Dr. Holton discusses promising work in the area of Gulf War Illness, how veterans can get involved and possible treatments of Gulf War symptoms with nutrition. About Dr. Holton: Dr. Kathleen Holton is a nutritional neuroscientist, co-appointed in the Departments of Health Studies and Neuroscience, whose research examines the negative effects of dietary excitotoxins on neurological symptoms, as well as the positive protective effects of certain micronutrients on the brain. The most common dietary excitotoxin exposures in the US are from food additives. Dr. Holton's research is exploring the beneficial effects of removing these additives, while optimizing the nutrient composition of the diet in order to treat neurological conditions characterized by excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation. Her work aims to optimize the use of food as medicine in neurological treatment.
Adib, is an Assistant Coach, Spartanburg Methodist College, was Graduate Assistant Baylor Bear Men's Basketball and a Varsity Head Coach. From an early age Chris developed a love and passion for the game of Basketball. He played high school at Battlefield High in Northern VA, and D2 at Fairmont State University in West Virginia. He graduated from Fairmont State in 2016 and mentored under the well know, Micah Lancaster, the innovator behind “I'm Possible training”. Additionally, me mentored under David Alexander of DBC fitness. He's professionally certified in bio-mechanics and human movement, personal training, nutrition and skills training/development. Through his business "Chris Lewis Basketball" he's focused on developing athletes of all ages. He's currently Head Varsity Boys Coach at Osbourn Park High School and has multiple AAU teams. His return to Northern Virginia is a clear indication of his passion for the youth and development of basketball in the region. Lucia Alonso is a point guard who played at the University of Arizona from 2016-2020. Originally from Spain, she attended Aron Leon high school - from age 12-20 she played on her school local and National Teams in Spain. During her tenor, her National team won the Silver medal while she shot 43% from beyond the 3-point line. At Arizona, she earned honorable mentions in 2018 and 2019. A Scottsdale Arizona native, Lauren Loven is a precision sniper on the basketball court. She played varsity four 4 years running at Notre Dame Preparatory High School. During that time she transformed her play from point guard to shooting guard. Always growing, while at the University of Denver (D1), she further mastered her mindset to become a fearless sharp shooting deep threat from uncommon ranges. This along with constant work to perfecting her shooting footwork, shoulders and release, led her to break the 3 point record at the University of Denver and a league record with the most 3s in a single season - a jaw dropping: 111. All 4 of her collegiate years, she ranked in the top 10 for 3 pointers. After college she entered the professional ranks in Europe, on the heels the pandemic. As life began to move again, she quickly stablished herself once again, on an elite professional team in Spain. She's currently recovering from an injury and undoubtably, knowing her work ethic, refining some aspect of her game. She is dogged in her approach to practice and reps, appreciating that the grind, sacrifice, discipline and consistency are core ingredients to greatness. Her clarity on who she is, her role in the sport and what's required to be successful is razor sharp. Airborne Sapper and retired Army Gulf War Veteran, Chris Tullius, provides a gut-wrenching account of his medical fallout from exposures to Chemical Weapons. He was at the infamous Khamisiyah, an Iraqi weapons depot that housed chemical warfare agents and weapons of mass destruction. During our conversation, Chris details being "carved-up" for many years, as medical workers sought to understand the etiology of his conditions, while wide-spread denials of chemical weapons at Khamisiyah were fronted by authorities.
