December 2, 2025 Daily Devotional: “Premature Blessing” Proverbs 20:21  "An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning will not be blessed in the end." The proverb speaks of an "inheritance quickly gained at the beginning." While an inheritance itself is a blessing, the emphasis here is on the way it is acquired—"quickly gained"—and the lack of sustained effort, discipline, or patience involved. It cautions us about the dangers of instant wealth or sudden, easy gains. The core message is a principle of wisdom: What comes too easily is often lost too quickly, and it lacks the lasting blessing of God. In our modern world, we are constantly bombarded with the lure of the "quick gain": get-rich-quick schemes, instant fame on social media, or cutting corners in work or relationships what is considered as the The Mirage of the Shortcut. We often wish we could skip the process in the years of study, the difficult conversations, the slow, disciplined saving, the hard work of building character. This verse challenges the "microwave mentality." It tells us that true blessing isn't just about what we acquire, but how we acquire it and what we become in the process. Think of an unearned inheritance, if the recipient hasn't developed the character, wisdom, and stewardship skills to manage a large sum of money, it can become a curse. The blessing is lost because the foundation and the character forged through patience and hard work is missing. The wisdom of God often lies in the journey, not just the destination. God blesses the faithful stewards who patiently and diligently cultivate their resources, their talents, and their character over time. Examine your ambitions, are you pursuing shortcuts in your career, finances, or personal life? Or are you committed to the patient, ethical, and diligent path, trusting God's timing? What Are You Building Slowly? Think of one area in your life where you've been tempted to take a shortcut. What is one small, disciplined step you can take today instead to build a lasting blessing? In valuing the process and the character traits you build of discipline, patience, integrity, and diligence, while you work for your goals are the real inheritance. These are what ensure your ultimate success is not just financially rewarding, but eternally blessed. Let's Practice Gratitude for the "Smallwins". Acknowledge the small, steady progress you make today. These are the building blocks that guarantee a blessed end, far more than any fleeting, quick gain.

8 Simple Mindset Shifts to Feel Gratitude Even When Your Life Isn't Where You Want it To Be

In this episode, Jay talks about a side of gratitude we rarely acknowledge, the kind that isn’t shiny or uplifting, but the kind that helps when life feels heavy, complicated, or far from what you expected. He explains how, for years, he treated gratitude like something meant to fix pain or override his feelings, and how that mindset only added pressure instead of bringing any real peace. Jay talks about what real gratitude actually feels like, not the kind that tries to cancel out your struggles, but the kind that can sit beside them. He shares how acknowledging both things at once, what hurts and what’s still good, builds real resilience. Jay breaks down why phrases like “at least…” shut your feelings down, while using “even though…” or “and…” keeps you present with your emotions instead of pushing them away. Jay also shares the small, practical habits that help him reconnect with gratitude when it feels far away: paying attention to what stayed instead of what disappeared, taking 10-second pauses to notice something good in the moment, borrowing someone else’s joy when you can’t access your own, and writing a thank-you note to the version of you who got through the harder seasons. Jay reminds us that gratitude isn’t supposed to hide what’s hard, it’s meant to help you steady yourself. It’s the quiet admission: “Life is messy, and there’s still something I can hold onto.” In this episode, you’ll learn: How to Stop Using Gratitude to Mask Your Feelings How to Hold Pain and Gratitude Together How to Notice What Stayed, Not What Left How to Use 10-Second Pauses to Reset How to Borrow Gratitude When You Can’t Feel It How to Thank the You Who Survived You’re not doing gratitude wrong, you’re just learning to do it honestly. Keep showing up with awareness, gentleness, and patience. You’re not rebuilding from zero, you’re rebuilding from experience. With Love and Gratitude, Jay Shetty. This week, we're talking about something a lot of us experience but rarely admit—when the holiday that's supposed to give us gratitude instead leaves us needing a vacation from our vacation. Between stuffing turkeys, juggling casseroles, and navigating tricky family dynamics, it's easy to lose sight of the spirit of Thanksgiving. So, if you've ever found yourself feeling more exhausted than thankful, this episode is for you. We're unpacking why that happens and what you can DO to actually enjoy the time with your family/friends—WITHOUT burning out.So, Let's Start with This..Thanksgiving should be a time of gratitude and connection, yet for so many of us, it's stressful. The turkey's not done on time, the mashed potatoes are cold, the in-laws are early, and that one relative always finds a way to talk politics.Add the stress of work deadlines before the holiday—and the mental load that women often carry when it comes to holiday planning—and you've got a recipe for burnout. So, if you've ever ended the weekend thinking, “I need a vacation from my vacation,” you're not alone. But here's the good news: there are ways to reclaim the joy of Thanksgiving and walk away from it refreshed, not frazzled.1️⃣ Give Yourself Permission to SimplifyEverything doesn't have to be homemade. Choose one or two dishes that matter most to you, and delegate or buy the rest. Focus on connection over perfection.2️⃣ Protect Your Peace—and Your BoundariesYou can't pour from an empty cup. Schedule breaks for yourself, even if it's just ten quiet minutes on the porch with coffee. If a certain family topic always causes tension, give yourself permission to steer the conversation elsewhere—or quietly step away.3️⃣ Practice Gratitude in Real TimeBefore everyone leaves the table, take a moment to go around and have each person share one thing they're thankful for. It's a simple exercise that recent studies show can boost mood and lower cortisol levels in less than a week. Gratitude changes the tone of the room—and the tone of your heart. That's it for today, ShopTalkers! Let this be the Thanksgiving you actually enjoy—the one where you sit back, laugh a little louder, and remember what the holiday is really about.NEW HERE? Are We Being Punished By The Storms? Background - As we have tuned into the news over the past week, we have seen incredible tragedy from the storms and flooding across Texas, New Mexico, and up the eastern part of the country. In the meantime, we hear about the growing wildfires sweeping across California and the Northwest.  These days, it seems like no one is safe or spared from the storms. I've heard all kinds of reasons and thoughts behind these events. “God is punishing us”, “Climate change is real”, “We get what we deserve”, the list of explanations goes on as we try to use ideas of faith, science, and whatever else we can insert into the picture to help us reason through the storms we face.  During today's show, we are not going to attempt to explain why these storms occur.  We are not going to point fingers at who is doing things right and who is possibly doing things wrong. What we are going to do is discuss what God wants from us and what we can do to work through the storms of life. 1. Storms are Inevitable, Not Always a Consequence of Sin: If your neighborhood was hit by a tornado you might take that personally and think it was something about your sin that caused the tornado. It's a common misconception that storms or hardships are  always a direct result of personal sin. Jesus Himself stated, "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). Troubles are a given, even for believers. How about Job? He endured immense suffering despite being described as "blameless and upright" (Job 1:1).2. Storms Can Be a Means of Growth and Refinement: Just as a refiner's fire purifies gold, storms can purify our faith and character. Difficulties often expose areas where we need to grow, deepen our dependence on God, and develop perseverance. James 1:2-4 encourages us with this perspective: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." The storms, therefore, are not meant to break us, but to build us up.3. Storms Can Be a Testimony to God's Power: When we navigate storms with faith and integrity, our lives can become a powerful testimony to God's faithfulness and strength. Others observe how we respond to adversity and can be drawn to the God who sustains us. Advice - How Christians Can Expect and Make It Through Storms While Honoring God1. The Growth Mindset in a Christian Context Paul challenged believers to put effort into their spiritual life. Change is a part of growth and we should desire to be more like Jesus. A Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit who is working to make us like Jesus. Change will happen. The joy is that we can embrace it and benefit from working with God instead of against Him. A growth-minded believer: Welcomes challenges as opportunities for sanctification (James 1:2–4 NKJV). Perseveres under trial, knowing endurance produces spiritual maturity (Romans 5:3–5 NKJV). Seeks feedback and correction, recognizing rebuke refines faith (Proverbs 27:17 NKJV; Proverbs 12:1 NKJV). Celebrates others' growth, rejoicing when fellow believers flourish (Romans 12:15 NKJV). 2. Discipleship and the Great Commission Jesus' charge to “make disciples” frames our growth-oriented calling: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” —Matthew 28:19–20 (NKJV) A growth mindset fuels the “teaching” phase: we believe learners can grow in knowledge, obedience, and Christ-likeness. It also shapes our own approach, as we accept that our skills in evangelism, teaching, and mentoring improve through practice, prayer, and reliance on God. 3. Spiritual Growth is a Process Scripture depicts growth as a journey: “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” —2 Peter 3:18 (NKJV) “Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection…” —Hebrews 6:1 (NKJV) “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 3:14 (NKJV) These passages underscore that maturity takes intentional effort—exactly the outworking of a growth mindset in the spiritual realm. 4. The “One Another's” and Growth Mindset Command Scripture (NKJV) Growth-Mindset Connection Love one another John 13:34–35 Encourages perseverance in relationships even when hard. Serve one another Galatians 5:13 Builds humility and stewards gifts for others' growth. Encourage one another 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Puts others first. Admonish one another Colossians 3:16; Romans 15:14 Welcomes correction for mutual sanctification. Bear one another's burdens Galatians 6:2 Cultivates perseverance and compassion. Spur one another on Hebrews 10:24 Motivates toward good deeds and spiritual progress. Pray for one another James 5:16 Invites God's transforming power in growth. Be kind and tenderhearted Ephesians 4:32 Gives mercy to those who need it, we all do! Together, these “one another's” form the relational soil in which a growth mindset flourishes—each believer both a learner and a teacher, giving and receiving grace, correction, encouragement, and accountability. 5. Practical Implications for Disciple Makers Model a growth mindset by sharing your own struggles and progress in Bible study, prayer, or ministry skills. Set incremental goals for disciples (e.g., memorizing Scripture, leading a small group), celebrating small wins to build confidence (Zechariah 4:10 NKJV). Cultivate “one another” rhythms in your church—regular accountability groups, prayer partnerships, and service teams. Teach the biblical process of growth—explain that sanctification involves trials, correction, and perseverance, rooted in passages like James 1:2–4 (NKJV) and Hebrews 12:11 (NKJV). Encourage reflection—have disciples journal progress, confess weaknesses, and plan next steps, reinforcing that effort and dependence on Christ yield transformation.   **(00:00) END PART 1** **(27:00 – 5:00) BEGIN PART 2**   The Holy Spirit reshapes how we think about challenges, our own abilities, and the process of sanctification. 1. Confess Fixed-Mindset Thinking and Renew Your Mind “I can't change,” “I can't do that.” and the like are big hinderances to spiritual growth. Lies need to be brought into the light and exchanged for truth. The question should be, “What is God doing? What does HE want me to do?” God empowers His people for His work. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” —Romans 12:2 (NKJV) Practice: Keep a “mindset journal.” When you catch yourself thinking “I'll never grow in this,” write it down and pray: “Lord, show me Your truth here.” Replace it with a Scriptural affirmation (“I can grow by God's grace”—Philippians 4:13). 2. Meditate on God's Word Daily A growth mindset flourishes when immersed in truth. Scripture both reveals God's power to change us and gives the roadmap. Read, Think Deeply about, and put it into practice. “…but his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.” —Psalm 1:2 (NKJV) Practice: Start with 5–10 minutes each morning reading a short passage (e.g. one chapter of Proverbs or the Gospels). Ask: “What does this teach me about God's promise to strengthen me?” 3. Pray for Wisdom and Perseverance Growth requires divine enablement—both insight and the grit to keep going. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally…” —James 1:5 (NKJV) “Count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” —James 1:2–3 (NKJV) Practice: Begin each day by asking God for wisdom to see opportunities for growth and the patience to endure them. When trials come (at work, in relationships, in ministry), thank Him for the refining work He intends. 4. Engage in Christian Community Even if attendance has been spotty, intentional fellowship is vital for encouragement, accountability, and skill development. “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another…” —Hebrews 10:24–25 (NKJV) “As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” —Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV) Practice: Commit to attending at least one fellowship gathering (Sunday service, small group, men's/women's Bible study). Ask a mature believer to meet monthly as a “growth partner” for prayer and feedback. 5. Set Small, Measurable Goals for Spiritual Disciplines SMART goals Growth rarely happens overnight. Incremental victories build confidence that God can grow you further. “For who has despised the day of small things?…” —Zechariah 4:10 (NKJV) Practice: Choose one discipline (e.g., Scripture memory, daily prayer journaling, service) and set a tiny goal: memorize one verse a week, pray five minutes daily, serve once a month. Celebrate each completion by recording it in your journal and thanking God. 6. Welcome Correction and Feedback A growth mindset leans into rebuke, knowing it produces maturity. “The ear that hears the rebukes of life Will abide among the wise.” —Proverbs 15:31 (NKJV) “But exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,' lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” —Hebrews 3:13 (NKJV) Practice: Invite a trusted mentor or friend to give you honest feedback on your spiritual habits. When you receive correction, respond with “Thank you—help me understand how to improve.” 7. Practice Gratitude and Celebrate Others' Growth Focusing on progress—both yours and others'—reinforces a mindset that abilities can expand. “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” —Romans 12:15 (NKJV) “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” —1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) Practice: Keep a “gratitude list” of spiritual wins you see in yourself and others. Send a quick note or text to encourage a fellow believer when they share a breakthrough. 8. Rely on God's Strength in Weakness A growth mindset isn't self-reliance; it's dependence on Christ, who is at work in us. “…when I am weak, then I am strong.” —2 Corinthians 12:10 (NKJV) Practice: In moments of discouragement (“I failed again…”), confess your weakness and ask Christ to work through it. Memorize 2 Corinthians 12:9–10 and speak it aloud whenever you feel stuck.     **(5:00 – 1:00)** Doctrine Today Jesus and His Present Ministry The Holy Spirit's Role in Disciple Making. Dispensational Baptist view of the End Times Understanding Theology is Important The Gospel and Ongoing Disciple Making Church Role in Discerning God's Will Barriers to Disciple Making Spiritual Warfare Jesus – Incarnation God's Sovereignty God's sovereignty means that God reigns over all things with perfect wisdom, power, and love, and nothing in our lives is outside His control. 1. God's Sovereignty Brings Peace in Uncertainty When life feels chaotic or unjust, God's sovereignty assures us that nothing happens apart from His knowledge or plan. “The Lord has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all.” —Psalm 103:19 (NKJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” —Romans 8:28 (NKJV) Why it matters: Even suffering and confusion have purpose under God's rule. He's not reacting—He's reigning. 2. God's Sovereignty Fuels Evangelism and Disciple-Making Because God is sovereign over salvation, we can evangelize boldly, knowing He draws hearts to Himself. “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.” —John 6:37 (NKJV) “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him…” —John 6:44 (NKJV) Why it matters: The results of disciple-making aren't on your shoulders. You sow and water; God gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6–7 NKJV). 3. God's Sovereignty Grounds Our Identity and Purpose You are not random. You are created, saved, and called intentionally. “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.” —Psalm 139:16 (NKJV) “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” —Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) Why it matters: Your life, your calling, and even your challenges are part of God's good and sovereign plan. 4. God's Sovereignty Produces Worship and Humility When we recognize God is in control and we are not, we bow in awe and dependence. “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head over all.” —1 Chronicles 29:11 (NKJV) “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. —Isaiah 55:8 (NKJV) Why it matters: Sovereignty reminds us that God is God—and we are not. 5. God's Sovereignty Guarantees His Promises Will Stand We can believe God's Word with full assurance because no power can thwart His will. “Indeed before the day was, I am He; And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?” —Isaiah 43:13 (NKJV) “The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.” —Psalm 33:11 (NKJV) Why it matters: Our eternal hope is secure because it rests in God's unshakable rule.   **(1:00)** It's important for all of us to see the big picture in life. God IS working and He WILL complete His work in you. Daily remind yourself that God is drawing you to Himself and He invites you to be an active participant in your spiritual growth. Reject the lie that you can't change. See the person God wants you to be and put real effort into doing your part, trusting that God will always do His part.   – “Thank you for listening today! -If you enjoyed the show you can listen to all the past shows wherever you listen to podcasts. Here are five practical ways to slow down and savor life, helping you create more balance, joy, and mindfulness in your personal and entrepreneurial journey. Life moves FAST, doesn't it? If we're not careful, we get swept up in the hustle, always chasing the next thing, and suddenly, we realize we haven't truly enjoyed our days. I've been there, pushing, striving, and forgetting to pause. But this year, I'm making a conscious effort to slow down, reflect, and soak in life's little joys. If you're feeling stretched thin, you are NOT alone. Let's do this together! Here are five ways we can all slow down and savor life. Action Plan: 1 - Prioritize What Matters Most: Do a time audit, set boundaries, and make sure your daily actions reflect what's truly important. 2 - Be Mindful in the Present Moment: Take a deep breath, engage your senses, and stop letting distractions pull you away from what really matters. 3 - Simplify Your Day: Clear the clutter from your schedule, cut out unnecessary tasks, and create routines that bring ease instead of stress. 4 - Make Time for Joyful Activities: Schedule FUN into your week, say "yes" to spontaneous moments, and do the things that fill your cup. 5 - Practice Gratitude for the Small Things:  Keep a gratitude journal, notice the little joys in each day, and share your appreciation with others. One way to feel more thankful for things is to imagine life without them. We explore a practice shown to help you see the bright side, even when you feel down.We know gratitude is good for us, but what if we're struggling to feel it? This week's guest, author and podcast producer Stephanie Foo, finds herself missing her close-knit “chosen family” in California since moving to New York. Foo tries a practice called mental subtraction, where she imagines her life without New York. Later, gratitude researcher Ernst Bohlmeijer  shares how gratitude practices can reshape our emotions and possibly our whole outlook, and how the Mental Subtraction of Positive Events practice can be antidote to taking things for granted.Practice: Take a moment to think about a positive event in your life. It could be a career or educational achievement or a special trip you took. Imagine yourself back in the time of this event. Think about the circumstances that made it possible.  Ponder on the ways in which this event may never have happened. For example, if you hadn't learned about a certain job opening at the right moment.  Write down all of the possible events and decisions - large and small - that could have gone differently and prevented this positive event from occurring.  Imagine what your life would be like now if you had not experienced this positive event and all the fruits that came from it.  Remind yourself that this positive event did happen and reflect upon the benefits it has brought you. Allow yourself to feel grateful that things happened as they did.  Find the full Mental Subtraction of Positive Events practice at our Greater Good in Action website: https://ggia.berkeley.edu/practice/mental_subtraction_positive_eventsToday's guests:Stephanie Foo is a radio producer and author of the book What My Bones Know: A Memoir of Healing from Complex Trauma.Learn more about Stephanie and her book: https://www.stephaniefoo.me/Follow Stephanie on Twitter: https://twitter.com/imontheradioFollow Stephanie on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/foofoofoo/Follow Stephanie on Facebook:https://tinyurl.com/yx6pwdnfErnst Bohlmeijer is a psychology professor who studies gratitude at the University of Twente in The Netherlands.Learn more about Ernst and his work: https://tinyurl.com/2p92p6vnScience of Happiness Episodes like this one: Four Great Gratitude Strategies: https://tinyurl.com/2p9buvkd Tips for Keeping a Gratitude Journal: https://tinyurl.com/3jdbe52u Five Science-Backed Strategies for More Happiness: https://tinyurl.com/bd4ussjt Transcript: https://tinyurl.com/4r84778r

Episode #195: Crush Limiting Beliefs And Find Joy Within Join us today as Colleen Interview's Coleen Greco on Take the Leap. We dive deep into the essence of joy and as we approach our milestone 200th episode, I couldn't think of a better topic to explore than joy—something we all strive for but often find elusive. Here are three key takeaways from our enlightening conversation that I believe can inspire you on your journey: Joy vs. Happiness: Colleen beautifully articulates the difference between joy and happiness. While happiness is often a fleeting emotion tied to external circumstances, joy is a deeper, more enduring state of being that comes from within. It's about cultivating a mindset that allows us to find joy in the smallest moments, regardless of our external situations. This distinction is crucial for anyone looking to enhance their emotional well-being. The SNAP Method: Colleen introduced us to her transformative SNAP method, which stands for Stop, Notice, Accept (or Analyze), and Practice Gratitude. This powerful framework helps us confront our limiting beliefs and emotional triggers. By stopping to acknowledge our feelings, noticing the patterns, analyzing the facts versus our perceptions, and practicing gratitude, we can shift our mindset and open ourselves up to greater abundance and joy. It's a practical tool that anyone can implement in their daily lives! The Power of Community: One of the most poignant moments in our discussion was the emphasis on community. Colleen shared her personal story of how her son's struggles with bullying and a suicide attempt highlighted the importance of having a supportive network. When we feel isolated, it can be easy to spiral into negative thoughts. Building and nurturing a community around us can provide the love and support we need to navigate life's challenges and rediscover joy.
