The New Abnormal
Trump Ditches GOP in Secret Midterm Panic

The New Abnormal

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 27, 2026 39:17

Nico Hines and Daily Beast political correspondent Farrah Tomazin discuss Donald Trump's increasingly risky strategy for the 2026 midterms, as the president looks to make himself the centerpiece of Republican campaigns despite growing concerns about his approval ratings, the economy, and his party's chances in key races. They break down Trump's control of a $400 million super PAC, his controversial intervention in Republican primaries, and the warning signs emerging from candidates he has backed—including a South Carolina race where Republican voters openly booed his name. They also examine the mystery surrounding Trump's massive political war chest and Karoline Leavitt's move from the White House to MAGA Inc., raising fresh questions about what Trump is building beyond the midterms. The episode then turns to Trump's health, his weight, stamina, and growing public references to his own mortality, with his age becoming an increasingly important factor as he prepares to put himself at the center of another election campaign. This summer, however, travelers are ditching the bucket list for deeper experiences like music festivals, traditional village stays, and hands-on cultural activities that leave a lasting impression. Why is tourism shifting from sightseeing to genuine connection, and how are cities and rural communities adapting to meet this new demand? On the show: Steve, Yushan & Yushun

Their relationship, however, unraveled spectacularly once Maxwell was arrested in 2020. Borgerson reportedly ended the relationship over a phone call while she was incarcerated, later distancing himself from her legal battles and avoiding the media spotlight. Friends told reporters that Borgerson felt deceived by Maxwell, claiming she had drawn him into a scandal he neither anticipated nor could control. By the time Maxwell was convicted in 2021, Borgerson had largely vanished from public view, having resigned from CargoMetrics and relocated to focus on rebuilding his life. The relationship that once symbolized refuge and reinvention for Maxwell ultimately collapsed under the same weight of deception and disgrace that destroyed her wider social circle.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

General News  00:49 Amazon fixing bug that billed some AWS customers billions of dollars  A bug in the AWS billing computation subsystem generated inflated billing estimates for some customers, with one Reddit user reporting a quoted estimate near 2.5 billion dollars for a single month. In contrast, others saw figures ranging from millions to hundreds of millions. The issue began late Thursday, and an initial rollback attempt on Friday morning failed to resolve it, suggesting the root cause was more complex than a recent configuration change. Amazon confirmed the billing estimates do not reflect actual usage or charges, meaning affected customers will not be responsible for the inflated amounts shown in the console. Amazon has not disclosed whether any accounts were suspended or paused due to the billing errors, leaving open questions about operational impact during the incident. The event highlights the importance of billing system reliability for cloud providers, since inaccurate estimates at this scale can cause confusion and concern even when the underlying charges are not real. 01:29 Justin – “Amazon doesn’t bill you in the middle of the month, so it’s a pretty low risk that you were gonna get billed or invoice directly on that date, unless you happen to already be overdue on a payment and you were happening to update your credit card at the same time. I don’t think that’s really a big risk for this particular scenario.”  05:04 County With 37 Data Centers Asks Schools to ‘Conserve Electricity' Listener note: Paywall article  H

This week, Josh is joined by Steve Buttram, Justin Eshenbaugh, and Tate Wells for a conversation centered around Paxton's message on the tension between pleasure, legalism, and the grace of God. Through practical examples ranging from family traditions and work habits to music, generosity, and Bible reading, the team explores what it looks like to avoid the ditches of chasing pleasure at all costs or trying to earn God's approval through performance. The discussion is honest, humorous, and full of practical wisdom for recognizing when good things begin to take God's rightful place. The conversation also looks ahead to this week's message in Ecclesiastes and takes time to celebrate Justin as he prepares to begin a new season of ministry in North Carolina. The hosts reflect on God's faithfulness, the importance of following His calling, and the lasting impact of investing in others. Whether you're wrestling with finding balance in your own life or simply looking for encouragement, this episode offers thoughtful conversation that points back to the grace and wisdom found in Christ.   ASK A QUESTION - TELL A STORY - CONNECT WITH US

We kick off with three things you need to know — including a Fourth of July firework and fire update, water-wise landscaping saving millions of gallons at the new Utah State Prison, and more. Then we break down the controversial World Cup red card reversal for the U.S. team and what actually happened on the field. We ask whether leisure actually makes us happy (spoiler: often not), and react to Sony's announcement that it will stop making physical PlayStation discs in January 2028 — a move that has gamers fired up. Plus, back-to-school bargain hunting is already underway, and we look at whether EV batteries are outlasting expectations. KSL Investigative Reporter Daniella Rivera joins us in studio to preview part of KSL’s special series, "Beyond Box Elder — The Bet on Data Centers," which takes viewers inside Virginia's Loudoun County, the data center capital of the world, for lessons on what's coming to Utah.   KSL Brightside streams live weekdays 12–3 PM, with a YouTube-exclusive live stream from 12–1 PM and radio + YouTube from 1–3 PM.   Follow KSL Brightside on social media! Ben Franklin was incredibly close to his son . . until William, then NJ’s royal governor, declared his allegiance to the King and went to prison for it. He and Ben never spoke again. In this conversation, David Seroy of Alpen Labs explains to Bitcoin Magazine's Shinobi why a Bitcoin-backed stablecoin is the credible alternative the space has been missing. What if the very stories you think are 'just ordinary' are actually your greatest superpowers? April Bell, wisdom story alchemist and founder of innovative storytelling methodologies, reveals why the moments we dismiss as obvious to us are often amazing to others. After spending nearly two decades helping everyone from corporate leaders to community elders uncover the wisdom embedded in their life experiences, April discovered she was the reluctant storyteller herself. Her journey from personal historian to story alchemist began when she realized that vulnerability isn't weakness - it's the secret ingredient that transforms surface-level conversations into life-altering connections. Through her Story Catcher app and transformational workshops, April has developed a unique approach to helping people understand not just what they believe, but why they believe it, creating a foundation for clear decision-making in careers, relationships, and personal growth. In this conversation, April shares the exact moment she abandoned her polished elevator speech at a networking lunch and used a simple three-level exercise that completely transformed how 12 strangers connected with each other. You'll discover why every day can be extraordinary when you start listening for the stories in your life, how to practice vulnerability without oversharing, and the framework April uses to turn tangent-filled conversations into powerful wisdom stories. April also reveals her 'obvious to you, amazing to others' principle and explains why the cookie-cutter success formulas aren't working anymore - people are hungry for authentic stories that give them permission to follow their own hearts.Want to grow your podcast, land more guest appearances, and save hours every week?
