Weekly messages with Pastor Todd Starnes from the Sunday morning worship services at Odessa First Assembly of God in Odessa, TX.

Rejection wounds can distort our perspective, causing us to misread situations and people through the lens of past pain. Jesus himself experienced rejection, yet was chosen by God for great honor - just as we are. The path from rejection to acceptance follows the ACCEPTED framework: Admit past rejection honestly, Claim God's unconditional love, Choose to forgive those who hurt you, Expect some rejection as you grow spiritually, Plant God's promises in your mind, Thank God for what you've learned, Encourage others from your healed wounds, and Draw on the Holy Spirit's power. When God looks at you, He sees His Son - you are defined not by who rejected you, but by the One who chose you.

The story of Adam and Eve reveals how the enemy attacks our identity by twisting God's words and making us believe He's withholding good things from us. God originally designed humanity to live in abundance with only one boundary, but Satan reframed this as restriction. When we try to define our own identity, we end up covering ourselves with fig leaves of shame and inadequacy. However, God comes looking for us in our brokenness, removes our inadequate coverings, and clothes us with His righteousness. True freedom isn't found in the absence of restraint but in living according to God's design, where we discover our identity as His beloved children.

Your identity isn't defined by your failures or brokenness, but by your original design as someone created in God's image. Before there was shame, there was purpose. Before there was confusion, there was identity. Genesis reveals that humans uniquely bear God's image, capable of relationship with Him and reflecting His character. Shame makes us withdraw from God's presence, but redemption restores what was lost from the beginning. Instead of introducing yourself by your failures, remember what Scripture says: you are a child of God, chosen, loved, forgiven, and created with purpose. Don't let shame keep you from embracing your true identity in Christ.

Life often brings discouragement through opposition, unmet expectations, and delayed dreams. The book of Haggai shows God's people struggling to rebuild the temple after returning from exile, feeling defeated when their new temple didn't match Solomon's grandeur. God's response was clear: Be strong and get to work, for I am with you. He reminded them of His promises and called them His signet ring - His personal seal of authority. As believers today, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit as God's guarantee that He will complete what He started in us. When discouragement strikes, we must remember God's promises, take action, and trust that His Spirit within us provides the strength we need.

Three armies found themselves dying of thirst in the wilderness after making plans without consulting God first. When they finally sought the Lord through the prophet Elisha, God gave them an unexpected solution: dig ditches in the middle of a drought. Though it seemed foolish, their obedience prepared the way for a miraculous provision of water that not only saved their lives but also confused their enemies and led to complete victory. This story teaches us that God's solutions often don't make sense to human logic, but nothing is too hard for Him. Sometimes we must prepare for the breakthrough through acts of faith before we see the miracle.

Life has a way of pressing in on us from all sides, but these moments of pressure aren't meant to break us - they're meant to produce something beautiful. Just as olives must be crushed to release their valuable oil, we must sometimes experience pressure to release what God wants to produce in us. Throughout history, great men and women of faith understood that prayer was essential, not optional. When life gets heavy, we need to stop guarding our hearts from the burden and pray like God is the only one who can fix it. Prayer should be honest, focused on dependence rather than just outcomes, and persistent even when answers don't come immediately.

What happens when God's Word is rediscovered and taken seriously again? Renewal begins. From the story of King Josiah, this message calls us back to wholehearted obedience. Not to earn God's favor, but to respond to His grace. Renewal remembers what we once practiced with fire. Renewal steps into obedience we have never sustained before. Renewal also requires subtraction, laying aside what competes for first place. The fire of the Holy Spirit is already in you. It just needs tending. Join us for this timely message from Pastor Todd at Odessa First Assembly and allow God to realign your heart, awaken your hunger, and set the direction for the days ahead.

King Jehoshaphat faced overwhelming enemy armies but chose worship over warfare. Instead of relying on military might, he led his people in fasting, prayer, and worship. God responded by declaring the battle belonged to Him, not them. When they marched out with singers leading the charge, God caused the enemy armies to turn on each other. This teaches us that worship changes our atmosphere, perspective, and circumstances. Sometimes our greatest battles are won not through our own strength, but through surrendering to God in worship and trust.

Worship reaches far beyond a Sunday song set. It rises from a life that gives God honor in the quiet places, the busy places, and the broken places. Real worship begins when we offer ourselves to Him day after day, not only when music fills the room. As our hearts turn toward Him, our view shifts. God grows larger in our sight and our troubles shrink back into their proper size. Worship is not a performance for people. It is a gift placed before the only One who deserves it. Our bodies and emotions can join the offering through standing, kneeling, lifting our hands, or resting silently in His presence. At the center of it all, worship is a work of the spirit. It opens us to the presence of God and invites Him to shape us in ways nothing else can.

God desires to command blessing into our lives, but it requires faithful obedience and proper stewardship. According to Deuteronomy 28, when we fully obey God's commands, we experience blessings in every area of life. The key principle is recognizing that everything belongs to God and we are merely stewards. There are four levels of blessing: the bag (scarcity), the barrel (daily supply), the basket (surplus), and the barn (commanded blessing). Generosity and faithfulness with what we have unlocks God's provision. The path to blessing begins with faithful obedience, starting wherever you are and being consistent with giving and stewardship.

Unbelief is choosing to trust what we see instead of what God has promised. The story of the Israelites at Kadesh Barnea illustrates this perfectly - while ten spies focused on giants and obstacles, Joshua and Caleb saw the same challenges but trusted in God's power. Unbelief magnifies problems and makes us romanticize our past instead of embracing God's promises for our future. Faith doesn't ignore reality; it includes God in the equation. When facing difficulties, we must shift our focus from the problem to the problem solver, remembering God's faithfulness and trusting His promises over our circumstances.

We all face moments when failure feels final, but God's plan for your life already includes your failures and still leads you to your purpose. Peter's denial of Jesus teaches us that following at a distance guarantees failure, yet Jesus knew Peter would fail and still called him. When we fail, Jesus intercedes for us and looks at us with love, not condemnation. Repentance is what keeps failure from becoming final. God's restoration doesn't make you start over - it returns you to His original design for your life. Your failures don't define you; God's love does.

Ever feel exhausted right after a major breakthrough? Elijah called down fire from heaven, then immediately wanted to give up. Sometimes our greatest victories leave us most vulnerable to weariness. The key isn't avoiding rest, but it's learning to abide in Christ while we recover. Are you seeking God's hands or His face?

Are you letting fear hold you back from God's purpose? The same God who delivered David from lions and bears wants to deliver you from your giants today! Fear is contagious, but faith is transformative. What voices are you listening to? Remember: courage isn't the absence of fear—it's running toward your Goliath knowing God is with you.

What if the entire Christian faith could be summed up in just two commands? Jesus did exactly that! He said love God completely and love your neighbor as yourself. But who exactly is your neighbor? Hint: they might be the person you least expect.

Jesus calls His followers the salt of the earth and light of the world, describing not just what Christians do but who they fundamentally are. As salt, believers preserve society, bring healing through truth, and enhance the flavor of life by drawing attention to Christ. As light, Christians cannot hide their transformed nature - it naturally shines through in all areas of life. This identity makes believers essential to God's plan, serving as ambassadors who make the invisible God visible through their lives and good works that ultimately bring glory to the Father.

When the world pushes back against your faith, remember: it's not you they're rejecting—it's Jesus in you. The opposition you face might actually be evidence you're on the right path! Jesus promised the kingdom of heaven belongs to those persecuted for righteousness. Are you experiencing pushback for your biblical values? Discover how God sustains, strengthens, and shapes you through opposition, turning persecution into blessing.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Persecution means facing pressure, rejection, or harm when our lives reflect Jesus. Today, 380 million Christians worldwide face persecution, with many experiencing violence, imprisonment, social rejection, verbal attacks, and systemic discrimination. The world persecutes Christians because the Gospel fundamentally opposes worldly values. Yet the reward for enduring persecution is the kingdom of heaven—not just a future hope but a present reality of revival, healing, and transformation. When we face persecution for righteousness, we gain the kingdom both now and forever.

In a world of constant conflict, Christians are called to be active peacemakers, not just peacekeepers. True peacemaking begins with having peace with God and allowing the peace of God to rule in our hearts. Only then can we effectively reconcile others to God and to one another. Practical steps include forgiving repeatedly, taking initiative in reconciliation, and refusing to carry others' offenses. When we live as peacemakers, we reflect our heavenly Father's character, and people recognize us as children of God. The goal isn't merely avoiding conflict but actively creating peace even in chaotic circumstances.

True purity starts from within ✨ 'Keep your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs of life.' When God works in the control center of your life, everything changes—your thoughts, desires, and actions. It's an inside-out transformation! #PureHeart #SpiritualGrowth #HeartMatters

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. This beatitude teaches us that mercy is the currency of God's kingdom - compassion and forgiveness toward others, especially when undeserved. True mercy meets people in their mess and helps them toward restoration. As recipients of God's lavish mercy that erased our spiritual debt, we are called to extend that same mercy to others. When we choose mercy, we reflect God's heart, disarm bitterness, and break cycles of revenge. The forgiven must become forgivers, releasing the poison of bitterness from our hearts.

God designed our souls to crave Him, yet we often try to fill that spiritual hunger with worldly substitutes. In Matthew 5:6, Jesus promises satisfaction to those who hunger for righteousness - which encompasses right standing with God, right living before Him, and right action in the world. True spiritual maturity is marked by what we genuinely desire. When we pursue Christ wholeheartedly, we experience a satisfaction so complete that other temptations lose their appeal. Our spiritual cravings will lead us somewhere - the question is whether they'll lead us to temporary fulfillment or lasting satisfaction in Jesus.

What did Jesus mean when He said, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth”? In this episode, we pull apart the misconceptions of meekness as weakness and discover its true meaning: strength under control. From Peter's wild sword-swinging moment to Moses' humble restraint, we'll see how meekness is not passivity but power surrendered to God. Psalm 37 lays out the posture of the meek—trusting, delighting, committing, waiting, and refraining from anger. In a world loud with outrage, the meek don't grab for control—they receive an inheritance from the Father. This conversation will challenge you to trade anger for patience, pride for surrender, and self-assertion for Spirit-led strength.

Can you be blessed while broken? Jesus says yes! In the Beatitudes, mourning isn't weakness—it's the pathway to divine comfort. God doesn't just offer distant consolation; He comes alongside us in our deepest pain. What if your greatest hurt is preparing to become your greatest ministry? #FindingComfortInBrokenness #OFA #Beatitudes #pastortodd

Are you trying to earn God's favor through your own efforts? Jesus flips the script: 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.' The kingdom doesn't come to those who have it all together - it comes to those who know they don't. It's not the polished that God shows up to - it's the broken. What would change if you truly believed God meets you in your surrender?
