A Podcast about Pittsburgh sports + Pittsburgh beer.
The Steelers win and it has me ready to prost-n-party. I break down the game along with this week's matchup against Seattle, as well as talk a little hockey. And of course, I'm enjoying my final festbier - a lager from Necromancer Brewing Co. Cheers
I've run out of words to spend on the Steelers recent performance. So instead of harboring my bitterness, I'm focusing on the finer things in life. Like upscale food, Pittsburgh restaurants, and tequila - and Zach Banner is here to help. Join us both as we dive into the world of culinary creativity and try to forget about Pittsburgh's football woes. Cheers
For as rockin' as Heinz was before kickoff, the game certainly didn't reflect the energy the we fans brought into the stands with us. The Steelers looked flat in a loss against the Las Vegas Raiders, and I just...I don't know. Is it time to throw in the terrible towel on this team?I don't know. Do they still have potential to be good? I don't know. Feel free to join me in my uncertainty and despair. Cheers.
For the second season in a row, the Steelers are starting out 1-0. But this season...feels a little different. Join me as I kick off Oktoberfest, cozy up with a tasty festbier lager from Cinderlands, and breakdown the good and the bad from the week one showdown between our Steelers and the Bills. Cheers.
Summer is winding down and we are heading full steam ahead into the regular season. Join me as I share the latest Steelers news, make picks and predictions for each division, and pay tribute to the late Tunch Ilkin, all while I sip on a seriously smooth and refreshing pilsner from Grist House. Cheers
Is this lens better or worse? Are the Penguins? Are the Pirates? Are the Steelers winning the Super Bowl or will they be the worst team in the league? I don't know. But what I DO know is how I feel about all of it. And I'm here to give you my takes on the current state of each of our beloved black and gold teams, all while I sip on a light lager from Cinderlands. Cheers.
MLB Draft, Expansion Draft, Craft Draft, you name it. Listen in as I share my thoughts on the future of the Pittsburgh Pirates (and why it's ok to be excited about it), the upcoming NHL expansion draft, who the Penguins can't afford to expose, and give a potentially premature sendoff to everyone's favorite sheriff. All this while I sip on a crisp and smooth American Ale from Dancing Gnome. Cheers
Hey yinz, I'm BACK. And to kick off the party I'm joined by Dave Dameshek (host of the Minus Three podcast, friend of Around The NFL, and much more) to talk about his history with Pittsburgh sports, the news of the David DeCastro release, and much more. Cheers
Another first round exit for the Penguins and I just can't bear to go it alone. So I share my thoughts and take to Twitter to hear some of yours, all while I sip on a strawberry margarita tart ale collab from New Trail, Foreign Objects, and Discord. Cheers.
Surprise! Today's episode is a special and exclusive release from my Patreon Quest For The Cup series, where I've released an episode a day for patrons. This one is chock full of goodness, as Penguins Jesus joins me to talk about the first two games against the Islanders, the origin and journey of his infamous and mysterious twitter persona, and Big Man Jeff Carter. Cheers
Cody's art...is the prettiest art.....of all the art.No, but for real. Cody Sabol is one talented guy. And it was an honor to have him in the virtual guest seat-of-honor for this week's episode to talk about his love of painting and art and how he started out, all while sipping on the third brew in Eleventh Hour's Slice series - a strawberry/dark cherry/sweet cherry pie fruited sour. Cheers.
This weekend was a DOOZY and there is so much to unpack. Join me as I sit down with DK Pittsburgh Sports' Steelers writer Chris Carter to go in-depth on the NFL Draft, the upcoming season, and how we feel about all of it, all while I drink a delightfully tart and crisp Berliner Weisse from Voodoo Brewing. Cheers.
Welcome back to everyone's favorite time of day, happy hour. Barstool Sports' Joey Mulinaro sits down with me this week to talk Steelers, NFL Draft, and the upcoming 2021 season. And boy do we ever go into the nitty gritty (here's hoping they go Najee at 24), all while I sip on a refreshing and beachy kettle sour from my friends Trace in Bloomfield. Cheers.
SO. MUCH. Mike Tomlin got a contract extension, the Steelers are probably drafting a running back in round one, the Penguins are confusing, and the Pirates are...not awful?? I have thoughts on all of it and some big announcements, all while I kick off a new beer series featuring all things tart with the Yinzbetto #27 from Ever Grain in Camp Hill. Cheers
Can you even believe we're celebrating the one year anniversary of the debut episode of Helmet Hair? I sure can't. If you missed the livestream event, here it is in all its glory - all two hours of me hanging with my friends Amanda, Hunter, Josh, Alana, Sean, Taylor, Nick, and Noah. Cheers
I'm back in the beautiful city of Pittsburgh (#westsidebestside) and am joined by none other than the Hulk himself, Zach Banner. We talk all about his rehab process, his perspective on what went wrong last season, predictions for this coming year, and even some Pirates jersey recommendations. All this goes down while I enjoy another double dry hopped IPA, this time from Hitchhiker. You do not want to miss this one. Cheers
I have totally gone off the deep end this week. Not only was I way too close to Philly for comfort, but I invited my good friend Brandon (a self-proclaimed "Flyers' fan") to come hang out, drink beer, and talk hockey. He was a great sport and handled the roasting and the alcohol with great aplomb - as much as you can have rooting for that garbage team. Cheers
Is this the Penguins' broadcast booth?? Nope, just my living room. But it sure feels like it could be since just one week after Mearsy stopped by, Josh Getzoff is here to hang and have a beer. Join us both as we dive into Penguins hockey, broadcasting, and our love of beer. Josh has Moving Castle I from Trace and I'm sipping on Icicle, another hazy from New Trail. Cheers.
Spring is quickly approaching, so is playoff hockey, so is another hazy beer...to my mouth. Got a double IPA to sip on from Trace in Bloomfield as I sit down with Penguins TV play-by-play commentator Steve Mears to talk about his career in broadcasting, Penguins hockey, and some minor league fights. Cheers
The haze continues with a piney juicy double dry-hopped IPA from Strange Roots, and along for the ride is my friend Josh to talk Penguins hockey. We go into Bryan Rust, Teddy Blueger, powerplay struggles, and whether or not this team is a legitimate Cup contender. Cheers.
He's more of a man now than a kid, but tomato/tomahtoe. In this special Sidney Crosby tribute episode, I do a deep dive into his career and what has made it so special - for me and for Penguins fans everywhere. He's a real gem and we are lucky to have him. Don't forget the beer though; I spend some time nerding out about hazy IPA's to kick off my new beer series all while sipping on a smooth double IPA from Insurrection Aleworks. Cheers.
Some beers help our tears, and though the Penguins looked great on Sunday, there are a lot of issues they have to fix if they want to make a run at the Cup (or make the playoffs at all). Join me, my friend Matt, and our tasty brews as we chat all about the Penguins being Pittsburgh fans. Cheers
Today's episode is extra special short, because there's only one piece of news we need to talk about - the Penguins' hiring of Brian Burke as President of Hockey Operations and Ron Hextall as General Manager. I'm extending my dessert beer series with my favorite cherry cheesecake sour of all time from Grist House while sharing my thoughts and feelings about the hires. Cheers
Snow-day show-day, and there's plenty to talk about. The Steelers have been busy with offseason staff changes, the Penguins have been consistently inconsistent, and the Super Bowl is this week. I dive into all that plus my ideal Super Bowl menu as I cozy up with the next beer in my dessert series - a gingerbread milk stout from Cinderlands. Cheers.
It's been a wild week in Pittsburgh, with the Penguins starting 0-2 and subsequently righting the ship to 2-2 - and the Steelers' signing of Dwayne Haskins. I'm confused. Come be confused with me while I drink the second beer in my Dessert Series from Eleventh Hour that may have jumped onto my Death Bed Beer list. Cheers.
The Steelers are dead to me (and to the NFL Playoffs). Thank God the Penguins are finally back. Since this is the first episode of 2021 and the first in my Dessert Beeries (I'm drinking a peanut butter & chocolate stout from Grist House), I decided to celebrate with a happy hour episode. Join me and Josh Yohe of The Athletic Pittsburgh to talk in-depth about things to get excited about and watch for in the Pens' abbreviated season. Cheers!
It's a clash of the last titans standing for our Twitter Fantasy Football League, and it's the week in between Christmas and New Year's - which means two more guests and tons of leftovers. Join me, Joe, and Chris to talk about their final matchup of the season and all about the Steelers' second half revival against the Colts on Sunday while I drink a leftover Christmas beer. Cheers.
It’s Christmas week, so at least there's one good thing to look forward to. Because the Steelers might not win another game this season. Cody and Anthony from the Twitter Fantasy Football League are back and they're here to help me break what the hell is going on with the Steelers while I drink a delish lager from Trace, a new brewery out in Bloomfield. Cheers.
After the Steelers' second straight loss, I'm hitting the hard stuff - a s'mores stout from Hitchhiker. And I'm digging in deep with my friend Aaron from the Twitter Fantasy Football League to talk about what seems to be the problem and whether or not we think they'll fix their issues before it's too late. Cheers.
It finally happened - the Steelers lost a game. And it was a bad one. What went wrong? What can they fix? What do I know? My friend Triston from the Twitter Fantasy Football League is here to break it all down with me while I drink a liquid Christmas cookie from New Trail Brewing. Cheers.
Just another podcast following the weekly Wednesday Afternoon Football Game. Wait a minute. This was a weird week, and after the Steelers Ravens game was postponed thrice, we got to watch a less than convincing victory over Baltimore. My guest Regis from the Twitter Fantasy Football League and I dive into all of that nonsense, plus a little bit about the Penguins and Pirates all while I'm sipping on a festive sprucey IPA from Cinderlands. Cheers.
There are so many things to be thankful for this week, and the Steelers are a big one. So is Eleventh Hour. And today's episode is full of both. Join me as my twitter pal Ted and I get into the Steelers' success this season and how good their chances look to win it all. Cheers.
The Steelers are 9-0. For the first time. Ever. I got my hands on a tart and crisp apple + cinnamon sour from Four Points to sip on while I chat with my friend Julio from the twitter fantasy football league. Join us as we chat about how good the Steelers are and how bad Randy Fichtner is. Cheers
Week two of Punkin Palooza and we got a good one today - Troegs Master of Pumpkins. They may not be from Pittsburgh, but they're Pennsylvania based and oh-so-delicious. My friend Kayla (@kayla_duerr25) from the twitter fantasy football league is on the pod today to talk about her team, the Steelers/Browns beatdown, and the upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans. Cheers.
The days are getting shorter, the air a little crisper, and the szn getting spookier so that can only mean one thing - it's PUNKIN time y'all. This is the first week of my Punkin Palooza so I crack open a nice tart pumpkin pie milkshake IPA from Cinderlands to chat with my twitter pal Joe (@joefrk) about his fantasy team and the Steelers victory over their cross-state rivals last Sunday. Cheers.
We may be in the final quarter of 2020, but that’s plenty of time to turn it around. And that may just be what’s happening, since the Penguins bought out Jack Johnson and he is gone forever. But like all good news, it’s typically accompanied by some sad news. And this week it’s that Matt Murray was traded to the Ottawa Senators. My best friend Amanda joins me to discuss her feelings on the trade and about why she grew so attached to Murray to begin with, all while I drink a delectable sour from Eleventh Hour and Alematic Artisan Ales. Cheers.
It's 2020, which means anything that can happen will happen. The Steelers might play this week. Or not. I'm not drinking a beer today. But I do MENTION a bomb-az festbier from Cinderlands, and Chris (@HoneyBadgerC93) is my guest as we cover his fantasy team and the Steelers unconvincing victory over the Texans this past Sunday. Cheers.
It’s the last ep. of summer so I’m celebrating with the closest thing I have to a beermosa, a fruited sour from Grist House. Join me as I chat with Cody (@Kohlman_Ent) about his fantasy team and a plethora of Steelers related topics. Cheers.
Helmet Hair is back baby, and so is the NFL with its 2020 regular season underway. Joining me for this episode is Anthony (otherwise known as @bigsteelermood) from the Helmet Hair Twitter Fantasy Football League to talk about his team and our big takeaways from the Steelers' victory against the Giants on Monday Night Football. Today's beer of choice is an infinitely crushable peach cobbler IPA from Hitchhiker. Cheers.
This Nebula Colada from Cinderlands makes me feel like I'm at the beach, which is nice because I already need a vacation from the stress of Penguins hockey. Not a good start, but live action is back and I am thrilled to be able to recap the last couple weeks of Pirates' baseball and the Stanley Cup Qualifiers with you. Cheers.
Buckle up, because it's Happy Hour. Come hang to hear all about Penguins training camp (Sid is ok) and sports fandom in Pittsburgh from me and my friend Josh Yohe from The Athletic in Pittsburgh. I'm drinking an IPA from Four Points and loving life. Cheers.
The Pens are back, and I just couldn't wait to dive into about the first two days of training camp after the NHL paused its season back in March. Get ready, because I talk about lines, d-pairings, zoom call interviews, and much more while drinking a fermented sour ale from Leaning Cask. Cheers.
Things are happeninggggg. Baseball is returning, hockey is returning, and football may not have a preseason. But let's focus on the positives. We are so close to getting sports back, and I have an IPA from Brew Gentlemen to help guide me in my quest to tell you all about it. Cheers.
All by myself...so I hit up Twitter and IG to see what all of you were dying to know. Cover some updates on sports, on my knowledge of Sarver, and give A's to all your Q's while I sip on another Fruit Whip from Cellarworks. Cheers.
Grab your bottles, cans, or glasses because it's happy hour again. I'm joined in person by my best friend Amanda Scrimale to talk about how a Jersey girl became a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, and hear some stories about the 2017 Stanley Cup from her perspective. She doesn't like beer but she humors me by drinking a fruited sour from Grist House, I enjoy a superb smoothie sour from Hitchhiker, and we have a grand old time. Cheers.
Episode Description: It’s time to crack open a cold one, because we’ve got another happy hour episode coming atcha. This week I’m joined by Hunter Homistek of DK Pittsburgh Sports and we dive into all sorts of topics, ranging from sports journalism to the return of the NHL and lack of return of the MLB to craft beer and much more. Come hang, I’m drinking a smooth-n-juicy double IPA from Four Points in Charleroi. Cheers.
This one is for all the beer lovers out there, as I chat all things brews with my pals Zach Rock and Chuck Kelly from the one and only Grist House. I'm drinking a dessert sour from none other than the brewing legend in Millvale. Grab a beer and come hang while we all nerd out. Cheers
It's five o'clock somewhere, which means it's always time for happy hour. Come hang as I drink a smooth and bubblegummy pale ale from Grist House and chat with my pal Smitty from Around The 412, part of the PodHub Network. Cheers
A live sporting event? GET AHT. Join me as I recap the NFL Draft from this past weekend and dig into the Steelers offensive woes, all while I drink a fruit-loaded tartshake IPA from Cinderlands Beer Co.
Hey, a guest! Come hang today as I drink a juicy IPA from Eleventh Hour in Lawrenceville and chat it up with my pal Jason Grilli about the Pirates' 2013 Wild Card Game vs. the Cincinnati Reds, life as a reliever in the MLB, and life in general.
All about the classic underdog story in this one. Come hang as I enjoy a delightful smoothie sour from Cellar Works Brewing in Sarver, PA and share my perspective as a wee 7th grader on the Steelers run to become Super Bowl champions in 2006.
