"Have you ever been a prisoner of perfection? Or a prisoner of any other label you or someone else has given yourself? You're not alone!" In this episode, Aileen introduces her "contract," an affirmation given to her by her personal development coach, which emphasizes her worth and authentic expression. Despite having received this affirmation seven months ago, she acknowledges the ongoing effort required to align her actions with it, particularly in terms of her health goals.Reflecting on her past, Aileen talks about the negative impact of labels, specifically those related to her ADHD. Aileen elaborates on the power of beliefs and shares an impactful message from a faith-based podcast by Hosanna Wong. The concept of "I am enough" resonates with her as it underscores the idea that self-beliefs determine one's life trajectory. Linking her recent podcast tagline change to these insights, Aileen discusses the synchronicity of her personal revelations. She acknowledges how past labels prompted a façade in the form of overachievement and masking, especially among those with ADHD. Aileen emphasizes the role of self-doubt that delayed her in pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors despite her husband's consistent belief in her capabilities and unwavering support. The episode concludes with Aileen's advice for breaking free from the perfectionism trap. Before we get into it, I wanted to thank you for sticking with me through this unplanned hiatus and getting to this episode. So, without further adieu, let's do this!I was going to start this episode like all the others as if nothing had happened. Like I didn't just disappear from my podcast for 8 weeks. I knew that getting into podcasting was gonna be a journey with you and me, and it was going to be perfectly imperfect. These past 8 weeks have taught an important thing?… are you sitting down? Hahaha It taught me that at my age, I am STILL a work in progress!! About 3 weeks ago, I attended a personal growth seminar hosted by Convergence Seminars. It's the called “Explorer.” It was a whole 3 days of deep diving into my psyche and discovering why I'm this WAY. This was deeper than having ADHD. This was highly emotional. There were these exercises where I was able to recognize how I've been programmed throughout the years as far back as children. And how this programming has influenced my behavior and the decisions I've made in my life so far. That was just a little glimpse of what I experienced there. If I had to tell you ALLLL about it, I'd be here all day and I still wouldn't be able to explain it properly. Especially, with this ADHD brain of mine which just doesn't absorb the little details, but does reap the benefits of the session through intuitive and emotional ways. There were so many takeaways from the 3 days, and I wanted to share a big one with you. I'm sure you've heard of personality tests ,right? I've actually taken 3 different personality tests and I've taken them twice. Once 4 years ago and again just recently. 2 popular and extensive ones were the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator and the other was the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator. And it's helped me realize and accept certain things about myself. Here's the thing about those personality tests though... they're not JUST for helping you get to know yourself. They're also to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, so you can apply different strategies to overcome the weaknesses and use your strengths to reach your goals. This is my mission statement here on this podcast. I'm not a medical professional, so I'm merely here to bring awareness to the weaknesses brought about by our ADHD and to shed light on the strengths that are also brought about by our ADHD. And I try to do this by recounting some of my experiences in hopes that you'll be able to relate or resonate with them.Links for more info on the personality type indicator:Meyers-Briggs: https://www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/Riso-Hudson Enneagram: https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/rhetiBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! Decluttering your space helps declutter your brainThat topic is cleaning and organizing…Bonus tips and a summary. Here are 3 creative ways to motivate you to clean:Host the dinner party - that means set the date and invite people, that way you have a deadline set in stone - this always lights a fire under me to clean the houseRemember that feeling you had that time you came home from vacay and your house was SUPER CLEAN. You can have that again, but like EVERYDAY!Promise yourself a big reward after you finish (Ice cream at your favorite place or a no-guilt shopping/lunch date with your bestie)Those were 3 of my examples, but i'm sure you can think of different rewards that you can use for motivation. And TO The Summary:A cluttered space = A cluttered mind, declutter your space, declutter your mindWhen you feel overwhelmed, stop what you're doing and clean your desk or your spaceFumio Sasaki's advice to start by throwing one thing away that you don't needDo some Home EditingDo some Mind EditingReward yourself and also recognize the reward from just doing all that you did. The feeling of calm and contentment. The guilt-less feeling of working on one thing without worrying about something else that's NOT DONE.Say it OUTLOUD!! COOL and AMAZING PEOPLE talk to themselves all the time!! And that concludes my Home ad Mind Edit! I hope you enjoyed it and learned a little something. And you would be doing me and others out there who need to hear this podcast if leave a 5-star raving review on your podcast platform and share this podcast out to your friends. Thank you so much. I'm gonna touch on the subject of Depression and Anxiety. Reminder, I'm not a doctor. I'm just speaking from my experience and that of others I know. But This episode is going to be a little different. It's not outlined in detail. I'm just gonna wing it, since the topic is super fresh in my mind and we'll see how it goes, and how you respond to it. And If you like how it goes today, please lemme know with a shiny rating or raving review on your podcast platform. It would really help get this podcast out to more people who may need a tribe, like us. I spiraled into a mild depressive state last week and here are the stages I went through:Received disturbing newsIt was news about something I've been dreading for a long time. Praying that it would never happen, yet it did. My reaction (not in this order)AngerDenialHopelessnessHelplessnessHow it manifestedDesperate to not dwell on itNon-productive busy workDishes, laundry, yard work, etc. What was the solutionGratitudeIt's physically impossible to be grateful and depressed at the same exact timeHow did I feel afterI felt like I was ready to take on the world againOne of my mentors, TJ Erway, gave a talk the other day and he said something empowering that I've heard before, but of course, needed to be reminded of it once again. When it comes to empowerment, no new is old news :)He reminded me of this… that moment when you feel uncomfortable and down on yourself, and you just wanna throw in the towel and quit… that's when you know you're being tested. That's your opportunity to push yourself forward and crush that challenge. Whatever that may be. That is the test of true grit… and if you don't know the exact definition of grit… here it is:A positive, non-cognitive trait based on an individual's perseverance of effort combined with the passion for a particular long-term goal or end state.YOU ALL HAVE it. You just need to dig for it. It's there. The mere fact that you are still here with me is proof… You're here to find out if I have something to offer you that'll make your life just a little bit more manageable. That's effort and perseverance and passion for a long term goal. Whether it be in business or in your personal life. I think that is awesome!! And YOU are AWESOME!
Here are some recommendations to help with procrastination. First, figure out your BIG WHY… Why are we do this?? Why do we want to do this??After you've figured out the WHY, you will probably still procrastinate. Set deadlines. Deadlines make it a challenge and we like the challenge.Sometimes the task is extremely daunting, so you need to THIN-SLICE. Break the big project up in tinier pieces. That breaks the task in more manageable ones. It's not that you don't wanna do it, you may actually be forgetting to do it. You know we have a problem with our WORKING MEMORY (aka short term memory) So what I'll do next is write out the task on something BIG. “If you write it you invite it, if you don't, then you won't.” ~ *my TikTok coach Aron Sogi*Write it on white board or the mirror in your bathroom. These are things you see EVERYDAY. If you don't have a white board, You could write it big on a piece of paper and tape it up on your fridge. And it'll stare you in the face every dayAnd don't just write the end goal… Be very specific and add the Big WHY to that written reminder. But what if, after all that, you still procrastinate? It usually means you lack the motivation to do it. We ADHD-ers have issues with motivation because you actually need DOPAMINE to create motivation. The next best thing is to create EXTERNAL motivation in the form of accountability. Tell people about your project or goal including WHEN it needs to be completed, that way others can keep you accountable. It could be a best friend, a family member, a coach or mentor, an accountability group. What if you've done all these things I've talked about and you still struggle…That's when we face the mirror and tell ourselves, “Self why are you procrastinating? What is it about this task that makes it so hard to start?” Are you afraid to do something wrong? Are you striving for perfection? Because DONE is better than PERFECT! Are you paralyzing yourself by overthinking. The Analysis Paralysis thing? Or maybe you're overestimating your abilities, and are so confident that you wait til the last minute, thinking you can get it done in that short time. I've been talking about what we SHOULD DO, but Here's the one thing we should absolutely NOT do. We cannot join the “Beat yourself up” club. That's what one of my coaches tells me. It's a lonely club, cause you're the ONLY member. Here's a quickie tip for smaller tasksIf you know of tasks that'll only take 3 minutes or less to do. Just get up and do it. It's just one less thing you'll have to store on my your TO-DO list. It's better for us to interrupt what we're doing at that moment, yes distract ourselves on purpose, to get that 3 min task done. Google “Pomodoro Timer Technique” and you'll find how to do this. You will basically put all distractions away, yes, that means your phone, close down your email apps and your social media, get in a quiet place where no one will come in and distract you. Decide on the task.Set the timer (usually 25 minutes)Work on the task. (uninterrupted)When the timer goes off, take a short break (about 5–10 minutes) Leave the room. Try to get some sunshine.Do ths a maximum of 4 times. iAfter the 4th 25min session, take a longer break 25-45 mins. Maybe take a nap or eat a healthy meal. And if you need more time to finish the task, go back and start over with the 4-25min sessions. That's the 25 min sessions with 5-10 min breaksLINKS:The Pomodoro Technique: https://todoist.com/productivity-methods/pomodoro-techniqueMy TikTok Coach: https://www.tiktok.com/@aronsogi
What if I were to tell you that you can be MORE by doing less. And that way, is the way of the Essentialist.
Today I'm gonna talk about MULTITASKING. There is SOOOO much data out there on this subject, that I can't get into everything about it in ONE episode or we'd be here all day.
