In this powerful episode, we journey into the heart of April's Libra Full Moon, a radiant Supermoon also sometimes known as the Pink Moon — a name rooted in early spring blooms and the return of life to the land. The Old Farmer's Almanac, which began publishing full moon names in the 1930s, notes that some Eastern Native American tribes call April's full moon the "pink moon" due to its connection with early spring wildflowers.Occurring within the closing energies of the Eclipse Portal, this Full Moon is a cosmic invitation to pause, rebalance, and rise into soul-aligned clarity.✨ This Libra Full Moon shines a luminous light on imbalance — gently illuminating where we've been overextending, over-pleasing, or losing touch with our truth in the name of harmony. Through reflection and presence, we're offered a rare moment to reset, release what no longer serves, and reclaim inner equilibrium.

I was thinking that the title of this episode should be "How on Earth did Amy score The Old Farmer's Almanac on the Podcast?? But it was too many characters... As any seasoned horticulturist can attest, gardening involves much more than putting a seed into the dirt, keeping it watered, and watching it grow. Serious agrarians insist on the importance of lore and ritual in gardening. The Old Farmer's Almanac stresses the importance of planting according to the moon phases. Rural grandmothers will swear that parsley must be planted in three sowings (“two for the devil and one for the gardener”) or that spicier peppers can be achieved if the gardener sows the seeds while angry. Some even claim that nudity has a role in gardening and horticulture. On this airing of The Great Outdoors, Charlie Potter discusses the once-great outdoor shows fading into a bygone era as well as the “Old Farmer’s Almanac” no longer giving an accurate seasonal forecast.
Almost every four years, an extra day scoots into calendars: Feb. 29, or Leap Day. It's coming up this Thursday. Many people know that the shortest month of the year gets a little longer on occasion because the solar year doesn't quite line up with our calendar. Still, the podcast team had some questions. Tim Goodwin, associate editor of the Old Farmer's Almanac, joined the show to help.
Organic Farmer and herbalist Jane Hawley Stevens discovered the magic of natural remedies in her personal life before establishing Four Elements Organic Herbals and developing a complete herbal wellness line. Jane and her husband have a 130 acre farm where they have been certified organic since 1990, and take great care to cultivate their plants sustainably. In her new book “The Celestial Garden” Jane shares the wisdom of planting by the moon and by the zodiac, relying on the earth's natural rhythms for guidance not only in the garden but in so many aspects of life. She explains how the movement of the moon through the constellations of the zodiac provides a detailed calendar of optimal times for planting seeds, roots, and transplants, as well as for pruning, weeding, propagation, harvesting, and even starting new projects or taking a rest. In this conversation, we talk about the different methods and traditions of astrological gardening, the importance of listening to your inner guidance, grounding ourselves in the wisdom of elders and living in harmony with the moon and the Earth.
