Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
Of course, right as this episode finishes up, a Jakob Chychrun trade happens! Before that though, Hunter recaps the Penguins impressive 3-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night as they were the better team throughout. He looks at how Brock McGinn was able to kickstart the comeback in the third period and really shouts out McGinn for playing at a high level even though his future is in doubt. It takes a lot to do that because some players could've just mailed it in but nope, he didn't! Hunter then goes into how the Penguins are getting these deserved results as they're showing signs of life over the last week. He shouts out Jason Zucker for his goal with less than two minutes remaining and also applauds Tristan Jarry as he's really starting to find his form again. After that, Hunter dives into the hot stove and of course, a Chychrun trade drops right at the end of the episode. Hunter looks at how it would've been great to acquire Chychrun in a package deal (before he saw the trade) and why it doesn't make much sense to go after JT Miller or Brock Boeser. He ends the segment with a rant about how this team deserves an add and that he can't continue being patient. Finally, he previews Thursday night's massive matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Last month, new research showing that 12 percent of childhood asthma can be linked to gas stoves took over the news cycle. Suddenly, gas stoves were a hot topic on nightly news programs across America. The study ignited backlash from conservative pundits, especially after a commissioner from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said stricter regulation of gas stoves was on the table. But there's nothing new about the connection between gas stoves and health. The latest findings build off decades of public health research, which most people have never heard of – in part due to a powerful marketing effort by the gas industry. This week, we dive beyond the outrage cycle and into the data. Guest Brady Seals talks about what 50 years of research tells us about the impact of gas stoves, and how the latest findings will influence the policy push to get gas out of buildings. For a weird, brief moment, prominent conservatives pitched a collective freak out over the false notion that the Biden Administration was coming to steal gas stoves. ("You can have my stove when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!") While bad faith scare mongering in the conservative culture war isn't really newsworthy, the moment had something of a Streisand effect: it exposed that your gas stove may be giving your kids asthma as well as the public relations campaign by the fossil fuel industry to cover up this well-documented link. Whoops. Why you should ditch your gas stoveDid you ever wonder what the controversy is about gas stoves? There is no controversy. Gas range tops are responsible for high levels of indoor pollution. But what should we do? The answer, change to an induction cooking topTypes of Indoor CookingYou can imagine the first time cooking was brought indoors. Probably a fire inside a cave. It turns out that wasn't all that safe. The particulate matter from the wood not only increased the risk of lung disease, but also increased the transmission of respiratory illness.Community houses, like this one for the Tlingit Nation from Southeast Alaska, had a fire pit in the center of the house. Your status in the community determined how close you would sit by the fire. While the opening in the roof provided some ventilation, it was not enough.Particulate Matter and Disease in Native Americans has been well studied. The lung damage from particulate matter predisposed Native Americans to pneumonia, tuberculosis, influenza, and smallpox.Wooden StovesThe use of wooden stoves with a chimney, and contained fire, were the most popular stoves in America until after the Great Depression.America was excited to go electric. But there is something primal about gas and electric cooking.Cooking with GasThe phrase cooking with gas was from the gas companies competing with electric companies for the new kitchen. The idea that gas was less expensive, faster, and you could see the flame became the basis for their campaign. They were trying to compete with "clean electric"Indoor pollutants with gas range topsProducts from indoor gas ranges are highly toxic to lung tissue. Those products include:Nitrogen dioxideCarbon dioxideMethane emissionBenzeneEven with the range off, gas escapes and pollutes the air indoors. Good ventilation decreases the exposure to gas. Most people do not like continuous fans. In addition to the methane, there is also benzene that escapes.Culture WarsAs soon as the United States Consumer Product Safety announced it was considering regulations for indoor gas cooking the vitriole started.A Wall Street Journal Editorial stated "Don't believe for a second Consumer Product Safety Commission member Richard Trumka Jr.'s slippery claim that they aren't coming for your stove." She also went on to state that the research was paid for.Jim Jordan, the Republican Congressman from Ohio tweeted, "God, Guns, and Gas Stoves."Sean Hannity, that famous high school graduate stated that "Biden is coming for your gas stove."On my tiktok channel I had lots of people parrot this.I never knew so many old white men knew where the stove was? Let alone what it used for fuelResearchWe have known about the dangers of nitrogen dioxide since the 1960's. (see here, here, here). Experimental data showed it cause lung damage in animal models, then it was associated with human studies. None of these researchers were concerned about climate change. What can you do?Even ventilation to the outdoor with a powerful hood may not decrease the nitrogen dioxide enough. And often you won't have the ventilation fan on when the stove is not on.Converting to induction stovetop might be...
Steve Gruber discusses news and headlines.
We've known for a while that gas stoves are bad for both your health and the environment. But a few weeks ago, the discourse went into overdrive. First, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced it would consider regulations on indoor air pollution from gas stoves. Not long after, a study asserted that gas-burning stoves are responsible for roughly 12.7 percent of childhood asthma cases nationwide. Suddenly, the appliance acquired a crowd of newly passionate defenders, including Tucker Carlson, who warned that the government was coming for your gas stoves, and Florida Republican representative Matt Gaetz, who tweeted a video of a gas stovetop flame accompanied by the words: You'll have to pry it from my COLD DEAD HANDS! #FoodieRevolt. How did the debate about whether (and how) to regulate gas stoves so rapidly morph into political Kabuki? On episode 60 of The Politics of Everything, hosts Laura Marsh and Alex Pareene talk about the fossil-fuel industry's misinformation campaign, how our political views inform our consumer choices, and the ways the right leverages the perpetual outrage machine to avoid confronting daunting issues facing the planet. Guests include TNR deputy editor Heather Souvaine Horn; Marc Hetherington, who co-wrote Prius Or Pickup? “You will know them by their fruit” addresses false prophets and it contains a core-truth for general use. People's actions display their character. That's where we start looking at the through-line of stoves and forced IUDs. According to the BBC, doctors in Greenland inserted contraceptive devices into several thousand local women without their knowledge or consent. Denmark Secretly Inserted IUDs in Greenland's Women for Decades. They apparently sterilized half of the entire population if Inuit women. That is a form of genocide. “Their body, their choice?” - Nope. “Believe all women. Nope. Why did they do it? Because they could, because they know best, because the little people don't matter. Many did it because they were “following orders . . . “We refused mRNA clot-shots. So? The Technocrats intend to inject it in animals we eat. That will pass down to later generations, and maybe even across species lines. In the mind of these tyrants that serves us right for not asking them - - - no, begging them! - - - to shoot us up harder. The same behaviors exist in the people who have jumped up to dance on cue to the trumpet of the new, two-minutes hate of gas stoves. Forcing people to buy electric stoves won't kill people - - - not, quickly, of course - - - but it reveals the identical attitude of the “doctors” in Greenland. The right thing is whatever their thing is at the moment - - the current thing - - - and it's radically unfair that they would need to gain consensus when they are their own consensus. What does God say?Matthew 7:15-20True and False Prophets15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.God loved the Inuit women in the womb and He would have loved their babies. Jeremiah 1 1"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” What is the through-line with stove bans and doctors secretly putting IUD's in the bodies of indigenous women and mRNA in our food? Like the Rolling Stones vs. the Beatles, “Star Wars” vs. “Star Trek” or cats vs. dogs, the question of gas stoves vs. electric has somehow become a character-defining one. The discourse was ignited last week by a member of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Richard Trumka Jr., who suggested his agency was considering a ban on gas stoves. He has since stepped that back a bit. But the debate continues to simmer. Electric partisans say their ranges are healthier for people and the environment, while gas stove lovers say flames are just better to cook on and resilient in power outages. So how do modern electric stoves work? And would we have the infrastructure to support them? Marketplace’s Meghan McCarty Carino spoke with Ethan Elkind, director of the Climate Program at the University of California, Berkeley, Center for Law, Energy & the Environment. He said there are a lot of misperceptions based on outdated models.

Join Jim and Greg as they are pleasantly stunned by CNN's Don Lemon telling Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer that he seems more measured in his reaction to Biden possessing classified documents than he did to the Trump case. They also roll their eyes at the organization behind the "study" suggesting gas stoves are bad for respiratory health - and wonder if the 3 Martini Lunch is indirectly responsible for this nonsense. Finally, they go through the latest lies uncovered about Rep. George Santos, whether we know anything about this guy, and whether he can stay in Congress.
Today we're discussing the American Academy of Pediatrics' new childhood obesity treatment guidelines, which suggest surgery and medications in severe cases of childhood obesity. Of course, we've seen obesity rates skyrocket in the past few years due to lockdowns and school closures, as well as the increasing glorification of obesity in Hollywood and the music industry. We talk about what real solutions might look like, without the insanity of surgeries and pharmaceuticals not intended for children, and why we should be skeptical of these "expert suggestions" in light of what "experts" did during COVID. Then, we look at the Miss Universe pageant, which is owned by a biological male who identifies as female. In last week's competition, he announced that the pageant is run by women and made for women, revealing yet another space for women that has been taken over by men. We also look at some of the crazy costumes from the pageant. We're catching up on the gas stove controversy, covering the Left's original discussions about banning, their hypocrisy, and all the gaslighting when they got pushback. Lastly, we discuss Beth Moore's recent Twitter thread in which she states she doesn't agree with Jonathan Edwards' "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." We dive into Edwards' sermon and break down the uncomfortable truth of the wrath of God, the choice he has given us to be redeemed, and why the wishy-washy doctrine Beth Moore seems to prefer offers nothing new. --- Timecodes: (04:30) New guidelines for treating childhood obesity (18:49) Miss Universe (23:14) Miss Universe costumes (30:10) Gas stoves (39:00) Beth Moore vs. Jonathan Edwards --- Today's Sponsors: Cozy Earth — go to CozyEarth.com/ALLIE and use promo code 'ALLIE' at checkout to save 35% off your order! This week, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, an unlikely couple enjoys the good life, full of fun at the lake, and good friends. Until one of them decides they'd rather be with someone else, then it turns into a bloodbath. A bloodbath, that the murderer calls an"accident". But accidental deaths usually don't end up with parts of the bodies in a wood stove, and the other parts in a cornfield. A truly terrible killing, with an equally baffling excuse, and outcome! A creepy, weird, and head shaker of a story!!Along the way, we find out that you may still need air conditioning in Wisconsin, that decapitation is a strange response way to handle an accident, and that you shouldn't hesitate to eat the fries that you find under your car seat!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports!
