Today's episode brings routesetter Ethan Paris to the recording studio. Paris comes from a film and creative background, giving him a unique perspective on how routesetters operate in a space that can be defined half by art and half by design. Hailing from the Northeast, he moved to Colorado in 2024 to set at the Climbing Collective gyms in Longmont, Loveland and Greeley. Paris is a USAC Level 2 routesetter and has set for over 20 local and USAC competitions nationwide. He's also participated in the Setter Showdown in Hawaii, taken setting clinics in London, and hopes to one day set for national-level events. Host Holly Chen talks to Paris about the prevalence of imposter syndrome in the routesetting industry. They explore the origins and characteristics of the phenomenon, from the term's conception in 1978 to how imposter syndrome impacts today's modern routesetting community. They talk about how it manifests across the gender spectrum, and how difficult it can be to overcome. Finally, they discuss how community is often the ticket out. Its a popular belief to “Fake it till you make it!” It's been normalized to the point where some people lose a sense of self and their own authenticity! Today we’re proposing a new approach to Psychology, Self-help and Human development that is based on being in alignment with the way humans are naturally designed! We’re going to talk about the toxic consequences of the current processes of education, development and growth that are taught today. In this episode we take on one of the most widely accepted yet misguided piece of career advice: "Fake it till you make it." After coming across this advice in a Google search, Anna unpacks why this approach not only doest work but is potentially harmful to anyone trying to build genuine confidence in the workplace. Key Takeaways: Debunking the Myth: Faking it does not lead to authentic confidence. Instead, it merely masks insecurities and delays the process of developing real self-assurance. Faking It vs. Authentic Confidence: Using examples from relationships and social media, we illustrate how faking confidence is similar to pretending in other areas of life—it may fool others, but it doesn't create genuine feelings or results. The Real Path to Confidence: Anna reminds listeners that true confidence comes from within, built through self-awareness, experience and personal growth, not through pretending. Take The Confidence Assessment to identify where you stand in your confidence journey and receive personalised advice for building real, lasting confidence that isn't fake. Ready for some gypsy-soul rock-n-roll?? Well you're going to love the music and the convo with Gina Zo of Velvet Rouge. They have brand new music coming out to continue their exceptional offerings and performances that made them Philly's hottest rock band.Gina's been singing and dancing pretty much since she could start to talk and walk. And took to all aspects of being a musician just as quickly - writing songs as soon as she was gifted a guitar, and then immediately began prospecting with venues for gigs, showing a willingness for the grind of getting your name and music out there. Then at 17 she auditioned for The Voice and made it to the show on Team Blake. There she did receive coaching from Gwen Stefani, which you can see homage to in her performances.Off of the success of the show, she was able to sign with a label, however here she experiences the darker side of the industry where she didn't have control over her own content and image and it has her take a break from singing, writing and performing.Luckily for us, she eventually gets motivated to "get the band back together" and now called Velvet Rouge, they've committed to go all out and also to advocate for change in the treatment of women in the industry. Also, recently come out as bi-sexual, Gina is also an advocate for being your most genuine self, and released the anthemic "Faking It" about the struggles with navigating that. Happy Pride! All that and much more to look forward to in this interview, including a live performance from Gina of "Shattered" which is releasing the same day as this interview. This accompanies the previously released summer power jam "Lonely Since The Day We Met", and the full EP comes out in a month on 7/26. Join for the EP release show at Johnny Brenda's on 7/27!Lastly, we'll have our typically trivial details to explore - like what's up with this broken toilet seat on the wall....???Text us your thoughts on this episode, and who should be OUR #NextFavBand...As always, our hope is to bring you "your next favorite band". If you tuned in today because you already knew this musician - thank you very much! We hope that you enjoyed it and would consider following us and subscribing so we can bring you your #nextfavband in the future. Today on Too Opinionated, Rising LGBT+ rock sensation and NBC's “The Voice” alum Gina Zo and her band Velvet Rouge announce their upcoming song release. After captivating audiences on a national stage at just 17 and securing her spot on “Team Blake Shelton,” Gina formed her band Velvet Rouge and set out to make a name for them in Philadelphia's vibrant music scene. From the intimate stages of local venues to the bustling streets of their hometown, Gina and the band garnered a dedicated following. On stage, it is evident that Gina is a true front woman and rockstar. With every performance more electrifying than the last, Gina's comfort and command of the stage stems from her background as a competitive dancer. But it's in the music where her true power shines through. Her songs, crafted from raw emotion and unfiltered honesty, resonate with audiences seeking solace in the complexities of life. Gina embodies the essence of fierce advocacy, championing not only women's rights but also proudly standing as a beacon for LGBTQ+ equality as a bisexual woman. During Pride Month 2022, Gina boldly came out by releasing a stirring anthem called “Faking It,” which she dedicates to anyone who feels like they have to shield their true identities to conform to societal expectations. In her lyrics, she urges listeners to embrace their authentic selves. Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)
