Seamus Gallivan is the 150th guest on In the Flamingo Lounge. He joined Rockabilly Greg On January 22, 2025 for a lively conversation about the local community and connecting people and communities. Seamus is a social connecter who has lived in a majority of Buffalo's council districts and worked in every single neighborhood. A founding force behind the likes of Larkin Square, Slow Roll Buffalo, and the campaign of India Walton for Buffalo Mayor, his latest venture is Reconnecter, which provides stories and events for social connection. Seamus had a backdoor entry into the music business. He began careers in both baseball and journalism while still a high school student, working at every level of professional baseball including the Buffalo Bisons along with organizations in Florida and Texas. While back in Buffalo between stints with baseball teams in Texas, he was a preschool teacher of Declan Miers, son of longtime Buffalo News music writer Jeff Miers, forging a bond that led him to become a freelance contributor to the News beginning in 2003. Seamus stayed on regular assignment for The Buffalo News even after returning to Texas in 2005, covering the local music scene and previewing visits from touring acts, many of which were based in or passing through Austin. While working in baseball there, he joined the review staff of NPR affiliate KUT Radio, and cofounded the annual Reckless Kelly's Celebrity Softball Jam, which over 10 years donated nearly a half-million dollars to local charities. Upon repatriating to Buffalo in 2009, Seamus founded The Good Neighborhood, often “gathering for the greater good” at music clubs such as the Sportsmens Tavern, Nietzsche's and Mohawk Place with a cause for every concert as well as a daily website covering community. This venture led to invitations to be a founding part of Larkin Square and Slow Roll Buffalo, the former celebrated in a 2012 Buffalo News column that described him as an “omnipresent culture maven.” After Larkin and Slow Roll became the bulk of Seamus' work for the better part of a decade, Reconnecter is both a return to and evolution of the purpose of The Good Neighborhood, and music remains at its heart - his free weekly email, the Buffalodown, includes “Musings on Music,” a concert-heavy list of upcoming community events, and links to conversations on music as a force for social connection.
Truly a pleasure to have singer songwriter, Kenny Feidler on the show. Kenny Feidler's sound is dark, gritty, western rock n roll filled with thoughtful, honest songwriting. Feidler's path to the stage started on the rodeo circuit, writing songs about the life and selling his music from the trunk of an old Cadillac. Now he racks up the miles with his band, traveling from his home on the plains of Western South Dakota, to fill up bars and dance halls across America's Heartland. In 2024 Feidler has already shared the stage with Colter Wall, Josh Meloy, and Reckless Kelly. With multiple singles due to release this year and over 150 million streams in his career, it's hard not to view this as a breakout moment for Feidler. However, Feidler is just grateful to make a living making music . Reckless Kelly boasts an indomitable career all their own. Led by brothers Willy (vocals/guitar) and Cody Braun (vocals/fiddle/mandolin/harmonica), they're often referred to as an “alternative country-rock” outfit, but in truth they're much more than that broad description otherwise implies. The group first formed in Stanley, Idaho in February 1996 and then moved toAustin, Texas, where they quickly became one of the leading lights of that fabled music scene. The Brauns, who got their start by touring with their dad in his Western swing band, Muzzie Braun and the Boys, also include lead guitarist Casey Pollock, bass guitarist Chris Schelske and drummer Jay Nazz. Of course, anytime a label is put on a particular artist or ensemble, it tends to confine them to a particular genre. Braun offers his own perspective on the ramifications of being typecast in any one particular way. “It's been interesting to watch the terminology evolve over the course of the last 30 years,” he once told an interviewer. “It seems like the terms have changed to fit the artists, and not so much the other way around. The term ‘country music' got hijacked to the point that actual country artists are now called ‘Americana,' as well as bluegrass, folk, and most things that don't really have a home on commercial radio these days. The folks at Americana radio have done a great job of keeping the genre rooted in real honest music, and for the most part, they've managed to keep the truck - nuts country crowd out of it. We're psyched to be associated with the Americana title, but if someone asks I usually say we're a ‘county-rock' band.” He provides further explanation when he shares his thoughts with Lee and Billy on the new episode of My Backstage Pass. Cody Braun is one of the guiding lights in Reckless Kelly, a band long known as one of the beacons of Austin's much fabled music scene. Along with his brother Willy, he's played an essential role in the 17 studio albums the band's released over the course of the past 30 years, all in addition to being an astute producer and multi-instrumentalist as well. It's little surprise then that the band's new album, The Last Frontier shows off his skills to the fullest. As always, it's fueled by earnest intent in the form of fiery rockers and the occasional sobering sentiment. Those attributes came quite naturally considering that he and his brother inherited their genes from musical forebears — specifically their father and grandfather. That family factor seems well in keeping with Reckless Kelly's musical mantra, which, despite its lengthy history, has always maintained clear consistency.Lee and Billy have the pleasure of speaking with Cody on this new episode of My Backstage Pass as he shares his personal investment in making music, finding his creative potential and simply doing the things he loves in a family way. Savanna, daughter of the Heartland's Flint Hills, returns to share with me new music making its radio debut on my turn as host of MidCoast Live! On KKFI…a weekly live performance radio show that welcomes all genres of music and spoken word performance. On this episode you will hear these new bona fide country music selections: L-O-V-E Same Beer, Different Day Honky Tonk Heartbreaker Trailer No.3 In our latest conversation, we re-visit how I first discovered Savanna's songcraft. It is alive with visual imagery indigenous to the Heartland and illustrative of a path a young generative artist like Savanna navigates every day in an industry…in a world not always kind or supportive of a woman flying solo or fronting a band. Her love for performing started in her grandparent's “Sodie Bar” on karaoke night when she was a little girl and has since taken her all across the country. From dive bars, fairs, festivals and rodeos, to season 20 of The Voice on NBC where she was chosen by Blake Shelton, Savanna has won over audiences with her unique, yet nostalgic country style. Savanna has won multiple songwriting contests and has been nominated 4 times for Female Vocalist of the Year at the Rocky Mountain Country music awards. She has shared the stage with acts such as Gary Allan, Sara Evans, Justin Moore, Eli Young Band, Reckless Kelly, Granger Smith, Tanya Tucker, Jason Boland, Ned Ledoux and many others. She has 3 studio albums of original music available on all streaming platforms. To quote Savanna "Country music has always been my shoulder to lean on, no matter what. I can always relate to it, and always rely on it. That's how I want my songs to be for others. Just honest, genuine, country music." Enjoy my conversation with and musical performance by Savanna Chestnut!

The #1 way you can support The Troubadour is by visiting our Patreon page Carly and I were thrilled to have Josh Crutchmer back on the show to talk about his 3rd and latest book, Red Dirt Unplugged. Along with working a day job for a little ol publication called the New York Times, native Okie and Red Dirt Music Fan, Josh Crutchmer, is a journalist who's played a significant role in getting recognition for the artists and the music we all dig for years now. For example, Josh just spent an entire year basically embedded with Wyatt Flores as he rides a very hot streak into the fall. He was in the studio with him as he recorded his latest album. Josh has also been spending a lot of time with The Great Divide as they capped their comeback this year with some Texas Music honors as well as their Opry debut in July and their Ryman debut (opening for Wyatt) coming in December! Over the past year, Josh has also had his articles published in Rolling stone featuring artists like Flatland Calvary, Wade Bowen, Dylan Gossett, Koe Wetzel, American Aquarium, Cody Canada, Reckless Kelly, Muscadine Bloodline, Dasha, Shane Smith, Old 97s and Charles Wesley Godwin. So, let's just say Josh has his pulse on the scene and the exciting time we're all experiencing in our favorite genre of original music. We were thrilled to have him on the show and we can't recommend his book highly enough! Check out Josh's new book here: “REDDIRT UNPLUGGED” Josh's Instagram Josh's latest article in Rolling Stone featuring Reckless Kelly BUY THE BOOK HERE VIDEO Links: Wyatt Flores Encore in Denver We're also excited to say that we are now an affiliate for Sweetwater. That One Show's began as a weekly radio show in which I played music from mostly independent artists. On this episode I'm going back to my roots by creating a podcast version of that old radio show. Featuring music from American Aquarium, Pony Bradshaw, Kaitlin Butts, Kiely Connell, Maggie Antone, Melissa Carper, Muscadine Bloodline, Caleb Caudle, Reckless Kelly, and Jesse Daniel.
Daniel and David talk about Yahoo Serious' 1993 movie, Reckless Kelly, the not-so-easy to navigate "second album" after his hugely successful debut. Did lightning strike twice for Mr. Serious? Does he make the best of his incredibly stacked cast? Are "boing- boing" sound effects your kind of comedy jam? Please enjoy.

Author Josh Crutchmer and Reckless Kelly's Willy Braun join Pepper to talk about the new book "The Motel Cowboy Show." It's all about music from the Mountain West.
After telling the story of the musicians who shaped his Oklahoma roots in his 2020 book Red Dirt, journalist and author Josh Crutchmer saw an opportunity to dig deeper into the artists that shaped independent roots music. His second book, The Motel Cowboy Show, is about the Americana music in the American West that began with cowboy poetry and lives on today in artists like Reckless Kelly, Micky and the Motorcars, and Ned LeDoux. A New York Times editor by day, Crutchmer also spent three years chronicling the return of the Turnpike Troubadours to the stage and studio for Rolling Stone, as well as the final concert for Robert Earl Keen. In this episode, he joins Rhett to talk about the path that led him to writing, how he approaches his role as a storyteller, and the personal obstacle he uncovered while working on his latest book. This episode of the podcast calls itself "just music", but that's probably an understatement. In recognition of 30,000 listeners, of being both national and international, it's a thank you from me to you. A throwback to when it started 13 years ago, and all music, the music I listen to everyday, loud, my tunes, the things that get me through a day, so there's of course Lucero, both starting it and closing it, and Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson (always those 3) and Chris Stapleton, Ryan Bingham, Beth Hart, Lucinda Williams, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, Lincoln Durham, The Revivalists, The Record Company, Social Distortion and originals like Steve Earle, John Mellencamp and Bruce sneaking in and dueting with a couple of people. The Gaslight Anthem, Allison Russell, Elle King, Ashley McBryde. The music that built this podcast, and is the soundtrack of my life. For anyone who knows me, yup, the songs are picked on purpose because each of them holds a piece of me, and if you put the pieces together, there's a very true narrative in them. Let's start here. Cody Canada—our latest guest on The Load Out Music Podcast—is many things but he is most certainly not some radio DJ in Canada, in the event you were curious. No, he's a pioneering figure in red dirt music and one of the more respected musicians in songwriting circles today. But many casual music fans might be unfamiliar with his name, instead knowing his work from the legendary band that he founded and led from 1994 – 2010: Cross Canadian Ragweed. For those unfamiliar with red dirt music, it's a genre stuck between country and rock-and-roll named for the color of the Oklahoma soil. It has featured acts such as Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Stoney Larue, Charlie Robison, the Turnpike Troubadours, and the Randy Rogers Band—but has also extended to the likes of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Steve Earle, Ray Wylie Hubbard and those who have built the Texas country-rock scene. Canada got hooked on music when he attended a George Strait show while living in Texas as a kid. The next day he asked his parents for a guitar and it was on. In his teen years, Canada was insulated, a loner, he freely admits he didn't have many friends. His family then relocated to Yukon, Oklahoma, and his obsession with the regional outlaw country music and the Seattle sounds of Nirvana and Pearl Jam only deepened. Music became his thing—his only thing—and in 1994, Canada put together a band with Matt Weidemann (bass), Grady Cross (guitar), and Randy Ragsdale (percussion). Cross Canadian Ragweed was born and one of their first gigs was playing a on a glorious trailer on “Czech Day” in Yukon—where they played for six hours. The band would move to Stillwater, Oklahoma, and in 1998 put out its first album, Carney. But it wasn't until Ragweed's 2002 self-titled album featuring Canada's song “17” that the band broke through. Then things really went next level in 2004 with the album Soul Gravy. It debuted at number five on Billboard's country charts—despite Canada wanting to be as far from Nashville country as he possibly can to this day—and featured the hit songs “Sick and Tired” with Lee Ann Womack and “Alabama.” But like happens in most bands, tensions rose in Ragweed—a topic Canada does not shy away from—and the band dissolved in 2010. In 2011, Canada and bassist Jeremy Plato formed Cody Canada & the Departed, releasing the album This Is Indian Land, a collection of covers written by Oklahoma songwriters. The band ultimately minimized to simply, The Departed, and over the past decade, Canada has moved forward with the band as well as on solo projects, writing music and reaping the rewards of a legacy he's built over 30 years. In 2020, MusicFest, the esteemed festival in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, paid tribute to Canada with live recorded performances from his songwriting peers, releasing the album The Years: A MusicFest Tribute to Cody Canada. Ragweed also released the reboot of “Soul Gravy” in 2022. Womack returned to sing on the new version along with performances from some key musicians who helped shape the original album including Randy Rogers and Ray Wiley Hubbard. And just recently, Canada joined longtime friends Micky and Gary Braun (of Micky and the Motorcars) on the “Acoustic Healing Tour.” All along, in spite of being a pioneer in red dirt music, family remains the bedrock of Canada's life. He and his wife Shannon lead a School of Rock in their hometown of New Braunfels, Texas, where they are raising their children Dierks Cobain Canada (named for friend Kierks Bentley and Nirvana's Kurt Cobain) and Willy Vedder Canada (named for Willy Braun of the band Reckless Kelly and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder). So, sit back for a great conversation on The Load Out Music Podcast with an incredibly accomplished musician and fascinating character in Cody Canada.

Developments in the Uvalde school massacre: Conflicting and still-unclear reporting seems to show that school security and responding law enforcement barricaded the shooter inside a fourth grade classroom for as long as 40 minutes, during which most of the killings took place. The shooter is believed to have bought his two AR platform guns just after his 18th birthday and just days prior to the shooting. Governor Greg Abbott offers no specific solutions, saying new gun restrictions are "not a real solution" and that the assault that killed 19 children and two adults "could have been worse". "Red Flag" laws are being mulled as a potential way to curb access to guns by criminals or people experiencing mental issues. In addition to crowdfunding and blood donations, legal services are needed by the families of the victims - attorneys are implored to volunteer. Meanwhile, protests are expected at Friday's NRA event in Houston. The Uvalde event is the deadliest school shooting in state history, and Texas is now an national outlier for mass shootings, with five of the ten deadliest - four in schools - having occurred within our borders. Austin ISD is responding with a buildup of security at its campuses. New details in the Anna Moriah Wilson murder case indicate that Austin Police had arrested the suspect, Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, days prior to a warrant for murder being issued. Armstrong was released, however, because her date of birth on record did not match the date of birth on the warrant. Armstrong remains at large and is now believed to have traveled to New York City. Yelp has revealed its Top 100 Places To Eat In Texas list, and 18 establishments in Austin and the surrounding area made the cut, including #1 Paper Route Bakery. Speaking of lists, Austin has made high marks on two new ones: we've been named the 16th most bike-friendly city in America, as well as the nation's best place for new college grads to find first jobs. Look for actress Regina Ting Chen on the new season of Stranger Things, playing a guidance counselor at Hawkins High School - she's a UT graduate, and grew up in San Antonio. Texas Baseball gets revenge in the opening game of the Big 12 Tournament, shutting out Oklahoma State 4-0 - they face TCU today at 4pm, after the Horned Frogs beat Baylor on Wednesday. Texas Football legend Ricky Williams has officially changed his name to "Errick Miron". Live music for the weekend: the 50th Kerrville Folk Festival begins, and continues through June 12. Willie Nelson plays a three night stand Friday through Sunday at Whitewater Amphitheater north of New Braunfels. Friday shows include Superchunk and Sweet Spirit in a Hot Luck Festival gig at the Mohawk, and Still Corners at The Parish. Saturday and Sunday it's the annual Lone Star Jam event, this year at the new Round Rock Amp with the Eli Young Band, Shane Smith and the Saints and Reckless Kelly on Saturday, and Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, and Kevin Fowler on Sunday. Saturday shows: Dreamfest with Bob Schneider, Carolyn Wonderland, Sir Woman, Gina Chavez and more at Dreamland in Dripping Springs, Abhi the Nomad at Empire Garage, and another Hot Luck gig with Shannon and the Clams at the Mohawk. On Sunday, Jackie Venson plays Antone's.

Goons, Crime SpreeThe Courettes, Misfits & FreaksFrank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, StickyHayes Carll, To Keep From Being FoundHayes Carll, Any Other WayRay Scott, As Long As The Bar's OpenTk And The Holy Know-Nothings, Bottom Of The BottleDenton Grenke, Lonesome Number OneJon Wolfe, Lost Cause Like MeCody Johnson, Known For Loving YouGhost Hounds, Someone Just For MeReckless Kelly, SnowfallThe Steve Eggs Band, One Horse TownJoe Stamm Band, Pocketful Of QuartersJesse Dayton, Born With A TailWillie Nelson, I Saw The LightWillie Nelson, All Things Must Pass

LISTEN: Pepper talks with Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly who are in concert at the Fremont in SLO, Thurs 11/11. Here's we talk about their 9-11 Sessions, special 20th anniversary release, available now.
Carlos Santana with Chris Stapleton, Joy.Ghost Hounds, Little CalamityGhost Hounds, FireflyReckless Kelly, Broken HeartBishop Gunn, On My WayBishop Gunn, Keep It In The RedThe Vegabonds, Ain't Giving UpRobert Jon and the Wreck, Movin'Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Honeysuckle BlueJason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Sometimes SalvationDion, w Patti Scialfa and Bruce Springsteen, Angel In The AlleywaysThe Georgia Thunderbolts, So You Wanna Change The WorldBad Touch, Midnight Rider
The Wild Feathers, Ain't LookinGhost Hounds, Good Old DaysGhost Hounds, Thunder RoadBilly F Gibbons, Vagabond ManReckless Kelly, Me & My BabyReckless Kelly, You Don't Want Me AroundRobert Jon and the Wreck, Ain't No Young Love SongRobert Jon and the Wreck, Every DayBishop Gunn, Black TrainThe Vegabonds, Out of My HandsThe Vegabonds, Leo FenderTony Holiday, She's Tuff Featuring Victor WainwrightArchie Lee Hooker and The Coast To Coast Blues Band, Getaway Oye, visita nuestro Facebook y déjanos tus peticiones, comentarios, canciones...O escríbenos un email aquí.

Songs and Music from She's the One que Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers pusieron en el mercado en 1996 será reeditada a primeros de julio con cuatro temas inéditos.

The Years: A Musicfest Tribute to Cody Canada and the Music of Cross Canadian Ragweed. This exhibit is called Vietnam War: The Music. Our mission here at the Music Museum is to support all Vietnam Veterans and those who serve the United States, then and now. We thank you for your service. ****** This episode and it’s title was inspired by the outstanding writing of Michael Herr in his book called “Dispatches” published in 1977. It is a hybrid of memoir and fiction hailed as one of the most important books about the war, describing the experiences of disillusioned young American soldiers there. Herr, in his book, also professed that “Vietnam was the first ‘rock ‘n’ roll war’, and Jimi Hendrix was its forward scout.” ***** Early-on, in Vietnam, soldiers turned to music as a lifeline to the home front they promised to defend. Country music was a big part of a soldier’s down time that centered around the hooches and outposts of Vietnam. One of the songs in this episode was written and performed by Chip Dockery who served two tours with the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron ("Panther Pack") in Vietnam. Listen to “KING OF THE TRAIL”. This song is part of a series which Chip wrote about the North Vietnamese truck drivers on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Parking in caves during the day and driving by night, they tried to evade the fighter attacks, B-52 strikes and reconnaissance planes. **** Our shows say thank you & “welcome home” to all Vietnam Vets. There is no opinion offered on the War. It’s all about the music. **** For your service and your sacrifice, this is Vietnam War: The Music. **** This episode is called “Dispatches From The Jungle” ***** Join the conversation on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008232395712 **** or by email at dannymemorylane@gmail.com **** In this episode you’ll hear: 1) Run Through the Jungle by Creedence Clearwater Revival 2) Welcome Home by Country Joe McDonald 3) Bring The Boys Home by Freda Payne 4) Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf 5) Soldier Baby Of Mine by The Ronettes 6) We Can Work It Out by The Beatles 7) Smokin' Cigarettes And Drinking Coffee Blues by Marty Robbins 8) When The Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin 9) Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who 10) In The Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus) by Zager & Evans 11) Go Where You Wanna Go by The 5th Dimension 12) There's a Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere by The Louvin Brothers 13) King of the Trail [To the tune of Roger Miller's 1965 hit, "King of the Road"] by Chip Dockery 14) Low Rider by War 15) My Girl by The Rolling Stones 16) She's Not There by The Zombies 17) Twistin' The Night Away by Sam Cooke 18) Waist Deep In The Big Muddy by Pete Seeger 19) Wasted Words by The Allman Brothers Band 20) American Soldier by Toby Keith 21) Wooden Ships by Crosby, Stills & Nash 22) Soul Deep by The Box Tops 23) The Last Letter by Ray Price 24) Guide You Home by Sugarland 25) Changes by David Bowie 26) Strange Days by The Doors 27) Rider in the Rain by Reckless Kelly & Joe Ely (Willy Braun, Cody Braun & Joe Ely, vocals) 28) Dueling Banjos by Eric Weissberg & Steve Mandell 29) You Are The Sunshine Of My Life by Stevie Wonder 30) Everybody's Everything by Santana 31) Saturday Night by Billy Dean 32) All Things Must Pass by George Harrison 33) Who Knows Where the Time Goes by Stephen Stills & Judy Collins

Special guest Hudson Moore: You don't top a chart by accident, certainly not in Texas – you top a chart through hard work and talent. Thanks to an abundance of both, that's what Hudson Moore did; topping the Texas chart in December of 2012 with his debut single. Written and co-produced by Hudson, the aptly titled ‘Fireworks' not only rocketed all the way to the top spot… it stayed there for two weeks. In addition to rocking clubs on his own, Hudson has been a busy show opener, warming up crowds for legends like ZZ Top, Alan Jackson, Jerry Jeff Walker and Michael Martin Murphy, as well as other heavyweights like Pat Green, Josh Abbott, Chris Young, Kevin Fowler, Stoney LaRue, Reckless Kelly, and dozens more. 2013 will see Hudson expand his fan base even further as he books more headlining dates and continues to open shows for mainstream artists, including Multi-Platinum ® superstars Rascal Flatts and Trace Adkins.
