I've been wondering if ethical theories can be dangerous. Not because of the implications of the theory, but because of the way that discovering a new ethical idea puts you at odds with everyone else. Discovering a new ethical idea often challenges people's choices, which makes you a threat to their ways of life. http://www.twitter.com/BasicMorality http://mad.science.blog
How toxic rich business owners might resemble school shooters. This clip is from episode 28 with guest Kevin Ronca. This clip seems straightforward and useful for understanding political conflict and low empathy behaviors. I'm considering doing short and sweet clips of key points from longer episodes as a trend. What do you think? http://mad.science.blog http://www.twitter.com/BasicMorality
An exploration of how those with schizophrenia may think differently than "ordinary" people. It is argued that ordinary people are delusional as well and this isn't the distinguishing factor. Ordinary people do not create beliefs in science or religion but instead, consume these ideas from those around them. The schizophrenic may either fail to conform or create their own beliefs/hypotheses. Though, it is more complex than this. http://www.twitter.com/BasicMorality https://mad.science.blog/ Find the song at the end: https://soundcloud.com/cosmicrush/screaming-echoes

There is a quite lengthy description of one of the cooler ideas explored in this episode below. Some links first: If you'd like to support these projects and help me continue making more: https://www.patreon.com/qwerkyscience My Twitter is here: https://twitter.com/BasicMorality I think the main effect of interest with psychedelics could be disruption of conditioned responses which might allow new conditioning to override established responses. In some sense, this is sort of what I think REBUS is proposing underneath it all. I think even the effects on perception, attention, and cognition are from destabilizing conditioned responses and allowing us to observe the world and use our mind in ways that we have been conditioned to not do. We fear ego death in waking life because the ego is partly developed through avoidance of the things we fear. Lacking this puts us in confrontation with those fears and ego death strips us of our habitual coping strategies to solve our fears. One example would be learning to put on a social mask to avoid the fear of being harmed socially. During the come up on psychedelics, our learned social behavioral responses may disappear and we feel naked, while our conditioned fears that tell us to be socially afraid still remain. At super high doses, we might blockout even the conditioned response to fear social situations. This can allow us to observe that we had such a conditioned mindset and that alternative ways of existing are out there. A life where we are not clinging to the habitual way of seeing and behaving. It's like fear forces us into a box of limited behaviors and perceptions and sometimes this brings us misery. Like an addict who fears the withdrawals. Like those with PTSD who fear engaging with their triggers/cues.

Come observe my cringey voice-acting in a dystopian short about the race to singularity and the hedonistic imperative. This was created a long time ago and now it has been updated for quality! I also created all of the music in this, which can be found on any music app by searching Gaej. Most of it is from the album Diality. Warning, this is dark. People sometimes claim that psychedelics give a false sense of insight. Or that they generate bad or false insights. I challenge this claim by showing that insights are generally false and that delusional ideas are normal. Our society operates through hierarchies of authority on knowledge and most people do not think of insights or original thoughts, but instead, they submit to what experts tell them to believe. Having original thoughts is the domain of experts and psychedelics simply disinhibit our thinking. Had an amazing discussion with the wonderful Jeremy Hadfield. Bipolar disorder is discussed as an evolutionary adaptation that benefits the group, playing the role of the 'shaman' who can break from the cultural norms and help define new social rules. The lack of aversion may help these individuals oppose social norms and allow divergent thoughts that oppose the consensus. We attempt to elaborate on, define, and understand the manic condition. Jeremy has very interesting perspectives on human history, bipolar disorder, and philosophy. Special thanks to the two patrons, Abhishaike Mahajan and Charles Wright! I believe psychedelics could heal schizophrenia, but it highly depends on the context of the situation. I also believe most cases of schizophrenia are really a response to trauma and negative experience.

My first pod-movie release! The birth of a sufferless species seems to solve the 100-year long vegan crises for humanity. The species’ existence is perpetually positive, which has implications to its’ treatment by humans. Artificial Intelligence intervenes. Some say that animals are less intelligent only according to anthropocentric definitions. I would like to clarify, that even by anthropocentric definitions, we still may not be the most intelligent. This post discusses this topic in depth, criticizing this assumption that I believe stems from dogma, similar to the assumption that Earth is the center of the universe. We may have the strongest sociological intelligence of all animals, but individually, we are not very intelligent, where chimps are superior, due to pharmacological/physiological reasons, physiological reasons that directly relate to the precise factor that allows for strong sociological development: domestication. The blog post: https://mad.science.blog/2017/11/01/a-case-for-animal-superiority/
GRANDIOSITY Difference, or beneath. Grandiosity is the notion that you are superior to others around you. We can assume others are not like us, that they actually aren’t using an apparently simple façade, and that they are expressing their true selves. Then we will assume that the lack of complexity is because they are stupid. This is grandiosity. PARANOIA Similarity, or above. Paranoia is the notion that others may think similarly complex as the self. We can assume others are like us, that they think theoretically, abstractly, deeply, too deeply to a fault. Then people’s simple behaviors, and outward appearance can appear like a façade. Then, these schizophrenics might develop a social façade too. This is applicable to non-schizophrenics too tho. It’s just an exaggeration with schizophrenics. Trying to decipher other people’s hidden lives, beneath the façade, is paranoia. Link to the outro track: https://soundcloud.com/cosmicrush/aboveawe
