Confessing the Faith Conference 2025Join us live as we gather to deepen our understanding of the historic Reformed confessions—the Second London Baptist, Westminster, Savoy, and Belgic. Through faithful preaching and teaching, we aim to magnify Christ and recover the clarity, unity, and conviction found in the great doctrinal summaries of the Christian faith.Speakers: Dr Sam Renihan and Dr James Dolezal.Conference website: https://www.confessingthefaith.ca
Episode Notes Central to the historic Christian faith is the confession that our God is triune, one in being and three in persons. Admittedly, this truth exceeds our ability to comprehend. But we shouldn't allow that to keep us from seeking to understand what we can of what God has revealed of himself. To that end, Dr. James Dolezal, professor of theology at Cairn University, joins Dr. Keith Plummer to discuss his chapter on divine simplicity and the Trinity in IVP's 2024 award-winning book On Classical Trinitarianism.

Hosts Jonathan Master and James Dolezal welcome back J.V. Fesko, the Harriet Barber Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary, to discuss his new book, The Giver of Life: The Biblical Doctrine of the Holy Spirit and Salvation, in which John reflects on the person and work of the Holy Spirit and his role in salvation. With many other historic texts available which address this topic, why did John want to write about the Holy Spirit? Every generation has to own the teaching of Scripture in order to pass it on to future generations. We can't just assume it. We have to own it. – J.V. Fesko Through a combination of biblical, historical, and theological study, Fesko illuminates the blessing of God's presence with his people. This episode is a rich discussion for anyone interested in deepening their understanding of the Holy Spirit's work in salvation. Thanks to the generosity of Lexham Press, we are pleased to offer two copies of The Giver of Life: The Biblical Doctrine of the Holy Spirit and Salvation, by J.V. Fesko. Enter here.
Episode Notes Dr. James Dolezal speaks on "God's Mercy Vindicated," referencing questions 11, 12, and 13 from the Heidelberg Catechism.

In this episode, Jonny and John-Mark are joined by James Dolezal to discuss the weaknesses of revelational epistemology in theology. They begin by discussing Barth's approach to revelational epistemology, before moving to more contemporary approaches often labelled 'Van Tillian' or 'Reformed'. Some key figures discussed in this episode are Barth, Descartes, Kant, Aquinas, and Cornelius Van Til. The guys close by discussing some implications, and making the positive case for a classic nature / grace distinction in epistemology, where the Word of God bears upon all things pertaining to salvation. To get hold of James Dolezal's book "All That is in God" go to our Bookshop HERE.Support the Show.Contact Broken Wharfe Tweet us @Brokenwharfe Find us on Facebook at BrokenWharfe Follow us on Instagram at BrokenWharfe Email us at info@brokenwharfe.com Thanks for listening!

As both of our hosts are respected authors and enjoy discussing a great book, it would only follow that sometimes the interviewers would become interviewees. Such is the case on this Podcast Wednesday as James Dolezal grills (even fillets!) Jonathan Master concerning his book Growing in Grace: Becoming More Like Jesus. It's an accessible work that deals with the scriptural command for Christians to work diligently at growing in the grace and personal knowledge of the Lord. That includes walking worthy of our calling and enjoying the blessings of our salvation through the gathering together with others in the Church. Dr. Master explains how we're called to die to sin and be enslaved to righteousness, and discusses the roles humility and suffering play in the growth of every believer. In Episode 59 of Theology In Particular, Dr. James Dolezal demonstrates the usefulness of philosophical theology by wrestling with the metaphysical problem of the one and the many. I would encourage the listener to persevere through this rather long and unusually technical interview. I do believe that the importance and usefulness of this philosophical conversation will become apparent by the end.
In Episode 58 of Theology In Particular, Dr. James Dolezal introduces us to philosophical theology. He makes a case for its usefulness, especially to pastors and theologians. This interview will require you to exert some mental energy. The payoff will be worth it.

On this Podcast Wednesday, Jonathan Master and James Dolezal are asking: Was Jacob Arminius a Reformed theologian who held to the basic tenets of Reformed soteriology? Today's guest skillfully dissects his writings on predestination, union with Christ, justification, and more to effectively prove that Arminius' views on salvation differed significantly from confessional norms. J.V. Fesko serves as professor of Systematic and Historical Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary and is an ordained OPC minister. Fesko is the author or editor of more than 20 helpful books on Reformed theology, justification, and other biblical topics. In conversation with Jonathan and James, the professor carefully describes Arminian positions that arguably break from Reformed traditions. What is divine impassibility, and what are some reasons theists should hold to it? What are some common objections to divine impassibility, and how do we answer them as classical theists? Does a passible God know more than the God of classical theism? Does the doctrine of divine impassibility diminish the greatness of God? Dr. James Dolezal joins us to discuss these topics. The Classical Theism Podcast aims to defend Catholic Christian ideas in conversation. With the help of various guests, I defend three pillars of the Catholic Christian worldview: (1) the God of classical theism exists, (2) Jesus is our Messiah and Lord, and (3) He founded the Catholic Church. We place a strong emphasis on the first pillar, defending classical theism, drawing upon the work of Thomistic philosopher Dr. Edward Feser and many others. - John DeRosa www.classicaltheism.com/support Support the show: Check out my book One Less God Than You: How to Answer the Slogans, Cliches, and Fallacies that Atheists Use to Challenge Your Faith >> www.classicaltheism.com/newbook Support on Patreon to help keep the podcast going and to allow me to produce even more quality content: www.classicaltheism.com/support

The depravity of the human race has been blatantly displayed in every place throughout all of history. The Apostle Paul was clearly right when he said, “None is righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). This truth is illustrated every day. We see riots in the streets, corruption in government, perversion in marriage, and then, of course, there is plenty of sin remaining in our very own flesh. The Reformer, John Calvin, taught that such things should turn our gaze to God. He wrote, “Indeed, our very poverty better discloses the infinitude of benefits reposing in God. The miserable ruin, into which the rebellion of the first man cast us, especially compels us to look upward.” We have all sorts of trouble down here because we have neglected to look up there. We are made in the image of God. But many have forgotten God, leaving the phrase “image of God” meaningless. Now is a time to know God and worship Him. Calvin also said, “Nearly all the wisdom we possess, that is to say, true and sound wisdom, consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves.” Man no longer knows himself. But there is no way to rediscover the truth about man without first coming to a true knowledge of God.
