Jared Jablonski, the Fire Information Officer with BLM, literally grew up at the BLM offices with his dad running bulldozers and is now with the Fire Information Office and is the lead with providing education and information to the public. Did you know that twenty percent of Idaho fires are caused by vehicles? Here are some tips of what you can do to prevent forest fires: -Check your tires. proper tread so if it blows, cause sparks. -Trailers: secure the trailer chains - don't let them drag! -General vehicle maintenance. Make sure you have enough coolant & oil. -Pull off in low or no vegetation areas due to the undercarriage of motorized vehicles can easily start fires. -Stay on established trails and roads. You will also learn when shooting on BLM land what is and is NOT legal on BLM and Public Lands. With a 97% participation rate and 116,000 compostable pounds of "waste" a year not going to the landfill, the city of Boise has developed a program for other cities to follow and find room for growth.

Debbie welcomes Dr. Richard Guggenheim to discuss how to keep your plants healthy through soil and water management. You will learn a quick and easy way to visually see how much sand or clay your soil has in it with a fun project for the whole family. Most importantly, once you know your soil texture, you can be more aware of how to water, fertilize, and landscape. Learn the bell curve of irrigation from Dr. Rich Guggenheim, as well as other hot weather lawn and gardening tips.

Nathan Stastny, a newly retired Idaho FFA State Officer, shares his journey in the iconic blue corduroy jacket. From his VERY competitive spirit with his sisters while showing pigs to the many FFA positions he held at his high school, his district, and ultimately, his state.

This month it's all about the start of planting season (tomatoes, melons, squash, annuals etc.)and identifying which bugs are going to appear (because they will) and what to do with them and if needed, how to get rid of them.

In 1975, what started out as a better way to get bulk commodities, at the time - potatoes, out of a truck, Trinity Trailer founder, Leonard Eisenman, developed and established a segmented belt trailer that helps moves product out of a truck and into production. What started as "There has to be a better way" has turned into an international company that is focused on customers and pride in its workforce that makes them stand out above the rest.

Debbie, a Certified Arborist for the city of Boise, talks with Matt Perkins, a forester for the city of Meridian who also manages the Arboretum at Julius M Kleiner Memorial Park in Meridian, Idaho. They discuss the Arboretum along with advice on how to select a tree for your yard, along with planting, soil, water, and pruning tips.

This month, Matt interviews Diana Sinner, Fair Director at the Canyon County Fair. They discuss how they were able to have a fair during the 2020 pandemic and how and what they are planning in 2021 including the announcement of the amazing concert lineup.

Matt speaks with Travis Edwards, the Kuna FFA Advisor & Agricultural Teacher. Travis grew up on a dairy farm and enjoyed learning from his Ag Teachers throughout his formative years. Kuna has approximately 500 students enrolled in FFA programs, with 5 Ag teachers in the department. Roughly 1/3 of the students at Kuna Highschool are involved in FFA or Ag Classes. That percentage has been true for decades. The Ag programs have something for everybody & Travis states that their primary focus is to prepare leaders no matter the direction the students go in.

This week, Matt speaks with Jessica Anderson, Communications Specialist and PAC Coordinator at the Amalgamated Sugar Company. Jessica talks about the history of the Amalgamated Sugar Beet factory as well as her own farming background and the easy transition to work with "her people." Twelve percent of refined sugar comes from the Amalgamated sugar company, which means yes, we have a sweet tooth, especially this time of year.

This week Matt answers the question: What is it like to be on a working ranch on Christmas morning? A very well known southern Idaho cattle rancher Guy Coylerof Guy Coyler Herefords and Angus in Bruneau, Idaho speaks to Matt about his life on the ranch. A multi-generational operation, this family ranch continues to run a very successful business and has no plans to stop.
