The Uh-Oh Feeling is a comedy podcast about survival stories. From true crime, to the truly weird, your hosts, Taylor and Emily, talk about people who've survived everything and anything.
Hello glorious listeners, please forgive us for that title! We promise it will make sense later (sort of). Taylor and Emily are back and this time we're joined by a special guest: the oft-mentioned but elusive Jake (Taylor's husband)! Emily saved a special story for him--a frustrating tale of what happens when radioactive material is introduced into a town in Brazil where nobody knows the danger it poses. And Taylor brings us the tale of a man named Michel Lotito, whose knew the dangers of his very strange diet, and kept on eating bicycles anyway. Grab a Smirnoff Ice or something else that reminds you of college, and sit down with us!
We're back and we've got our occasional co-host Kat with us! The three of us embark first on a journey to the ocean, where Emily tells us the uncomfortable tale of Chris Lemons and his two companions trying to survive a deep sea excursion after disaster strikes, and then Taylor tells the infuriating story of the Paradise Fire of 2018, and a heroic nurse who survived it. Grab your coolest bottle of red wine and join us!
We've missed you so, listeners! We're back with another podcast and we'd love for you to join us on this journey. Emily starts us off with talk of cryptids and a man named Roy who narrowly escapes his encounter with a Louisiana werewolf. Then, Taylor takes us down low with the story of photographer Robbie Shone, who survives a terrifying encounter in the deepest cave in the world. Grab a drink that reminds you of Thanksgiving (trust us) and join us!
HALLO THERE! We're back and we're talking more crazy survival stories, as is our wont. Taylor tells the story of Beck Weathers, one of the survivors of the 1996 Mt. Everest Disaster that claimed the lives of 15 people. Emily slings martinis and brings us the tale of Kennedy, an Idaho teen who survived a horrific car crash and harrowing rescue in 2021. Grab a gin-based drink and join us! You're gonna need it.
It's that time of year again, listeners! We're joined by our favorite guest, Kat, and we're ready to get spooky. Emily is talking the problematic legacy of Ed and Lorraine Warren and that time a guy tried to get out of a murder charge by claiming "not guilty by reason of demonic possession." Then, Taylor regales us with the eerily real haunting of The House on Beryl Rd. Grab your nearest creepy cocktail, and sit down with us!
This episode is brought to you by entropy. Hey there! We lost the first half of this episode immediately after recording it for reasons we may never truly understand. But we salvaged it in the best way we could, and we still managed to have fun along the way. Taylor "begins" the ep by telling the story of Katie Starks, a possible survivor of the dreaded Texarkana Phantom Killer. Then, Emily gives a fast-paced version of her lost story about Adolfe Sax, inventor of the saxophone, that is fueled entirely by alcohol and rage. Grab a drink, and toast to losing audio and letting chaos reign.
HELLO! We're here, and we're ready to chat! Taylor starts us off with the story of Ada Blackjack, a woman who survived two years on an arctic island, and Emily surprises us with what we're calling The Halifax Explosion 2: The Squeaquel. Grab a home-made jell-o shot, or something equally dangerous, and join us!
HEY HEY HEY! We've compiled enough recordings of us screaming about various things to put together our first best of ep! With some life complications, this was the perfect time to do it and make sure we weren't dipping out on y'all for a couple weeks. Sorry this is late in going out, but please enjoy! Time stamps: 00:01:00 - José Salvador Alvarenga 00:26:00 - Are Tornadlios sentient, Matt Suter survival story 00:50:00 - Galveston Hurricane, but did the cow survive? 1:20:00 - Roy Sullivan, Can of Water
Hello all! We're back again with another episode, and we truly did try to keep it light this time! In our defense, these stories are much lighter than our normal ones...and that's really all you can expect from us. Emily tells the story of Frane Selak, the luckiest unlucky man on earth, and Taylor tells the tale of Michael Malloy, a man who didn't survive so much as he just wouldn't die. Grab an absurd amount of booze and join us!
*Apologies for the very slight echo you might hear at certain points, we've done our best to minimize it.* HALLO! We're here! It's ep 105, and Taylor's kicking it off with the tale of the Halifax Explosion, a Canadian national tragedy and a truly crazy story. Emily somehow gets the clap over the harp noise, but stays strong with the story of brothers Lucas and Christopher Leonard, who suffered abuse at the hands of the Word of Life Christian Church.
You thought we dipped, didn't you? But we're back! We, like many of you, have abortion rights on the brain, so we tell a couple stories adjacent to that. Emily starts us off with a history of Eugenics in America, and the story Minnie and Mary, two black girls who brought the horrors of forced sterilization to light. Then, Taylor tells the story of Dr. Garson Romalis, an abortion provider who was shot in his own home. Grab a fish-bowl sized drink and join us. #youonlyyearonce
Taylor and Emily are back and they should have eaten before recording this one, they'll be honest. First, Taylor finally goes *there* and tells the story of a 9/11 survivor, with a big twist. Then, Emily reminds us that our prison system is a joke with the story of the New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot of 1980. Grab a drink and join us!
Hello again! We've got gentle drinks, and rough stories on this one, folks. Emily starts us off with the story of Kevin Ramsby, who was stabbed in his own home and lived to forgive his attacker. Taylor then brings us some early Uh-Oh vibes with a few survivors of the serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, also known as the Yorkshire Ripper.
Hello, listeners! We're officially back up and running, and so we're so glad to be here! We kick off this next 100 episodes with a random drink generator, and immediate regret. Taylor then tells us the story of the Banqiao Dam failure of 1975. Then Emily takes it home with the story of when two intrepid women met a crocodile, and only one made it out alive.
In case you can't tell from all the screaming, this is our 100th episode of Uh-Oh! We have our occasional co-host, Kat, along for the ride, as we give each other presents, and gag on some truly terrible alcohol. We do manage to get to a couple of EPIC stories as well. Emily tells the story of Rodney King, whose encounter with police set off a 3-day riot in LA. Then Kat gives us a quick palette cleanser of a story, before Taylor launches into the tale of the Chowchilla kidnapping and their favorite survivor to-date. Enjoy! And thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. 100, baby!
Don't worry, no one's on drugs or getting locked in a fridge. We have a special guest, and she is here to tell her story in her own words! That's right, Emily and I are not trading stories for this one. Instead, we are joined by Susan, a woman who has a harrowing tale to tell, and was kind enough to come on this podcast to do it. We were so honored to have her, and we're very excited for you to hear her story. We hope everyone has been having a happy and safe holiday season. The next time you see us will be for our 100th Episode Celebration! Much love!
Happy holidays and a good Monday to you, listeners! Emily closes out her three-part series with story of the Kent State Massacre, the victims, and the 9 students who were shot, but survived. Then Taylor makes Emily scream by finally bringing in the tale of Harrison Okene, a tugboat cook who spent three days trapped in a sunken ship. Yeah, you read that right. Emily's story begins: 4:20 Taylor's story begins: 45:45
Hello! You join us on part 2 of Emily's 3-part Survivor series. If you haven't listened to episode 96, it might give you some context to go do that first. But! Before we get to that, Taylor keeps it light with the story of Casey Hathaway, a young boy who gets lost in the woods and found under strange (and some say suspicious) circumstances. Then Emily hits us right in the feels with the story of 3 incredible survivors of the Cambodian genocide.
We hope you find this episode, very a-peel-ing! That joke only works if you've already listened. Anyway-- Emily is starts us off with the first installment of a THREE-PARTER! That's right, we've got a little cause-and-effect coming your way. Get excited, but not too excited because it does all kick off with America bombing the hell out of Cambodia. Which, to be clear, sucks. Then, Taylor brings you the story of Margaret Gwyer, who has been added to the list of her favorite "people who survive sinking ships in the lease likely way possible." Audio issue at 57 minutes has been fixed.
Happy Halloween, listeners! Emily and Taylor are joined by their friend Michelle, who has graciously allowed them to record in her attic, which she's pretty sure is haunted. Taylor tells the story of Brian Massey, the lone survivor of his own stepfather's Halloween rampage. Then, Emily takes us right up to the edge with the tale of Theodor Edward Coneys, the Spider Man of Denver. Content warning: child abuse, rape, murder, mental illness, horror imagery Featured in this Ep: Emily checks, bumps in the night, daiquiris, our best evil laugh
Goooooood day, listeners! Taylor and Emily are joined by their dear friend and occasional co-host Kat for this crazy romp of an ep. Taylor starts us off talking about Jaila Gladden, the college student whose quick thinking saved her from a fate worse than being abducted. Then Emily reminds us that traveling used to be, somehow, worse than it is now, with the story of Jackie Pflug, who was aboard a plane that was hijacked in 1985.
We're back and we're suffering. That's nothing new! At least we've got a good attitude about it. Emily reminds us why we cannot stop fighting for women's and POC rights with the stories of Anarcha, Lucy, and Betsey, three slave women who endured painful experimental surgeries at the hands of the monstrous Dr. Marion Sims. Taylor brings the temperature right down with the story of The Schoolchildren's Blizzard, and the 19-year-old teacher whose quick thinking saved her students.
We've got a new mic and a new set-up and boy are we proud! This is finally it, guys. We talk big talk all the time about how we sound, but this is as good as it's ever been. Taylor's bringing you the inspiring story of Angela Hernandez, a young woman who survived tumble off a 200 foot cliff in her car. Then Emily pushes us out of an emotional plane with the story of Victoria Cilliers, a woman who had to survive much more than just a fall from 3,000ft.
It's Monday and we're coming at ya! We hope everyone has been staying safe and kind and happy out there. This episode, Emily tells the shocking and tragic story of the New London School Explosion. After recovering from that (with the help of tequila), Taylor brings us the tale of Anatoli Burgorski, a man who survived a particle accelerator shot straight to the dome.
Happy the day that it is! Coming at you STRONG with episode 90, in which Emily tells the story of two trapped men who survived because beer's technically a liquid, and Taylor talks about the massive eruption of Mt. St. Helens. We also just straight up don't tell you what not to forget a can of in this one. We hope you can forgive us.
Well hello again! We're in a new space but we've kept that same old manic energy. This time, Taylor tells the story of Nadia Comaneci, the famous Olympic gymnast who should be known as a survivor in addition to one of the world's greatest athletes. Then, Emily takes us to the recent past with a tragic story from 2020, about a man who had a truly awful experience with the investing app Robinhood.
Gooooooood Monday to ye! Emily starts us off strong with a man named Alex who barely walks away from an encounter with a rare squid species, while Taylor gives us the story of a man falsely accused of murder, who was saved by a TV show she just cannot stand. Enjoy!
Hello!! Thank you all for your patience, we took a brief intermission while Taylor moved, but we're back with an episode we recorded a couple weeks ago! We're big fans of this one, as we've got 2 stories that are both delightful and infuriating. Taylor tells the tale of the Great Molasses Flood of 1919, and Emily makes good on her promise to tell the story of the Costa Concordia cruise ship disaster from all the way back in 2012. We love being back!
We're back and it's time for another episode! Emily starts us off with the tragic history of Project 100,000 and the "New Standards Men", and Taylor tells the story of Mohammed Aisha, a sailor who was just freed after being trapped on a boat for 4 years in the Suez Gulf. (PS Forgive the audio, in the first half, we're still struggling to understand what type of blood sacrifice this soundboard requires in order to behave normally for an entire recording session at a time.)
Gooooooooood whatever time it is where you are! We're back at ya after a short break with another episode! We're sorry this one isn't so fun, but hey, we all gotta learn something once in a while, even if that something sucks. Taylor tells us the story of Darrell Cannon, just one survivor of Jon Burge's Chicago police torture ring (yeah.) And Emily walks us through a bit of history on Slave Patrols, but finishes telling us about the inspiring, incredible woman Ida B. Wells.
Emily and Taylor are joined by their awesome friend, Ret, who is there to be both witness to and cause of things getting...weird. Emily tells several stories of people who survive falling off of cruise ships, and Taylor gets religious (lol) with the near-death-experience story of Mary Neal. There's also a surprising amount of talk about if the movie Titanic were a porno. So. There's that. Enjoy!
Content Warning, which is also stated within the episode: discussions of suicide and suicidal ideation. Taylor tells the story of Constantinos "Danny" Filipidis, who went missing in upstate New York, and was found 6 days later in California. Emily's story earns our content warning with the story of Emily Torchiana, a woman who was endured intense cyberbullying in high school and went on to become an educator and activist.
We done switched steezes here, everyone. Emily's talking avalanches, and specifically a man who survived one very recently. Turns out--we don't like avalanches any more than we like tsunamis. Taylor went full true-crime, with the story of the abduction of Ben Ownby-- a boy whose rescue leads to the recovery of another victim as well--Shawn Hornbeck. Our occasional co-host Kat is with us, and we neglect to mention it, but she has a great new podcast called Perfectly Marvelous, a watch-along pod about The Marvelous Ms. Maisel. Find it here: https://perfectlymarvelouspod.podbean.com/
Happy Monday, everyone! This episode, Taylor brings you the story of Haley Zega, who had help from a strange phenomena while lost in the woods as a little girl. Then, Emily brings the train straight into sads-burg with a story you may remember: The 2017 stabbing of Micah Fletcher and 2 others on the light rail in Portland.
Hello everyone! This episode, Emily tells the tragic story of 4 people who died, and 2 children who survived, a horrible accident at the Dreamworld theme park in Australia. Then, Taylor attempts to lift her co-host's spirits with a story of a community who comes together to find a missing woman, Lisa Holman.
Hello listeners! We keep things light-ish for the first 80% of this episode, with Taylor telling the story of Ross Capicchioni, a young man who survived being shot multiple times by someone he thought was a friend, and Emily tells the story of the 1858 Bradford sweets poisoning, and it is exactly as weird as it sounds. After a harp noise, we do go on to decompress a bit about the events of last week, for anyone who gets ASMR out of hearing people bitch.
Emily and Taylor manage once again to be on similar wavelengths with their stories-- Emily tells the story of sisters Leslie Roy and Lee Wright, who survive a time stuck in the cold wilderness with some good spirit and ingenuity. Taylor tells the opposite of that-- David Coughlin and Raffi Kodikian, two men stuck in the desert who give into terrifying delusions of their own imminent death.
DISCLAIMER: Hey all we are so happy to be back, and we hope, in the spirit of being reunited, you will forgive this little whoopsie. Emily's story is actually one we have covered on a previous episode. HOWEVER, it does have some more updated information, and because neither of us realized this at the time of recording...we treat it like a brand new story. Originally in episode 47, Em tells the story of Nikki Goeser, a stalking survivor turned guns-rights activist. Taylor, meanwhile, brings the story of Jacklyn H. Lucas, aka Mr. Immortal, who survived pretty much everything the military could throw at him.
It's our spooky ep, everyone! We've got our friend Lizz on this one for the first time! There's an attempt at making black vodka, there are tangents, and there are stories that err on the spookier side-- but really, at this point, what's spookier than other human beings? Nothing! Emily talks of a teacher who comes to believe her students are possessed by demons, and Taylor brings your the story of 2 families who survived being stalked by someone they called 'Restricted'.
Happy 75th everyone! Is this the...diamond anniversary? I don't know and I refuse to look it up. This episode both has a bear and WAS a bear, so, we apologize for the tardiness, but we hope that you enjoy this episode. Taylor's got a bear story (because we just can't stop, I don't know what to tell you) that is truly insane-- so no skipping! And Emily tells the story of a heroic survivor of one of the Charlottesville "Unite the Right" rally of 2017. Please vote, and be good to each other.
Hello, listeners! We're here, bringing you a new episode which is, overall, pretty chill. We're keeping things light this time around, and we're harkening back to Uh-Oh eps of old. There's a bear attack story from Emily, and a story about a weird flood from Taylor. There may also be a tangent in the middle about a new tv show we'd like to pitch to the Travel Channel. We hope you enjoy this light one, and we hope that you and yours are safe and as happy as this hellish time will allow. Much love!
Hello all! We love you! And we also love our friend Mike, who does a super fun podcast called The Millennium Fandom, and who put up with us one night last month when we drank too much and yelled at him about true crime. Please give this episode a listen, we had so much fun guesting for him. And please give a listen to the rest of The Millennium Fandom. We guarantee you'll find a topic you love covered there. We will return to you in the next 2 weeks! Thanks!
Warning: The title is a lie. It's not fine, y'all, but you already know that. Today, Taylor and Emily take you on a bit of a weird trek through the history of Sundown Towns, a lesser known part of America's racist past, as well as an even weirder trek through the parts ofreddit that Emily really should know to avoid by now. There are survivor stories in there, we promise.
We got a long one for you this time, folks! But that's just because we had so much fun with our friend, Michael Bubbers, and we had to take the time to thoroughly ruin his day with our typical bullshit. Emily tells the story of Riley, a badass sex worker who has survived 4 serial killers (!?), and Taylor delves into the world of hostage standoffs, with the story of the 2018 Trader Joe's Hostage Incident. Enjoy! Thanks again to Mike for being such an awesome guest. Please give his podcast The Millenium Fandom some love! It's a ton of fun and we're sure he's covered a topic that you love as much as his guests: https://themillenniumfandom.podbean.com/
It's us again! Who did you expect? We're back with another episode, in which Taylor THINKS she's going with some standard fare by talking about Autumn Veach, an amazing 16-year-old who survived a plane crash and a trek off a mountain, but really it was Emily who went with what appears to be the new normal for the podcast, with a tale about a J-Pop star getting stalked and attacked, and no one doing anything about it. We get pissed about the police, we yell about burning it all down, we drink. You know, 2020 things.
We're here! And we're staying angry, y'all. Emily's got a story of a woman stalked and framed by the ultimate Karen, and Taylor tells the story of Chrystul Kizer, a young woman going to trial for the murder of her own abuser.
Well it's finally here, the episode we've all been waiting for. The dirtiest, nastiest podcast we've done...ok, in all honesty, we talk about dicks like 15% more than normal. But we do tell some non-violent, entirely consensual, stories involving sex. We wanted to stay on the lighter side for this one, so we hope you have as much fun listening as we did recording. Topics include: death and how it makes you mega horny, just eating whatever you want on a first date, goddammit, and which one of us would top (why?????). Enjoy!
Today, dear listeners, we bring you a time capsule. This episode, due to some audio issues on the ep we recorded this week, is from ye olde Early March, 2020. You haven't heard it, so that's fun. Warning: This one deals with illness and disease. Emily tells stories of multiple couples who survived the literal plague, LIKE 10 YEARS AGO, and Taylor brings you the tale of an American man who had Ebola, and only recently started talking about it. We're joined by our favorite occasional co-host, Kat, and we had tons of fun recording it, so we're glad you're getting to hear it now. Stay safe out there.
Welp. Hey everyone. We understand if people are looking for escapism in their media right now, and this episode is not that, so-- CONTENT WARNING: police brutality, racism, murder, violence against black people and protesters. Taylor starts off by telling the story of a lesser-known American atrocity: The MOVE bombing of 1985. And Emily has brought together relevant information and accounts from current protests, as well as her own experiences as a person of color in this country. Stay safe, stay educated, stay vigilant. We love and appreciate all of you.
HELLO ALL YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! Thank you all for your love and your patience. Things are far from ok or normal, but we really wanted to get back to making this podcast, for our sanity, and hopefully for your enjoyment. We hope you're ready to get real sad and indignant, 'cause we sure did! Emily starts us off with the story of the tragic suicides in the House of David cult, and Taylor brings back an old standby, the antarctic expedition, with a new tale about people who can't get enough of the worst place on earth. We hope you're all safe and healthy. Thanks for sticking with us.
CAVEAT: Yes, we have a new mic (thank you patrons) and yes it is VERY good, but we don't quite know how to use it yet, evidently. It functions differently than our other mics, so Em doesn't actually sound as CRISP as we would have wanted, but we are working on it, and next time we'll have it down. MOVING ON. This ep we have our awesome friend Kevin on as a guest! Taylor tells the story of a man named Mauro who survives being lost in the Sahara desert, and Emily tells us the harrowing story of people who survived attacks by the goddamn Zodiac Killer. It's long and it's fun, we hope you like it!
