It's astonishing how easy it is for any and all democrats to NOT answer a question and pivot to blame somebody or something else.  But when it comes to assassination attempts called "incidents" and blaming a reporter for asking about stoking the tempers of 26 million Americans that believe its ok to hurt Trump, this is more like treason.     The City of Lenexa has a brief moment of clarity in  rejecting Johnson County's plan for a homeless shelter.    Nobody is paying attention to the Detroit Tigers who are making a big push to knock the Royals out of the playoffs.    Running Back Kareem Hunt is back with the Chiefs, we'll tell you why this isn't as great as you may think.    When Utah and Oklahoma State play Saturday, they will feature starting QB's that are a combined five years older than the QB's in the Bears/Colts NFL game last Sunday.    And Mitch Wheeler joins us from www.thebattlewithin.org ... an organization that helps military and first responders with PTSD.  We'd love for you to donate or visit their outstanding whiffle ball event which raises hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"Derrick grew up on a small farm in southeast Kansas and developed a love of the outdoors at an early age tagging along with his dad while quail and deer hunting. He started in sporting clays at age eight, joining his dad in a small league at a local club and began developing his skills as a competitive shooter. The shooting sports earned him a scholarship to Lindenwood University. While there, he was on dual scholarship for baseball and the shotgun team. After a couple years, he transferred to Kansas State University to pursue a degree in Animal Science, graduating in 2008. While at KSU, he won the ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championship, a format that includes international trap, international skeet, American skeet, American trap, and sporting clays. After college, he moved to Ohio where he designed and managed Cardinal Center Sporting Clays. Having successfully getting the facility up and going, he took the chance to move closer to home to manage Powder Creek Shooting Park in Lenexa, Kansas. During his years in the shooting sports, Derrick has competed in many different disciplines, including sporting clays, skeet, trap, international trap, and helice, winning national titles and earning Team USA honors in helice, international trap, and sporting clays. Still to this day, Derrick enjoys shooting with his father and is regularly seen competing with him around the country in sporting clay events. Derrick has eight International medals to date and competed in his second Olympic Games in Paris. In this episode we explore the passion for excellence that transcends all careers. We discuss work/life balance, planning, preparation, execution, the mental game, how to deal with disappointment, how to "finish", and Derrick's plans for 2028. Like so many musical discoveries in my Tasty Brew orbit, Heather Pierson came to my attention from Mike Paget, Director behind the Green Guitar Folk House Music Series in Lenexa, Kansas.  He discovered Heather's talent at her official showcase during a past Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City and brought her back to the Heartland as she was touring through the area.  You'll hear us mention another Heartland music series I've heard stellar reviews about hosted at The Bixler 108 in Unionville, Missouri.  It is so important that stops like the Bixler become available to those trying to lead a lyrical life as they try to connect the dots between major markets like St. Louis and Dallas or west to Denver.  Born to a Scottish émigré mother and Navy veteran machinist father in Joplin, Missouri, Heather started out life in the single-traffic-light town of Galena, Kansas.  Music was constantly spilling out of the speakers of her parents' stereo – a diverse playlist that included such artists as The Allman Brothers, Kansas, Cream, The Beatles, KISS, Cat Stevens, Mario Lanza, Jose Feliciano and Anne Murray.   This diversity served to open Heather's young mind to the rich and varied language of music and to lay the foundation for her future endeavors and experimentations. Heather is now based in New Hampshire's White Mountains…. a singer/songwriter, pianist, song leader, and performer with a passion for cultivating joy, both onstage and off.  With a toe in each of the realms of New Orleans jazz, blues, vocal chants, instrumental piano, and folk, her multi-genre songwriting places her firmly in a category all her own, one honed by decades of diligent practice and curious exploration.  Whether solo, as a duo, with her trio, or in a community sing, Heather's live performances feature her bell-tone vocals, ease at the piano, and are infused with happiness, honest self-reflection, and a genuine desire to connect and share from the heart.  In over twenty years on her own record label, Vessel Recordings, she has released fifteen albums and several singles of original music.  Her forthcoming sixteenth studio album, Back To The Light, is her most vibrant release yet.  It is slated for a September 2024 release, and it was recorded ‘live on the floor' at Acadia Recording Company in Portland, ME with her trio mates Shawn Nadeau on bass (Shawn joins us in the studio for this conversation) and Craig Bryan on drums and percussion.  I just know you're going to dig the seemingly effortless vocal and instrumental offerings from Heather Pierson and Shawn Nadeau during a mid-morning stint on the radio in the Heartland…. Enjoy!

Julie Sayers was elected mayor in November 2023. Prior to that, she served as a Ward 4 council member from 2019–2023. Julie is an owner and principal of a commercial furniture dealership called encompas. She grew up in Topeka, Kansas, and earned a bachelor's degree in interior design from the University of Kansas. She initially practiced interior design at AECOM (formerly Ellerbe Becket), one of Kansas City's firms that specializes in NBA, NFL and collegiate sports facilities. This provided her with a foundation for large-scale project management, multidisciplinary coordination and construction administration. In her role in the design community, Julie has served as president of the Mid-America Chapter of the International Interior Design Association and president of the Center for Architecture & Design Kansas City. Julie serves on the Executive Board of Climate Action KC. This group of policy makers from northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri — along with their partners in the private and nonprofit sectors — are working to enact and foster proactive strategies, systems and structures within the region to reduce greenhouse gases, improve climate resilience and generate corresponding economic, social, health and quality of life benefits. Sayers discusses her background in interior design, including her work on sports stadiums and arenas such as the Superdome and the Barclays Center. She then details her transition to encompas, a contract furniture dealership, and her eventual rise to ownership alongside three other women. The conversation shifts to the impact of COVID-19 on the contract furniture industry, with Sayers highlighting the increased demand for creating inviting and functional office spaces that entice employees back to the workplace. She also touches on the growing importance of ergonomics in both office and home settings. Sayers then shares her journey into politics, starting with her involvement in the campaign for a new airport project and culminating in her election as mayor of Lenexa. She emphasizes the importance of community engagement and her commitment to maintaining stability and delivering excellent services to residents. The interview concludes with a discussion of Lenexa's future development plans, including the completion of major projects like the AdventHealth campus, the Justice Center, and the renovation of the Community Center in Old Town. Sayers also mentions the city's comprehensive plan, which outlines the vision for Lenexa's growth and development over the next 20 years.

It's no secret Republicans tend to blow off elections that don't have a presidential candidate on the ballot.  This explains why so many communities are being overtaken by liberal city councils, school boards and mayors.    This year, it's on all of us to get involved in any way we can.  It starts by learning which candidates to vote for even when the ballot doesn't tell you who is running as a Republican.   In my city of Lenexa, we are losing a terrific mayor and council member to retirement after decades of service that lead to greatness.  Two flaming hot liberals now want to take over.  We chat with Joe Karlin who really needs your vote if you live in Lenexa or know somebody that does.  And we share stories of how your community could be experiencing the exact same things from outside, national, democrat funding.
