully harness EHR and external data to drive predictive insights, improve scheduling, and support providers with intelligent tools.Dr. Kruklitis ends on an inspiring note, comparing the future of healthcare data use to Moneyball—leveraging diverse data to deliver the right care at the right time and place.Support the showListen to all This Week in Health Tech episodesVik Patel - LinkedInTido Inc. - WebsiteTido Inc. - LinkedIn
On today's episode of iGaming Daily, sponsored by Optimove, James Ross is back in the host's chair to discuss a couple of controversial topics, one from the UK and one from Colombia. Firstly in the UK, where an undercover BBC reporter reportedly accessed adult gaming centres (AGCs) in South England while on a self-exclusion list, raising concerns about player safety. The guys discuss the response from John Bollum, BACTA President who called for "unity within the sector" to quickly address any mistakes and emphasised the industry's commitment to "the highest standards in the UK". James and Vik also cover common criticisms levelled at AGCs, such as their location in poverty-stricken areas and late operating hours, and explore the significant pushback from 39 local governments, who co-signed a letter to the DCMS Secretary calling for increased controls, particularly regarding planning applications. In the second part of the pod, the guys delve into the sensational controversy surrounding the state-run Medellin lottery, where a £3 million jackpot winner was revealed to be Louisa Jamo, the wife of the lottery's deputy boss. They clue you in on the fallout, including the investigation into the scandal by Coljuegos, and even Colombian President Gustavo Petro sharing the story on social media, highlighting the critical nature and integrity concerns surrounding the situation.Host: James RossGuests: Viktor KayedProducer: Anaya McDonaldEditor: James RossiGaming Daily is also now on TikTok. Send us a textGuest: Shane Rodabaugh, System VP of IT & Infrastructure, Baptist Health KY & IN Host: Vik PatelIn this episode, Vik welcomes Shane Rodabaugh to discuss infrastructure modernization, cloud strategy, AI readiness, and leadership in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment. They begin with a look at Baptist Health's current infrastructure—a hybrid model with Epic EHR hosted on-premise and new efforts like Cogito Cloud moving to Microsoft Fabric. This transition lays the foundation for advanced analytics and future AI capabilities.Vik and Shane explore the challenges of defining a “cloud strategy” in a world that evolves faster than any 3-year plan. Shane emphasizes the importance of flexibility and prioritization, especially when resources are limited but the demand for innovation is high. Vik introduces Tido CortexAI, an AI-ready data cloud, noting that CMIOs are often at the forefront of these initiatives. Shane mentions Baptist's CMIO, Dr. Brett Oliver, and how he's helping drive AI strategy from a clinical lens.As the conversation deepens, Vik asks about collaboration with clinical leadership. Shane explains that the dialogue is open and energetic—but sometimes he has to “hold the horses back.” Even with compelling ROI and excitement from clinicians, resource capacity often becomes the limiting factor. Still, the team focuses on staying agile, learning from fast failures, and pivoting quickly when needed. They shift to discussing AI governance and risk. Shane underscores the importance of understanding the algorithms and data behind models before deploying AI solutions in clinical settings. On the topic of build vs. buy, Shane shares insights from recent leadership discussions. While he's not opposed to building, he notes that Baptist isn't a development shop and scaling internal dev teams is a major investment. They view partners—like Epic—as their development engine for core platforms. Vik adds that a hybrid model often works best: internal teams guiding strategy while partners focus on execution. This balance helps mitigate key personnel risk and increases long-term sustainability. The conversation rounds out with leadership and collaboration. Shane shares how closely he works with the CIO and PMO, including weekly meetings focused on project prioritization and transparent communication—something he says is a strength at Baptist. They close the episode by talking about work-life balance. Shane shares a recent family vacation experience and how it's important to model healthy balance from the top. Lastly, he offers a grounding reminder: no matter how complex the tech or fast the pace—it's all for the patient.Support the showListen to all This Week in Health Tech episodesVik Patel - LinkedInTido Inc. - WebsiteTido Inc. - LinkedIn

Our panel chat about the Nordic approach to the black market, and what other markets could learn from their ability to shift players back to regulated operations. Onto the UK, where rumours are abound that Keir Starmer plans to dissolve the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, something that would be a significant change for the UK industry. The guys chat about where the industry might go, where political responsibility might lie, and whether this could lead to confusing and convoluted fragmentation. The penultimate destination on today's tour is Thailand, where they discuss the ongoing casino legislation, a story with multiple moving parts. Ted, Joe and Vik bring you up to date with the story, including committee-ception as the Senate Special Committee establish two new sub-committees, the significant due diligence involved, and the added dynamic of Chinese interest in the story, with concerns it may impact Macau's status as the home of Asian gambling. Lastly, we head to Botswana, following this week's SBC News story highlighting the African nation as the potential new boom market on the continent. Recently, ten new licenses were handed out, including one to Betway. Botswana is considered to be a gateway market to the wider region, and the guys also touch on South Africa who have recently introduced a National Gambling Policy Council. On today's episode of iGaming Daily, sponsored by Optimove, our European team are discussing the biggest player in the game, Bet365. Viktor Kayed is once again in the host's chair, and he's once again between two Teds. Ted Menmuir, Editor-at-large, and Ted Orme-Claye, SBC News Editor, as they discuss the speculation around a potential sale of Bet365. Reported by the The Guardian last week, the rumours suggested the Coates family were exploring a sale of the business valued at £9 billion, and a potential move to Wall Street. Vik, Ted and Ted express their surprise at the story, but emphasise the report is highly speculative in nature. They also explore potential reasons for considering a sale, strategic moved made recently to enhance investor appeal, their exit from the Chinese market, the impact on the British Stock Exchange, and the impact on the North American market. Send us a textGuest: Lance Alston, Director of IT, Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home Host: Vik PatelOn this episode, Vik welcomes Lance Alston, Director of IT at Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home, for a candid conversation on leading with resilience, trust, and innovation in a resource-constrained healthcare environment.Lance shares how he's successfully navigating the “do more with less” challenge, emphasizing the importance of trust — both within his team and with external partners. While vendor partnerships can be highly beneficial, Lance acknowledges they often require a culture shift. At Nathan Littauer, he's worked to foster the right mindset and build trust with carefully chosen partners to reduce organizational risk, especially around key personnel dependencies. The conversation also touches on leadership and well-being. Lance and Vik explore the importance of work-life balance in healthcare IT, a field often plagued by burnout. Lance emphasizes leading by example and ensuring team members feel supported in taking time off. This culture shift is backed by the full C-suite, including the CEO, who recognize that employee morale and well-being are essential for long-term success. From there, the discussion transitions into more technical territory, including the organization's current and future AI strategy. Lance highlights how having an enthusiastic and forward-thinking CMIO has been instrumental in exploring AI solutions that support clinical decision-making. Together, they're laying the foundation for a future where AI becomes a practical, integrated tool — not just a buzzword.Vik also introduces Tido CortexAI, an AI-ready data lake that transforms EHR, clinical, and operational data into clean, normalized, and interoperable insights. Whether it's for predictive modeling, automation, or real-time trends, CortexAI provides the data foundation healthcare organizations need to make meaningful use of AI.Finally, Lance offers insights into the importance of open communication across departments — even when the answer isn't immediately clear. “It's okay to say, ‘I'm not sure yet, but I'm working on a solution,'” he says. Fostering transparency, accessibility, and continuous communication is key. Because no matter how advanced the technology, without the right strategy and human connection, it won't deliver its full value.Closing thoughts from Lance: At the end of the day, IT is still IT — even in the age of AI. What truly makes a difference is effective communication, strong relationships, and trust. Especially when you're tasked with doing more with less, those human elements are essential.Support the showListen to all This Week in Health Tech episodesVik Patel - LinkedInTido Inc. - WebsiteTido Inc. - LinkedIn

Earlier this month Lost Cause Brewing, the independent brewery, founded in 2024 by Vik and Colin Stronge, completed a crowdfunding campaign help to bring beer production home to Castleford. So what better time to hear from one of the excellent brewery's founders. Whie Lost Cause Brewing might be new, its founders are no strangers to making great beer. Head brewer Colin Stronge has spent over 20 years crafting beers at some of the UK's most celebrated breweries, including Marble Beers, Buxton Brewery, Northern Monk, Black Isle, and Salt Beer Factory. His beers have poured at the most prestigious craft beer festivals around the world, earning him Brewer of the Year 2022 at our Brewers Choice Awards as well as a dedicated following among beer enthusiasts. And last year we were thrilled that Colin used our Brewers Lectures at the excellent Wiper and True in Bristol to showcase these debut Lost Cause beers for the first time. During his talk, Colin talked us through his career to-date. But more importantly, he outlines his goals for Lost Cause Brewing Co and why sometimes you need a little bit of discomfort to give you that push in life.

Alok Sama spent years in corporate finance and as a managing director at Morgan Stanley before joining Softbank as CFO and plunging into founder-CEO Masayoshi Son’s world of high-speed, high-risk decision making. For Sama, the shift involved many eye-opening experiences, which he later shared in a memoir, titled The Money Trap: Lost Illusions Inside the Tech Bubble (St. Martin’s Press, 2024). Hop Forward: Getting You Ahead in the Brewing and Beer Business
I'm sure you'll forgive the clickbaity title but it's a question I've been asking for the last 10 years. Most brewery businesses start by obtaining a premises, purchasing equipment, commissioning a brewhouse and getting to work making beer. However, what happens to those of us out there who don't have access to the kinds of capital required to open their own brewhouse and taproom but still have the passion and zeal, business and brewing skills required to make a go of it...?In this episode, Nick chats to Colin Stronge - a well-known and highly respected figure in modern British beer about he and his wife, marketing executive Vik Stronge, moved out of employed work to start Lost Cause Brewing Co. without owning a brewhouse of their own. Nick shares his own journey and how, by asking whether contract brewing is a long-term viable option, whether - ultimately - a owning your own plant and equipment is the only real way forward. We dig into details surrounding industry and customer perceptions about contract brewing, what to look for in a brewery partner, and how to navigate the many unknowns of building a brewery brand without a brewery of your own.Since recording this episode in January, Lost Cause Brewing Co. announced a Crowdfunder project to raise £60,000 in order to build their own brewhouse in Castleford, near Leeds, where their taproom and storehouse is currently located. Please take a moment to help Colin and Vik by pledging some money towards their project, if you are able:Crowdfunder: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/support-the-causeWebsite: Lost Cause Brewing Co. He has a commitment to crafting enduring, personalized spaces while upholding the standards in the tradition of so many great builders. His journey began in his teens under the mentorship of a master builder, but he temporarily diverted his path to pursue a football scholarship and a career in the CFL, culminating in a triumphant Grey Cup Championship with the BC Lions in 2006.Following retirement from professional football, Sebastian seamlessly transitioned back to his first love: renovations. With a diverse skill set honed over years of experience, he emerged as a versatile craftsman, excelling in multiple disciplines and earning the title of a true jack of all trades.
