There is a fortress to which Christian soldiers can flee when the slings and arrows of temptation are overwhelming them. It's a place of rest and renewal. It's a place where battles are won. In this broadcast, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin offer directions to that stronghold and encouragement from the One who always leads us in triumph. The post Winning the Battle, Winning the War – Part 2 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
It's vital that the soldier of Christ knows his capabilities and his vulnerabilities. The enemy is well aware of them and prepares the battlefield to exploit both. Today Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin share the secrets of victory found in knowing God and knowing ourselves. The post Winning the Battle, Winning the War – Part 1 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
Satan's grand strategy is worked out on the field of battle. It's his tactics in the ordinary course of every man's day that can wound every man's life. In this broadcast, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin identify those tactics so that you can be victorious in the spiritual war. The post Under Attack: The Enemy's Strategy – Part 2 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
Satan's strategy is simple and efficient…he wants to remake us in his image. He wants us to want what he wants…and he wants us to believe it's the right thing to do. Today Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin reveal those wants and temptations so that we can see them in the light of God's Word. The post Under Attack: The Enemy's Strategy – Part 1 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
It has been said: “the best defense is a good offense.” That's certainly true in spiritual warfare. In this message, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin talk about our offensive weapons and how we should use them to defend against Satan's attacks. The post Under Attack: The Enemy – Part 4 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
Satan is no mere strategist. He marshals his demonic forces and takes decisive action. He's formidable but he's not invincible. In this broadcast, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin brief us on the enemy's strategies and troop movements so that we can effectively counter them in God's strength. The post Under Attack: The Enemy – Part 3 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
Those who want to love God and serve Him know they're in a battle. Those who fight successfully are also aware that their adversary knows them and knows them well. Today Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin outline the battle plans our enemy uses to defeat us. They also share how we can triumph over those schemes. The post Under Attack: The Enemy – Part 2 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
It's a truism in war that one must know his or her adversary. Failing that means losing the war. Today Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin begin an examination of Satan so that we can identify him, his strategies, and his tactics. Knowing that can equip us for the ancient war in which we fight. The post Under Attack: The Enemy – Part 1 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
There is a ravenous beast lurking in every man. Sometimes it's large and unmistakable, sometimes disguised and insidious. But it's always there. Today Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin take an expansive look at anger; where it comes from, what it can do, and how it can be tamed. The post Under Attack: Anger appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
Sexual immorality has gravely wounded many soldiers for Christ. But there are practical ways to train for moral fitness so that battlefield injuries don't take you out of the fight. That's the focus Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin offer in this program. The post Under Attack: Lust – Part 2 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
If you give it any quarter lust will defeat you. One gap in the line, one lapse in vigilance and it will have you. Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin prepare us to face the struggle every man deals with and to be more than conquerors through Christ. The post Under Attack: Lust – Part 1 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
Critical to any conflict is the protection of your forces. An insecure perimeter will compromise any battlefield initiative you try to undertake. With that in mind, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin review your reasons for confidence, in whose you are, and where you stand before Him. The post Under Attack: Insecurity appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
God designed you for sexual satisfaction. It's not something we often talk about in church circles but it's essential to understand in our fight for purity. So today, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin talk about it. In their scriptural and practical conversation, you'll discover the path to wholeness and holiness in the bedroom. The post Under Attack: Sexual Satisfaction appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
You've worked really hard in the trenches to provide for your family and to serve the Lord. Now the temptation is to coast through the remainder of your days. But Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin are here to tell you that that's not God's plan. In this broadcast, they talk about keeping your motivation high and your legacy of obedience protected. The post Under Attack: Complacency appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
Sinful pride can be camouflaged by pious words and feigned modesty. But it often reveals itself when the battle for obedience is intense and our focus is diverted. In this broadcast, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin help us identify prideful attitudes, before the attack, so that we can bring them under the command of Jesus Christ. The post Under Attack: Pride appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
God has made many American believers “Rich in this present world.” Unfortunately, this present world often uses those riches to draw us away from God. The one who blessed us with prosperity in the first place. Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin share ways to counter the world's attack and thereby truly enjoy the wealth God has given us. The post Under Attack: The Burden – Part 3 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
The weight of “having it all” can bend and break us. Too often our heart's desire can leave us disillusioned, defeated, and despairing. It's a conflict every man wages and can only be won through one battle-tested principle from God's Word. In today's message, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin share that principle. It's a truth that was vividly demonstrated in the life and words of one Biblical character. The post Under Attack: The Burden – Part 2 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.

Have you ever stumbled home after a fight for godliness and wondered if the pain was worth it? Perhaps even thinking about surrendering to your darker desires or the world's easier path. Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin share a cautionary tale from one of the Bible's greatest heroes. A man who found surrender to be much more costly than the fight. In this broadcast, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin talk about your options when the battle gets tough and your soul gets weary. When today, or for that matter each day, is over what will you have left to give? Will you reserve a little for yourself or leave it all on the battlefield for Christ? That's the question Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin examine in this broadcast. Listen so that you can reexamine your commitment to the battle. The post Under Attack: The Present – Part 2 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
When Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own,” he was voicing a key strategy for the spiritual battles we face. Today, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin expand on that strategy with an exploration of “living in the moment” and all that means for Christian soldiers. The post Under Attack: The Present – Part 1 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
You are to: “Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” What does that mean and how is it accomplished? Today, Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin continue a look at the weapons of the spiritual armory, and how they're to be used so that you... The Apostle Paul told us: “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” Do you know what those weapons are? Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin begin a look at the spiritual armory and talk about getting ready to do battle with divine power. The post Preparing for Battle: Weapons – Part 1 appeared first on The Journey with Ron Moore.
Having “your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from “the gospel of peace” is a good start to the spiritual battle. Where you place your feet is your next concern. Today Ron Moore and men's minister Tunch Ilkin talk about the ground on which you fight and how it can affect your success or failure. This was a time unlike any other in our lifetime. The Coronavirus pandemic hit hard and affected every aspect of our lives, from sports to politics and religion. This book contains all kinds of stories about Pittsburgh, Western Pennsylvania and national figures and events and how the hospitalizations and deaths changed things forever. Tiger Woods, Adam Frazier, Ben Roethlisberger, Mike Tomlin, Tunch Ilkin, Bryan Reynolds, Roberto Clemente, Muhammad Ali are just some of sports figures that we see through the in-depth reporting of a writer who mixed with all of them in a 65-year sports-writing career. Pittsburgh sports author Jim O'Brien has written 31 books in his “Pittsburgh Proud” series. O'Brien was the founding editor (1970) for 23 years for Street & Smith's Basketball Yearbook and a contributing writer and editor emeritus for an additional 14 years, and authored The Complete Handbook of Pro Basketball for three years. He wrote a column on pro basketball for The Sporting News for nine years. He was a staff writer for the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin, The Miami News, The New York Post and The Pittsburgh Press. He wrote stories for SPORT magazine, Newsweek, Basketball Times, The Football News and The Washington Post.
If you've listened to the past two episodes, you've heard my republished conversations with two great leaders who both passed recently: Tunch Ilkin and Jay Passavant. These interviews have had me reflecting on what it means to leave a legacy, particularly as a leader.Today, I talk about why it's important to leave a legacy. I share some questions everyone should ask themselves, and I emphasize the importance of recognizing and accepting that you will die. I share a collection of Biblical and non-Biblical quotes on death, and I note that no one is promised tomorrow. I call you to stop taking life and leadership for granted, and I note that there are no do-overs in life. I stress the importance of living intentionally, and I note that people and relationships are what really matter in the end. I talk about how to create a life plan and the power of being honest with yourself, and I note that God's plan for you is better than any plan you could come up with on your own."It's only when you recognize that you have a finite number of days on this planet that you can actually begin to live with wisdom, to live with purpose, and to live with intentionality."- Doug Smith"If you're not happy with the life that you've lived...here's the exciting news: you're still breathing."- Doug Smith"At the end of the day, we're not remembered for what we do, but by the people that we impact."- Doug Smith Key Takeaways this week on the L3 Leadership Podcast:● One day, you really are going to die.● Life goes quickly, no matter how long you're here.● No one is promised tomorrow.● If you were going to die today, what would you think and feel about your life?● Stop taking life and leadership for granted.● Do you know how beautiful life is?● Everything is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.● You have one shot to make this work.● Determine what you want your legacy to be and start living intentionally.● People will summarize your life in one sentence. Tunch Ilkin played football for the Pittsburgh Steelers for many seasons before becoming a broadcaster for the team for the rest of his career. He spent 35 years serving homeless men, women, and children of Pittsburgh at Light of Life Rescue Mission. He was also on staff at the Bible Chapel, where he made a significant impact on countless men's lives by leading their men's retreat. He also raised an incredible family. Tunch's top priority in life was fulfilling the plan that God had for him. It was the center of everything that he did, and through this mission, he impacted thousands upon thousands of people with his life. He lived an extraordinary life and has left behind an incredible legacy. Once you met and interacted with Tunch Ilkin, your life was never the same.Today's episode is a throwback to a conversation I had with Tunch in 2013. In it, Tunch shares his story, his thoughts on leadership, and a lot more. He talks about what it means to be a mentor and a servant leader and notes the role of humility in these pursuits, pointing to the best examples he's seen. He shares the story of how he came to Christ and talks about the power of the fact that, although we can't earn our salvation, God gives it to us freely anyway. He shares the experience of converting to Christianity from Islam and offers his biggest message to men. He also talks about the power of accountability and what is required to be an accountability partner.“I'm not the brightest guy in the room, but I can be faithful, I can be available, and I can be teachable.
