Most mothers agree that prayer is part of their parenting dynamic, yet so many mothers, including myself, wonder if the way of prayer is as mysterious and challenging as it can seem. We often wonder if we're covering all the topics needed with this little one, and we wish we knew what to pray in the struggles in hard parenting seasons. Bethany Kimsey walked through these questions and doubts in a season with her eight children in which she desperately needed to see God at work in her children's lives. Seeking His Word for what praying intentionally looked like began to create ~ A Warrior Mama's Prayers. The journal walks a mother through a full year of praying specific scriptures for her child every day, month after month. These prayers are divided into 4 main themes of prayer: • Praying the Gospel take root in our child's life • Praying for their Character • Praying for the spiritual battle around them • Praying for their future as they learn to abide in Jesus Join us as we learn to anchor our prayers in very specific promises and truths from His Word, you and I will have front row seats to watch God work in the hearts of our children. By 1981, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were barely talking, having differing opinions on the direction of The Rolling Stones. Making new music together seemed out of the question, but they were booked on a world tour, and needed an album to tour behind. That's when engineer Chris Kimsey stepped in to save the day, poring over forgotten outtakes from the band's previous sessions to cobble together what would become the Tattoo You album. The lead track, “Start Me Up,” was the biggest surprise to Keith Richards, who had written it as a reggae song but never liked what he heard when it was recorded. But, Kimsey found a diamond in the rough: when Richards and Charlie Watts briefly went into the rockin' version we fans have come to know in one of those forgotten sessions. That outtake, after a little polishing, became one of the biggest hits of the Stones' career, and it's a miracle it was ever found to begin with. Family Traditions That Keep Christ at the Center of Christmas (w/ Bethany Kimsey) - Ep. 83

Keeping Christ at the center of Christmas is a huge challenge. Busy parents are constantly pushed and pulled a hundred different directions, especially at the holidays. Our event calendar in December can look like a flow-chart from an international airport with constant departures and arrivals. It is easy to forget Christ in the hustle and bustle of baking, shopping, wrapping, and party-hopping.   How do we keep our families focused on Christ during the hectic holiday season? Bethany Kimsey, host of the Warrior Mama Podcast, joins Catherine again to discuss how to keep our hearts and our families concentrated on Christ during the Christmas season. These two moms have over 40 years of parenting experience, and in this episode, they share their favorite Christ-centered family traditions. These traditions are:   *Don't compare yourself to other families. *Study the names of Jesus. *Celebrate Advent. *Watch Christ-centered entertainment. *Create a Jesse Tree. *Assign Scripture passages to each family member for Christmas. *Educate your kids and give to a Christ-centered mission. *Celebrate Jolaboklaflod (an evening of book-giving) with Christ-centered books.   Employing some of these wonderful family traditions will help counteract the busyness, the commercialism and materialism, and the overall stress of Christmas. Bethany's bio: As a mother to 8 children, Bethany Kimsey has seen God radically change her messy motherhood from weary, anxious, and frantic to peaceful, joyful, and triumphant. She helps weary mothers win the battle against worry and fatigue as they understand their identity in Christ and rest in the hope of the Gospel in community with other moms.   Bethany recently authored A Warrior Mama's Prayer Journal to help mothers pray intentionally over their children and anchor in gospel truths. “He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake. He knows when you've been bad or good So be good for goodness sake.”   Our culture tells us that Jolly ole St. Nicholas is keeping a list, and he's checking it twice. He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice. So the gifts under our tree at Christmas are a direct result of how good or bad we've been throughout the year.   Is that how our faith works?   Did God give the great gift of Christ to the world because we were good? Because we deserved Him?   No.   The Christian faith tells us that a very good God sent the gift of his Son to a broken humanity, to a hopeless people who have fallen short of His glory. We don't deserve the gift of Jesus, but God gave this gift because of His overwhelming love for us.   Likewise, the gifts under our tree for our kids must not be attached to their behavior. Unlike Santa Clause, our gifts must not have strings attached. They should be a result our love, not a manipulative ploy to garner a good performance from our kids.   Joining Catherine as a co-host for this vital conversation about what our culture gets wrong about Christmas is Bethany Kimsey, a mother of 8 and host of The Warrior Mama Podcast, a show that is devoted to applying the Gospel to the daily details of parenting our children. Together, Bethany and Catherine tackle one of the greatest cultural lies about Christmas—the lie that your Christmas gifts are attached to your goodness. Getting your dream of becoming an author off the ground with Lorna Hollifield Lorna Hollifield is a Charleston-based fiction author and magazine columnist, as well as the Editor in Chief of The Yellow Bird Press.  She grew up in the mountains outside of Asheville North Carolina, where she started writing as a first grader.  Lorna spent many years seeking publication, writing for numerous blogs, contributing to literary anthologies, and appearing in small publications.  In 2017, her debut novel Tobacco Sun was picked up by Pen Name Publishing, and catapulted her into the professional writing world.  Shortly after, Lorna became a columnist in a suburban newspaper called The Islander, and then Charleston's leading women's magazine, Skirt. She now writes regularly for Azalea Magazine.  Lorna founded The Yellow Bird Press in 2019 to find authentic stories with wings ready to truly fly.  Her goal is to set these stories free into the world where they belong.  When Lorna isn't writing or combing the world for amazing new authors, she is most likely on a beach somewhere with her husband Kimsey, daughter Allyn, and spunky spaniel, Margaret.

Welcome back to the kitchen table. Bethany is thrilled to have you join her as she continues the series When the Practical Meets Jesus. The past few weeks, this series has allowed listeners to look at real-life moments in motherhood through the lens of the Gospel. This week Bethany's conversation on dating stems from a place where many mothers, including herself, have found themself seeking guidance.    Bethany talks with her listeners from a place where the Kimsey family has landed. These are techniques and conversations that have worked in their household. Bethany uses the five core components in tackling these moments in a culture extremely focused on dating, outward appearances, and attachment to others.    We understand that we are shepherding a soul in need of a Savior.  We rely on God for His wisdom and perspective. We are consistent in our messaging. We pray and pray. We speak words of Life. The Gospel truth.    Bethany encourages listeners by speaking on the three components that the enemy uses against our children in dating. She provides experience in rooting conversations in wisdom and purity. Purity is a three-fold entity consisting of emotional, physical, and spiritual purity, and they are three-legged stools that work together. While conversations regarding purity can feel challenging, Bethany offers guidance and experience to assist in these difficult moments.    Bethany welcomes you to share some of your favorite moments or maybe some of your most difficult moments of motherhood.   Connect with Bethany: Website Instagram Facebook   Grab: Who I am in Christ   The Beauty from Within Scriptures:  1 Samuel 16:7, Proverbs 11:22, Proverbs 15:13, Psalm 139:14-15, Ephesians 2:10, Proverbs 27:19 Related Episodes:Episode 24

We are to be their catalyst, pointing them to the Lord and helping them see how they can turn to the holy spirit.    Bethany shares how she didn't provide shame or judgment in each moment of sin or weakness, but instead, she reminded her children that this is an opportunity to take it to Christ. We, as mamas, have been invited to a sacred conversation with God. He holds out his hand and asks us to not only walk with him and our children but to be an active voice in prayer.    Bethany's daughters share how being met graciously in times of sin was a glimpse into God's grace and a reminder of a need for a savior.   The girls continue to discuss how identity, comparison, perfectionism, surrender, and an active army have all played a role in their walk with Christ.
