Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers' plans in the NFL Draft will prioritize leadership and great locker room players, especially on offense. While the defense has successfully passed down quality leadership to quality leaders over the decades, the offense didn't get a chance to do that since Ben Roethlisberger, David DeCastro and Maurkice Pouncey all left the team within a year of each other. Chris Carter explains why Russell Wilson is a fit for the effort to reshape the offense, and get back to having leaders that keep the team headed in the right direction. Also, he'll go over just how many players at the right positions must be taken before the Steelers select Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson in the first round. Finally, it's Mock Draft Monday. Bergin is joined by the Bleav Network's Joe DeLeone and Blake Ruffino. It marks the first time the Steelers have drafted an offensive linemen in the first or second round of the NFL Draft since 2012 when they selected David DeCastro. Jones' selection could force starting left tackle Dan Moore Jr. to slide to right tackle in a position battle with Chukwuma Okorafor. Jones gives second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett protection to his blindside and should help the Steelers establish their running game with Najee Harris. The Steelers made a few moves before we got on the air, including the signing of another linebacker and cutting one free. The team signed Elandon Roberts who had over 100 tackles last year with the Dolphins. In a transition move, the team cut Myles Jack. The guys are in favor of the move because it feels like Omar Khan is doing things a little bit differently, for the better.  Patrick Peterson has had his introductory press conference and says Kenny Pickett has some “pizazz” to him. Peterson is still confident he can have a big impact on any defense even at 32 years old. The guys determined which WR1 you feel comfortable with Peterson facing based on the Steelers opponents next season. Nate Herbig, another Steelers addition, had high praise for Andy Weidl and the guys really got the feel that Weidl is having a lot of input in the off-season. Greg just wrapped up his 43rd season as an NFL films expert. Greg liked Kenny Pickett a lot coming out of Pitt and that he was the best QB of last year's class because of his understanding of concepts. He said there are definitely things Pickett needs to work on, but that is expected with a young quarterback. Greg said sometimes Pickett leaves the pocket early and abandons the play not realizing how the pocket is forming around him, but he looked pretty poised for a rookie. Greg made his comparison between Pickett and Joe Burrow. He said it's not a bad idea to add talent along the offensive line with a young quarterback, saying the interior of the line needs more work. Greg said Najee Harris is a huge question mark in the Steelers offense as a foundational piece. Greg praised George Pickens coming out of college, saying he was the most talented guy in the class last year at his position.  ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler joined the show. Jeremy thinks it would be tough for Mitch Trubisky to stay in Pittsburgh at the current number, but likely released instead of traded. The Steelers offensive line looked brutally bad on Saturday night. How dire is that unit? They have so little talent up front and have become too bull-headed to create a disaster. Chris referenced the 2016 offensive line, which featured Maurkice Pouncey (1st round pick), David DeCastro (1st round pick) and Marcus Gilbert (2nd round pick), and wondered why the Steelers have gone away from that formula? We heard an answer from Kendrick Green, who said he hasn't done anything to win the left guard battle against Kevin Dotson. The guys agreed that Dotson needs to be the man at left guard by week one. There is severe worry for James Daniels, who was supposed to be the leader of this group.  HOF left tackle Tony Boselli joined the show. Tony was at the game Saturday night as a former Jaguars offensive lineman. To put it lightly, Tony said the Steelers offensive line struggled against Jacksonville. He highlighted Dan Moore Jr. struggling in one-on-one action with Josh Allen. He said the Steelers QBs were getting “harassed” for the entire first half and most of the game. He said technique is a change the Steelers can make up front that goes a long, long way. He said there is an unfair battle with playing on the offensive line because you are almost always facing superior athletes, but technique can be the great equalizer. He said offensive line coach is the most important hire for any head coach. Unfortunately, besides the Mike Munchak era, it doesn't appear like that coaching position has been taken very seriously. He said center is the point of communication and some guys aren't quite built to be a master of communicating along with the skills needed to play the position. He said the lack of reps through camp makes it hard for the guys to look good as a unit right off the bat. Tony had high praise for Kenny Pickett from Saturday night and was very impressed by the 2-minute drill before halftime. He said Pickett is probably the best quarterback on the roster and said it should be the best guy regardless of age or experience level. He doesn't like the argument of throwing a QB into the fire too early, he said “you're good or you're not.” He really likes the quick decision making from Pickett early on. White Hot PIT-JAX takes review.

Rams Draft Results Reaction: Logan Bruss, 3.104

The LA Rams usually draft for the future, but on Friday, Les Snead and Sean McVay drafted for need and selected a player who will compete to start at right guard as a rookie. He will most likely win that job. Bruss never had a holding penalty over 32 starts at Wisconsin, and he didn't allow a single sack over the last two seasons, with 11 starts at right tackle and five starts at right guard. He has some expected physical limitations that will kick him inside to guard at the next level, but Bruss actually compares favorably to former first round picks Chance Warmack, David DeCastro, and Joshua Garnett, so seeing him in the third round here makes plenty of sense given his quality play for the Badgers. Bruss also has versatility and could maybe play right tackle at some point down the line, if Rob Havenstein leaves for one reason or another, and the pick will obviously carry plenty of long-term value if Bruss turns out to be a good NFL player. This just happens to be one of the rare ones who is expected to contribute right away, joining some former Les Snead picks like Cooper Kupp and Jordan Fuller. First, he needs to beat out Bobby Evans and company to start, which I think he will. For more, I recorded an instant reaction podcast to the pick and went over Dane Brugler's entire scouting report on Bruss, Bruss's measurements at the combine, his NFL comps, his college history, and what McVay had to say about him competing at right guard this year. It is finally DRAFT DAY. The guys went through the latest buzz and debated if it's obvious that the Steelers take Malik Willis. Chris said he'd be fine with that pick because of Willis' upside and potential. Poni thinks down the road, it will be remembered as the worst pick of the Colbert-Tomlin era. CBS NFL Draft analyst Ryan Wilson joined the show. Ryan gave final thoughts on Malik Willis. He then got into some of his mock draft. He has Matt Corral ranked first among QBs followed by Sam Howell, but also gave his insight on the other potential first round QBs. He said Devin Lloyd could be a player that surprisingly slips to the Steelers at 20, like David DeCastro did 10 years ago. Ryan included some sleepers in the mid-late rounds. The guys asked Ryan about the Georgia defensive stars that will be littered throughout round one. Ryan's official prediction – Chris Olave.  Donny Football's official Steelers first round prediction.

Ben Roethlisberger and JuJu Smith-Schuster were leaders of the offense last year. The season before, Maurkice Pouncey, Al Villanueva and David Decastro were on that list as well. Now four are retired (or not on a team) and only Kansas City's Smith-Schuster remains in the league. When will a new leader emerge for the offense? This will be just one of the subjects that will be discussed in the latest installment of the BTSC family of podcasts, The Scho Bro Show with BTSC Editor Dave Schofield and his older brother Rich. As always, it sure is a good time to get on the airwaves and discuss the black-and-gold. On this show, Dave and Big Bro Scho break down all things Steelers, still talk stats, and also answer questions from fans! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

On today's show we get fired up about Pro Football Focus ranking the Chargers as the 20th best roster in the NFL and get into voicemails about adding free agents now like David DeCastro and what free agents will be available in 2022.ESPN released an article ranking every roster in the NFL using PFF metrics and the Chargers somehow ended up at 20th on the list. We break down why the ranking is preposterous, and although there are some roster questions, the overall talent outweighs it.To kickoff our fan voicemails we take a look at why the Chargers still have so much salary cap space at this point in the offseason and if All-Pro guard David DeCastro or any other free agents could still be added. To wrap up the show we are looking towards the future and the 2022 offseason. First we discuss if Mike Williams or Uchenna Nwosu is more important to bring back and if the Chargers could pursue someone like Davante Adams.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
