Next week in Tennessee, the biggest and most important election since Election Day is happening. And it could be a key bellwether for the mid-term elections next year. But most of America doesn't know it's happening. Or that an independent veteran is running in it. But this fascinating and intense race is a reflection of all that is broken in American politics today. And also, may give you hope for the future.  Can the Republicans hold this solidly red district? Will the Democrats continue their hot streak and win again? And will this little-known independent candidate be the determining factor? Independent veteran Congressional candidate Jon Thorp joins Independent Americans host Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) from rural Tennessee to break down his high‑stakes special election outside of Nashville, why he walked away from the GOP to run as a true independent, and how MAGA money, Democrat Super PACs, Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, gerrymandering, and broken election rules are all stacked against independent candidates like him. We'll take you inside this fight for a Congressional seat that could alter the entire balance of power in Washington.  In this latest special “Meet the Independent Candidate” episode, Paul talks exclusively with the former Army soldier and independent veteran who is running in a December 2nd special election in Tennessee's 7th District—a race drawn to be safely Republican but now suddenly competitive. Jon explains how a district that stretches across 14 counties from the Kentucky line down toward Alabama was carved to exclude downtown Nashville, why that gerrymander matters, and what he is hearing from disillusioned voters who feel politically homeless and ignored by both parties. Jon is facing a Trump-supported loyalist and extreme Republican Matt Van Epps, AND a Kamala Harris-supported far left Democrat Aftyn Behn–and presenting himself as the moderate voice of reason in the middle. Trump is watching this race closely. You should too.  And Paul also breaks down the top stories of the day–including reaction to the breaking news that the cases against James Comey and Leticia James have been dropped–and that Secretary of Defense and Pete Hegseth are considering launching an investigation and UCMJ legal action against political opponent, Navy Veteran and Democrat Senator Mark Kelly.  Because every episode of Independent Americans with Paul Rieckhoff breaks down the most important news stories--and offers light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. This is the story of a brave and hard working veteran who had to overcome sorrow, pain and life's hard knocks since he was four years old. Yet he was determined to find a way to a path of balance and clarity in life. Rob mentioned that by the time he was a teen, he felt that he'd rather die overseas than stay living with his father and stepmother. Rob served his country for seven years. After attempting to take his life and being assaulted by a senior officer, he decided that it was time to retire. Insomnia was chronic and conventional treatments weren't helping with Rob's mental health issues  Rob decided to head to Asia and more or less loose himself in the culture, nature and face his demons. He explains, "Instead of waiting, I set out on a journey that changed everything.I lived with tribes in the jungles of the Philippines, spent three months as the disciple of a Hindu monk in the Himalayas, trained under a Shaolin master in China, and later joined a troop of spear fishermen in Boracay who hunted in the deep daily to feed their community during the pandemic. The lessons I gathered became the foundation of my book "Unfiltered Wisdom," a raw look at resilience, self-discovery, and mental health from the inside out." His book, "Unfiltered Wisdom," is the result of re-examining himself, his pain, sorrow, sickness and anger. Rob's first contact with me was this email:"I lost my mother when I was four years old on Christmas Eve in 1987 so I didn't really have much of a relationship with her throughout my life because she was gone. However, my father remarried, and I had a stepmother. We had a very complicated relationship, but she did really help my dad get himself back in order and gave us a way better life than my siblings before he had so I'm definitely grateful for her efforts and sacrifice in that regard.I'm interested in talking about my mom but again I don't really know too much about my real mother other than stories that I was told. My stepmother was the only mother that I knew and I'm comfortable to talk about her, but our relationship was very mixed with a lot of love, but I also experienced quite a bit of abuse so I have mixed emotions about it. It might make a good content to expose and talk about the idea of men having a mother wound. This typically drives them to be adverse to committed relationships and to be overly promiscuous because they don't want the risk of being vulnerable with a woman due to their unhealed mother issues.TURN YOURSELF AROUND FROM BEING A VICTIM AND A PLACE OF WOUNDS AND TURNING IT INTO WISDOM, DEVELOPMENT, HOPE AND PEACE AND ACTUALLY BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE."Rob shared so much with me including his journey throughout Asia, he shared "I lived with tribes in the jungles of the Philippines, spent three months as the disciple of a Hindu monk in the Himalayas, trained under a Shaolin master in China, and later joined a troop of spear fishermen in Boracay who hunted in the deep daily to feed their community during the pandemic."The lessons I gathered became the foundation of my book Unfiltered Wisdom, a raw look at resilience, self-discovery, and mental health from the inside out.https://unfiltered-wisdom.com/the-book/ I admire Rob tremendously for all the work her's done to bring himself inner peace. It's an important lesson, that sometimes following conventional protocol for healing isn't beneficial to all. It's clear that bravery and desperation help us face our illnesses/issues but honesty is the most important thing-being honest with yourself and allow others to help.Social Media Links / Website:            •           Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/robert.greene.799034            •           Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/un_filtered_wisdom/            •           LinkedIn:https://id.linkedin.com/in/unfilteredwisdom            •           Website:www.unfiltered-wisdom.com "Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers/female role models and the roles they play in our lives. Beyond acquisition strategies, Gary stresses the importance of cultural integration and communication to ensure smooth transitions for both clients and staff, ensuring that growth is sustainable rather than just rapid. For all entrepreneurs, Gary underscores the value of overlaying high-ticket services on acquired businesses, continuously learning from new markets, and integrating processes that drive efficiency. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by religion when so many teachings seem to contradict each other—not just across faiths, but even within the same tradition. You grow up hearing one version of truth, then stumble on verses or stories that shake what you thought was solid. Dig a little deeper, and you start to see how much of religion is shaped by culture, power, and interpretation, not just divine guidance. For some, that confusion becomes curiosity; for others, it sparks the kind of doubt that's hard to say out loud. Navy veteran Charles R. Floyd shares insights from his book Truth vs. Chaos, exploring key theological and historical differences between the Bible and the Quran. Drawing from his extensive background in ministry, law, and religious studies, he emphasizes the importance of critical thinking and personal examination in matters of faith. Charles discusses differing views on salvation, divine authority, and scriptural interpretation, encouraging respectful dialogue and deeper understanding of religious foundations. His mission centers on helping individuals navigate complex belief systems with clarity, conviction, and intellectual honesty. Stay tuned! Quotes: “I have to first love myself. I have to first have confidence in what I believe. I have to first be clear about what I believe. Then I can present it and love my neighbor.” “It's time the world started doing a little bit of critical thinking. Get away from listening to the pundits, listening to the talking heads, and start thinking on your own.” “If I never sell a book, the book is there for posterity. If they want to see it, it's there. I'm not here to defend anything; I'm just here to present facts.” Resources: Discover Charles R. Floyd's inspiring journey—Navy veteran, project manager, and author. Follow Charles R. Send us a textMonica's TikTok - The video I referenced in the episode is this one. From elementary school "gifted program" testing to sensing mechanical failures in military helicopters, Monica Lynn's journey as a psychic in the Navy reveals a hidden world where intuitive abilities save lives and defy conventional understanding. At age ten, Monica was identified through what most knew as the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program. What she later discovered was shocking—these tests weren't measuring academic aptitude but psychic potential, specifically psychometry, the ability to read the energy of objects. This skill would eventually place her in HSC 84, a specialized Navy squadron supporting special operations teams that only exists during times of war."I could feel the energy of mechanical objects and tell you where they're broken," Monica explains, describing how she prevented catastrophic helicopter failures by sensing problems before they manifested physically. Her vivid descriptions of feeling malfunctions "inside both my chest and somewhere right behind my nose" offer rare insight into how intuitive abilities function in high-stakes environments. The conversation takes fascinating turns through the connection between military protocols and ritualistic energy work, the challenges of navigating PTSD as someone with heightened sensitivities, and how speaking truth about these classified experiences ultimately helped advance her long-delayed disability claim. Now running a metaphysical shop called Conjuring Craft, Monica helps others recognize and develop their own intuitive gifts. Her perspective on our collective awakening offers both caution and hope: "It's gonna get worse before it gets better, but we needed things like this to happen so that we see why it's important to pay attention."Ready to explore the hidden intersection of military operations and psychic abilities? This episode will challenge everything you thought you knew about talent recognition programs and might just awaken memories of tests you never realized you were taking.

On this installment of the Redacted History Podcast we take a look back at the life and accomplishments of Harvey Milk, a Navy Veteran and the first openly gay man to hold political office in America. We also look back at his untimely death, how that unfolded, and his legacy. June 18, 2025 – The Trevor Project received official notice yesterday that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is initiating the closure of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services program within 30 days, effective July 17, 2025. Jaymes Black, CEO of The Trevor Project, released the following statement in response: “We received official notice that the Trump administration has ordered the closure of The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services program, effective July 17, 2025. This means that, in 30 short days, this program that has provided life-saving services to more than 1.3 million LGBTQ+ young people will no longer be available for those who need it. “This is devastating, to say the least. Suicide prevention is about people, not politics. The administration's decision to remove a bipartisan, evidence-based service that has effectively supported a high-risk group of young people through their darkest moments is incomprehensible. The fact that this news comes to us halfway through Pride Month is callous – as is the administration's choice to remove the ‘T' from the acronym ‘LGBTQ+' in their announcement. Transgender people can never, and will never, be erased. “Congress can still act to reverse this fatal decision. We are asking everyone to join the overwhelming public support for evidence-based crisis services, and urge Congress to act. Learn more by visiting TheTrevorProject.org/ActNow. In September 2022, The Trevor Project began providing its best-practice crisis services to LGBTQ+ youth through the 988 Lifeline. When individuals contact the 988 via phone, text, or chat, they are given the option to “press 3” or “reply PRIDE” to be connected with counselors trained specifically to assist LGBTQ+ contacts up to age 25. Initially, The Trevor Project served as the sole provider for the pilot phase of 988 LGBTQ+ youth specialized services, before transitioning to serve as one of seven centers that currently make up the LGBTQ+ Youth Subnetwork. The Trevor Project serves nearly 50% of the LGBTQ+ youth specialized services' contact volume. In 2024 alone, The Trevor Project directly served more than 231,000 crisis contacts, and trained and supported nearly 250 crisis counselors and operational support staff to support the 988 Lifeline. Previously, the LGBTQ+ Youth Subnetwork received up to $50 million in restricted federal funds to provide these life-saving services. The Trevor Project's supporters in the House and Senate advocated for the continued funding for these life-saving programs. The organization launched a petition to demand lawmakers protect LGBTQ+ youth and an Emergency Lifeline fundraising campaign. On June 2, 2025, more than 100 entertainment icons – across film, music, TV, sports, theater, comedy, fashion, culinary arts, and book publishing – joined The Trevor Project's sign-on letter to protect federal funding for LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention. Tried It All? How One Veteran Found His Path by Figuring It Out Along the Way What if the biggest barrier to entrepreneurial success isn't having a perfect plan, but being paralyzed by trying to find one? In this episode of Engineer Your Success, Dr. James Bryant talks with Matt Thompson, Navy veteran, management consultant, and franchise owner, about the power of taking action without having all the answers. From missing out on the Naval Academy to opening a men's grooming franchise, Matt shares why "figuring it out along the way" often beats waiting for the perfect opportunity. You'll discover why communication with your spouse is the most overlooked aspect of entrepreneurship, how to pivot when reality doesn't match expectations, and what it really means to "just do it" in business. Whether you're considering a career change or exploring franchise ownership, this episode will help you move from analysis to action. Key Moments in the Episode 00:00 – The Cost of Poor Communication: Matt's biggest regret about starting his franchise and the hidden burden on spouses 02:10 – From Naval Academy Rejection to 20-Year Career: How being a "first alternate" led to an unexpected path of continuous growth 03:32 – The Chemistry Degree He Never Used: Why trying multiple paths until something fits is better than forcing the wrong one 04:43 – Accidental Entrepreneur: From retirement planning to owning a training company—how opportunities reveal themselves 05:42 – Hammer & Nails Franchise Discovery: Why his wife's "no food" rule led to the men's grooming industry 07:25 – Surprising Customer Insights: The unexpected demographics embracing men's self-care and manicures 08:35 – Marketing Reality Check: Why explaining your business concept to every potential customer is harder than expected 12:37 – Three Pieces of Franchise Advice: Just do it, ask for help, and talk to anyone who's done it before 15:25 – The Communication Lesson: What Matt wishes he knew about preparing his wife for the stress and uncertainty 18:50 – Role Reversal Interview: Matt turns the tables and interviews Dr. Bryant about entrepreneurial lessons 23:09 – Defining Success: How winning at work and home changes as life circumstances evolve Key Insights & Takeaways Don't wait for the perfect plan—start moving forward and pivot as needed The biggest entrepreneurial challenge is often communication with your spouse, not business strategy Be willing to "figure it out" rather than having all the answers upfront Most business people are eager to help and share their experiences if you approach them relationally Success definitions must evolve with your life circumstances and family needs
