Send us a textGUEST: SCOTT ANIOL, Executive VP and Editor-in-Chief G3 MinistriesThe highest calling for Christians is to pursue holiness.Scripture says this definitively, “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:14-16).What hinders the pursuit of holiness, defined as Christ-likeness, is the opposite—worldliness. Worldliness is defined in Scripture as the sinful lusts and pride which the world around us relentlessly promotes:“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world” (1 John 2:16).Here's what WORLDLINESS tells us: >> If it feels good, do it. >> If it looks good, get it. >> If it elevates me, go for it.Not surprisingly, the fallen world ruled by Satan presents endless ways to draw us off the path of holiness and down the dead end of worldliness. And most problematic, there's something inside us that is drawn to what the sinful world offers. It's enjoyable. It causes us to laugh. It makes us feel “in.” It boosts our view of self. And it's really not going to affect me, right?Scott Aniol, Executive Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of G3 Ministries and Professor of Pastoral Theology at Grace Bible Theological Seminary, joins us this weekend on The Christian Worldview to discuss worldliness and how to identify and overcome it.We hope you find the conversation edifying for your Christian life.

Jonathan and James continue their conversation with David Chanski about Albert Martin's profound three-volume work, Pastoral Theology - The Man of God: His Calling and Godly Life. They discuss Volume 2, which focuses on the essential duties of preaching and teaching, including sermon preparation and delivery, and the importance of simplicity in preaching. I don't want to show people how much I know. I just want to help them to understand what the Bible is saying. – David Chanski The art of delivery is also addressed extensively in Martin's work, and he shares how to overcome common pitfalls in pulpit mannerisms that may be a distraction to members of the congregation.  It's like a good friend coming alongside of you, putting his arm around your shoulder, and saying, "Hey, can I make some suggestions on how you present yourself to people in a way that would help that presentation be more effective because it's perhaps less offensive or distracting?"…I like the fact that Pastor Martin risks giving offense here to address some of those issues that often people are thinking them, they're just not saying them. – James Dolezal From the most seasoned preacher to the new pastor just starting out, the issues discussed in this episode and addressed in Volume 2 are invaluable.  Thanks to the generosity of Trinity Book Service, we are pleased to offer a copy of the 3-volume set, Pastoral Theology - The Man of God: His Calling and Godly Life by Albert Martin to our listeners! John speaks with Dr. Nigel Biggar and Dr. Stephen Chavura to explore the complexities of history, challenging one-sided narratives of colonisation and conflict. Their discussion sheds light on the nuanced relationships between settlers and Indigenous peoples, revealing both moments of mutual respect and undeniable tragedy. The discussion emphasises an understanding of history within its true context, free from oversimplifications. They also examine contemporary issues affecting Indigenous Australians, including the widening gaps in remote communities despite progressive policies. Each of them advocate practical solutions that focus on integration, education, and equal justice, rather than divisive narratives perpetuating victimhood. Dr. Nigel Biggar CBE is Emeritus Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology at the University of Oxford, author and theologian. His most recent books are Colonialism: A Moral Reckoning (William Collins, 2023) and What's Wrong with Rights? (Oxford University Press, 2020). Dr. Stephen Chavura teaches European and Australian history at Campion College, Sydney. His most recent (co-authored) books are The Forgotten Menzies: The Mind of Australia's Longest-Serving Prime Minister (Melbourne University Publications, 2021), and Reason, Religion and the Australian Polity: A Secular State? (Routledge, 2019).

These wounds created a deep fear in him, and he always tried to hide from new environments.Through God, Rob found his soul healed. Today, he has the strength to fearlessly travel the world to spread God's healing.Reagan Kramer reflects on how many people can relate to childhood experiences that impact their soul and how they may not realize it.Rob explains that the soul is synonymous with the Old Testament concept of the heart. It is the center of human operations. Many people do not give enough importance to the idea of the soul, and Reagan thinks it is used too flippantly in the modern day.[6:35] Starting the Soul Care MovementRob Reimer started the soul care movement after planting a church in Boston. He experienced a marriage crisis that led him to realize the need for personal change rather than focusing on the other person's issues. But Rob was able to overcome this crisis through his faith. He received principles to live by from God, and applied them to his life.Today, he feels confident enough to pass on these principles to help others, leading to the development of his book and ministry.[8:30] Narcissism and Self-CenterednessEveryone has a bias towards self. That self-centeredness is a result of sin. But focusing on oneself leads to misery, while focusing on Jesus and others brings peace.Rob describes a powerful idea: the biblical concept of dying to self as essential for experiencing abundant life in Christ.Dying to self involves overcoming self-centeredness, self-protection, and self-reliance. Reagan Kramer herself has found that this concept helped her in her spiritual journey.Without dying to self, Christ cannot be formed in a person, and they remain bound by their sinful nature.[13:05] Repentance, Brokenness, and Soul CareDr. Rob explains the first step, identity, and its importance in Christian life. True identity is found in Christ, who makes us part of His family. The second step, repentance, heals the soul and places us in God's presence.Repentance is part of the good news of Jesus and essential for living in His light. Rob points out the Western value of tolerance with the biblical concept of sin and repentance.People are more open to discussing their brokenness and dysfunction than their sinfulness.Reagan Kramer agrees, noting that many people are desperate for healing and open to solutions, even if they don't understand the theological aspects.[26:11] Breaking Family Sin PatternsThere exist patterns of sin in families that we must break. This unaddressed sin can have a devastating impact on future generations.Rob uses the example of Abraham's family sin pattern of favoritism and how it continued through his descendants.Breaking free from sinful patterns and living a holy life is a noble and honorable goal that emphasizes soul care.Furthermore, addressing these family sin patterns requires profound trust and honesty. The healing process will come by being open to each other.[32:01] Forgiveness and Overcoming FearForgiveness is difficult because we are afraid. Fear prevents us from accessing forgiveness. However, Rob emphasizes the importance of forgiving those who sin against us to allow God's healing and peace to flow in our lives.Rob shares his personal experience of forgiving a man who spread lies about him, demonstrating the power of obedience to Jesus' commands.Forgiveness and overcoming fear are essential for living a life free from anxiety and the bondage of sin.[49:42] Healing Wounds and DeliveranceMoving forward in freedom is easier if we begin by healing wounds from the past. Unresolved anger and pain create barriers to God's healing and must be addressed.God's deliverance lets us cast out demonic spirits that cause torment and bondage in our souls. These wounds or indwelling demons might even be the result of generational curses that went unresolved.Reagan Kramer shares her personal experience of hearing demonic manifestations and the importance of the Church in setting people free.About Rob ReimerDr. Rob Reimer is the founder and president of Renewal International, a ministry dedicated to equipping believers, pastors, and leaders worldwide to experience spiritual renewal and live in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. As a sought-after speaker and teacher, Dr. Reimer has ministered on six continents, sharing transformative biblical principles that empower individuals to overcome fear, heal past wounds, and embrace their true identity in Christ. The incarnation is the central event of our faith, making possible the consummation of the New Covenant in the saving death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is utterly unique, and, as made clear in this week's first piece, utterly incongruous with anything else in history, or in our experience. It is, then, to be an object of our contemplation and a stimulus to our worship of the Triune God: Father, Spirit, and incarnate Son.   Featured Content: – 'An Incongruous Incarnation', Peter Sanlon, Banner of Truth Magazine, Issue 675 (December 2019). – Excerpt from Sinclair B. Ferguson and Derek Thomas, 'Icthus: Jesus Christ, God's Son, the Saviour', (Edinburgh: Banner of Truth, 2015).     About the Contributors: Peter Sanlon has served as a minister in Tunbridge Wells since 2013.  In previous years he has taught at Union School of Theology and Oak Hill Theological College. Today he trains presbyterian ministers via Westminster Seminary. His published books include 'Simply God' (IVP) and 'Augustine's Theology of Preaching' (Fortress). Sinclair Ferguson has authored several books published by the Trust, of which he is a trustee, and a former editor. He retains his position as Professor of Systematic Theology at Redeemer Seminary, Dallas, Texas, and serves as a Teaching Fellow with Ligonier Ministries. His biography of Peterson, called A Burning in My Bones, was released in 2021. He has other books to his credit, as well, and it is actually one of those other books we'll talk about today. His book, Holy Curiosity, looks a nine questions Jesus asked people he met on the journey. Collier's study of those questions unleashes in me a curiosity about questions in general and how we might use them in the work of becoming holy. In this conversation, we'll talk about questions and imagination and Eugene Peterson and curiosity and holiness. Enjoy.
