Theology In Particular is a podcast about theology and the church from a confessional reformed baptist perspective. We will discuss a variety of theological topics, biblical texts and even do a few books reviews along the way. A podcast by IRBS Theological Seminary.
The Theology In Particular podcast is a remarkable and valuable resource for anyone interested in theological discussions and the history of the Christian faith. Hosted by Dr. Renihan and Dr. Barcellos, this podcast stands out among the plethora of theological podcasts available today. With its consistent Reformed/Particular Baptist platform, it provides listeners with insightful and thought-provoking conversations that can be revisited time after time.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the expertise and knowledge displayed by Dr. Renihan and Dr. Barcellos. As theologians themselves, they bring a depth of understanding and insight to each episode that is truly commendable. Their ability to distill complex theological concepts into digestible discussions is both impressive and helpful for listeners who may not have an extensive background in theology.
Furthermore, the emphasis on history in this podcast is particularly noteworthy. The hosts delve into various historical periods, exploring key figures, events, and movements that have shaped Christianity throughout the centuries. This historical perspective adds richness to their theological discussions, allowing listeners to gain a deeper appreciation for how theology has developed over time.
While there are many aspects to praise about The Theology In Particular podcast, there are a few potential downsides to consider as well. One such aspect is the occasional use of technical language that may be difficult for those new to theology to grasp fully. However, this is only a minor drawback as the hosts do an excellent job of explaining these terms in understandable ways.
In conclusion, The Theology In Particular podcast is a treasure trove of theological wisdom and historical insights that will undoubtedly benefit any listener seeking a deeper understanding of their faith. In Episode 165 of Theology In Particular, I'm joined by Dr. James Renihan to discuss Ephesians 4:11-13: “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ…” (Ephesians 4:11–13, ESV). The question is, who is to do “the work of ministry”? Does this work belong to the “saints”, or “the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers”? The popular interpretation today is that the saints are to be equipped to do the work of the ministry. Dr. Renihan argues that the work of the ministry is to de done by shepherds and teachers. In Episode 149 of Theology In Particular Dr. Richard Barcellos returns to talk about the scope of Scripture. This is now the third conversation we have devoted to this topic. In the first, Dr. Barcellos introduced the principle that Scripture has a scope, focus, or bullseye. In the second, Dr. Barcellos walked us through some passages in the New Testament to demonstrate that Christ and his Apostles interpreted the Old Testament Scriptures – the law, prophets, and Psalms – as having ultimate reference to Christ. Here in this third conversation, we look at 1 Peter 1:10-12 to further prove the point. Contact:For information about International Reformed Baptist Seminary, go to irbsseminary.org.
